Is it me, or has LJ been kinda dead lately? Is everyone off to tumblr? It's kinda sad, because even though I suppose I can always get my own tumblr, I loved the conversations that used to happen and tumblr isn't much on conversations - pretty caps and gifs, sure, meta, not so much. Boooo!

Surprisingly, the second ep of Big continued to be charming. And I definitely ship Kyung Joon in Young Jae's body with Lee Min Jung. I mean:

Also, this from preview:

Not related to either of the above, but The Proclaimers' "Im gonna be (500 miles)" always cheers me up:

For some reason I've become obsessed by this 1960s hit by Zager & Evans, In the Year 2525.

I have no idea why but I've just listened to it too many times in a row.

Why am I addicted? No idea.

OMG.

I just found that my most favorite song in the whole world is on youtube. I've heard it since I was little.

Here is Une vie d'Amour, performed by Charles Aznavour & Mireille Mathieu. This is about the most perfect performance of it ever, too.

I also found a Russian version on youtube )

I haven't made up my mind yet whether I like it or not *thinking* (I actually really like the sound, but am not sure about the band's performing affectations. Lose the nails, kthnksbye though it's interesting at any rate) but here is some stuff by Buck-Tick, the band that the mangaka of Sensual Phrase admitted she based the band in the manga (Lucifer) on.

She seems to have a torch 12 feet high for the lead singer if her little sidebars were any indication. I wonder if he has an evil half-brother and a really busty girlfriend like Sakuya the hero of SP.

PV and other ones here )

OMG.

I have finally discovered a Japanese band I actually might like. Scratch that. I am a fangirl goner now probably, knowing my enthusiasm bug.

Glay.

The mangaka of Sensual Phrase seemed to be a huge fan, so I was curious and went to youtube and searched for them and OMG. You know, I am going to go through her side notes now and look at which bands she mentioned and check them out.

I actually like. I like the music (NOT the case with JE), and most importantly, unlike the JE set up, it does not give me the creeps. Here is a wiki article on them.

Since this is a normal band, it's a normal 'they formed the band themselves' thing. And they seem to have lives outside of the 'job' that aren't psychotically controlled (also like a normal band. Though I wonder if Japanese groupies are different from American ones. Probably not :P). None of them got started with a prepackaged band when really creepily young and asked to do some totally age inappropriate stuff on stage (I have HUGE issues with JE. I don't care if someone wants to act like a fake slut in a concert at 16, but it has to be their own choice and initiative).

An none of them are borderline jailbait. They are all comfortably older than me.

But the best part? And the only really important one? I really like the music. MMM. I am going to go CD hunting this lunch break and then look for DVDs on line.

Oh God. Now I like Japanese music. See my weirdness go further out of control.

This post is not about anything I posted about before. There are no jdramas, Bollywood, or Victorian lit anywhere.

But today, searching youtube, I discovered that it has a number of songs of my favorite singer, Vladimir Vysotsky (he is a very famous Russian bard).

I have no idea how he comes across to someone who doesn't understand Russian. He is not gorgeous. He has a rough, smoker's voice. What really makes his songs for me, and makes him my favorite singer are the lyrics (which are amazing and have been published separately as poems actually, justifiably so, IMO). Being a bard, he wrote all his own songs. Oh, and there is the almost terrifying level of conviction he sings them with.

But anyway, just for me, if for no one else.

Rewatched two more Veronica Mars eps, Girl Next Door and Like a Virgin. IMo, they are 'lesser' VM eps, but nontheless, I like both of them.

In Girl Next Door, while the B-plot of Logan and Weevil is more interesting, I am also in the minority who likes the A-plot. I think what we are confronted with (again) in this ep, and what Veronica needs to learn and is learning throughout the seasons, is that first initial instinctual impressions don't always work. Andre, it turns out, is a wonderful boyfriend, willing to raise another man's baby, accepting of Sara's sudden flights as just 'her thing' and trying to do the right thing in letting her parents know she is pregnant. He is cranky with Veronica, but evaluated in light of what we find out, it makes sense: this random neighbor girl is butting into his private life. And we also learn that Veronica (understandably) would be almost always be on the women's side of any argument (she suspects the bf of malarkey but not the girl of flakiness). And of course, we also learn that sometimes V bites off more than she can chew.

Girl Next Door. Of Weevil and Logan )

Like a Virgin is a sweet fun ep. This is where we first meet Mac (yay! Blue hair! Moxie!) and Meg (yes, cartoon birds did braid your hair. I miss you. *sniff*). And yet another person (in this case Meg) tells V that revenge isn't the way to go. It's something V is learning, however slowly. And then there is the not-sweet-fun at all scene with Abel, and V thinks she is not Keith's daughter (what an interesting callback to the previous ep and her comment about how no man would want to raise another guy's child) and she cries in the car and I want to cry with her.

In other news, I've been listening to everyone's music recs and they are excellent. I must admit, I've fallen in love with The Perishers. I dled "Sway" because of that gorgeous VM scene and after that I decided to look for more of their stuff and whoa...they are amazing. Also, oddly enough, if Sarah McLaughlin songs always seem to be applicable to Buffy for me, and Dido to Roswell, I think a lot of The Perishers songs are applicable to VM.

Also, I finally read the lyrics to Sway and I Can Hear the Bells and how freaking appropriate.
