After five years away, I am back thanks to tumblrpocalypse :)

(Btw apologies for anyone reading the super old entries - due to being backed from LJ due to past LJpocalypse each entry appears trice.)

Guess who got a severe allergic reaction to the antibiotic I was given for my strep and ended up in the emergency room? This gets better and better!

They pumped me full of counteracting drugs, did a bunch of other things and finally released me. Apparently, after years of having no problems with it, I have developed an allergy to penicillin derivatives - take that, Dr. Jin!!! (actually, if I am lucky, I am allergic only to this particular derivative - I guess I'll find out. In any event, there are plenty of antibiotics not derived from penicillin).

Baby Mousie had strep too but she is not allergic and her medicines are working super well, so she is back to normal, asleep at home with Mr Mousie watching her while I gallivant to such exciting places as the ER ;)

Grrrr, why can't I be allergic to star fruit or biltong or Yerba matte - all things you rarely encounter and of no utility.

I am going to be away for a long weekend, visiting family (yay!) and am not bringing my laptop with me so as to leave more room for bonding, thus posting status will be iffy.

To compensate, I leave you with this:

Who doesn't want a handsome period general to carry us off? Well, perhaps not to a grim and blood-soaked past but to a nice hotel, sure.

I apologize for the sporadic nature of my posts, but Mr. Mousie is very busy for a couple of weeks, so I am a de facto single parent through next week, which leaves one with a bit less time to blog. Anyway...

1. I am ridiculously nostalgic and feel like a Goong rewatch. It's my favorite candy-colored, emotionally-real-despite-manga-setup delight. Plus, I adore both Yoon Eun Hye and Joo Ji Hoon and their chemistry is insane. Who's with me? :)

2. I tried Dream High 2 and I didn't loathe it or anything, but it didn't click. There are too many characters, none of whom I can distinguish from one another and none of them interesting enough to motivate me to try. It feels like chewing plastic. The first DH, despite its flaws, was genuinely fun. Part of DH2's misfortune is that I keep comparing it to scruffy, heartfelt, real Shut Up, but leaving that aside, it's genuinely uninspiring on its own merits.

3. In news of other dramas that bored me - I gave Fermentation Family a chance, I really did. I know it's from the same people who made Mawang and Resurrection, but if I didn't know it, I would have never believed it. I believe FF may be used as a sleep inducer in insomniacs.

4. I am slowly watching and liking period cdrama Pretty Maid. Though unless I am missing something (and I hope I am), isn't the heroine and her OTP half-siblings? Eeeek.

5. I am madly excited to check out Hanbando/Korean Peninsula/Peninsula/18 million other titles. No softsubs yet, but it's streaming on dramafever.

6. This scene is pretty much the most awesome thing ever:

The one where he gets poisoned defending her, she immobilizes him so he won't be able to protest when she sucks out the poison, then she collapses but he manages to get her to the healing place in time )

I am beginning to recover from an awful awful stomach bug I picked up somewhere. Eating is still not an activity I want to engage in, but tea tastes nice. Mr. Mousie has been an angel - taking care of Baby Mousie, making me toast (which I can't eat yet. Advice - worst way to lose a few pounds, ever, is to get a stomach bug) and tea.

Luckily for my "I have barely gotten out of bed all day" self, I have Shut Up: Flower Boy Band waiting to entertain me. All about high school wannabe rockers, this is one drama that is ridiculously entertaining, has attitude, and makes me think of a Boy Love manga, only minus the BL as it is a Korean drama (there is a heroine in this, and she's OK, but honestly, they might as well saved themselves the trouble). Have a MV:

Lee Min Ki cameos in this and, I swear, the man has a portrait in the attic somewhere. He got me to thinking who else I'd cast in my own rocker drama. I came up with:

and

Too bad No Win Woo is prepping for Full House 2 instead (have you seen that horrifying hair he's sporting for it?) and Kim Jae Wook is doing his military service.

Also, What's Up has almost finished its run and I can't wait to binge (I put it aside ages ago, because I thought it would be better watched in one go). If Shut Up is Dream High's older brother, who raided their Mom's make-up cabinet to sneak out to raves, What's Up is if Dream High and Glee had a kid, and then that kid cut off all his hair and went in for breaking and entering.

1. Argh!!!! My big order from Amazon, full of Brit chick lit I was craving, was sent to the wrong address (my fault) and now I have to reorder and argghghghghghghghhgghhgh I want it now! I was never good at patience. I reordered from Alibris and now it will get here by Dec 14 but I want those books now! Especially Tash/Hugo ones. Boooo.

2. I went to see Immortals today and loved it. I can see why it had lousy reviews - it's a very idiosyncratic movie and the story is barebones, but I thought it was amazing - visually like nothing I've ever seen - like feverish paintings come to life - like those vivid nightmarish dreams you have that you half-remember when you wake up. Plus, huge bonus to anything that mentions Titanomachia. And somehow the vibe did remind me of the myths, or at least of the way they made me feel when I first discovered them when I was eight. Plus, I've never seen Henry Cavill in anything but that man is ridiculously gorgeous and masculine at the same time. Mmmmm.

3. I am behind on my dramas. I am just not in the mood somehow. No idea why. But have an Ouran cap dump.

From the last half and rather Haruhi/Tamaki-centric )

4. In news of American TV shows (where I am also behind), I've pretty much given up pretending I care for anything but Bridget/Andrew in Ringer. But they are so adorable together! Sure, there is the whole 'she is impersonating her sociopath twin sister who is his wife' complication, but whatever :)

5. To console self for book-shipping fiasco mentioned in (1), I went on kindle and got a Jilly Cooper book to fill my trashy British books quota. I only had two criteria: (1) it had to be on kindle and (2) not involve horses as K&T got me all horsed-out. So I got Rivals, which is set in a fictional English county and revolves around a fight for a television station license (not sure how it works in the UK but I don't particularly mind). The station is run by a horrible backstabbing guy named Tony something, and he finally pisses off enough people that they take him on and try to take the license away from him. It's full of amoral but hilarious people who gladly sleep around and backstab and is v.v.v.v. entertaining. I pretty much adore every character (as long as I don't ever have to meet them) but my favorites, in no particular order are:

* Taggy - the only really sane person in this whole thing (at least so far, I am a quarter in). She's 19, the daughter of a famous television interviewer (who is the one spearheading the takeover). She's dyslexic, has plans for a career as a chef, and as a result of growing up with brilliant but volatile father and self-absorbed, domestically-useless mother, she's pretty much the caretaker. I think she should get whatever she wants, which seems to be a chef career.

* Declan - Taggy's Dad. He's pretty awesome but his taste in women - yikes. Maud, his wife, is pretty much the most spoiled and useless thing ever, even if hilariously entertaining as a character.

* Rupert Campbell-Black - He's in his late 30s (I think), is a cabinet minister and is an unrepentant playboy. He gets involved in the takeover with Declan. I really shouldn't like him because he's got the morals of a cat and pretty much does anything in skirts, but in addition to being hot, he is ridiculously hilarious and entertaining. I mean, I cannot not love him after exchanges like this (Valerie is the resident social climber):

'Sharon's only allowed to watch [TV] occasionally at weekends,' said Valerie smugly. 'When I was young, my sister and I made our own amusements.'
'So did I,' agreed Rupert, 'until Nanny told me it would make me go blind.'

Ahahahahaahaaa.

Because I am a bad person, I peeked at the end and apparently Rupert and Taggy become a couple? (!!!!!!) I am madly curious as to how that would happen as where I am at, she cannot stand the sight of him and he's chasing everything that moves (though thinks she's pretty). Hmmmm. Ever since I read These Old Shades as a teenager, I've been a sucker for 'super-slutty older man falls madly for younger woman who he doesn't think he can have' trope so...anticipating this.

6. From now through New Year's, posting is probably spotty because of a lot of family events and travel. Sorry :)

I am not really in a drama mood lately. All I want to do is:

1. Drink tea
2. Reread my Kilgannon books (seriously, I am obsessed. I want to be Mary when I grow up, only I think she's younger than me and also being an 18th-century woman having to guard three kids while your husband is in the Tower on charges of treason can't be fun). I found out the author was going to write three books but she never did, whether because she lost interest or the publisher did. Booo! I mean, the second book doesn't end on a cliffhanger like the first one, so it's fine, but I want more of Mary/Alex (also, I didn't get the books because of it because there was no hint it's in there, but scar-kissing, mmmmm).
3. Watch American shows.

And speaking of the last, here is my roster:

* Boardwalk Empire - Mr. Mousie and I watch it together and both adore it. It's such a smart, engrossing drama, even if I don't like any of the characters. Plus, period drama!
* Burn Notice - another my and Mr. Mousie's show.
*Homeland - Damian Lewis! Plus Morena Baccarin and Claire Danes. Though I do not approve if he turns out to be a terrorist. I cannot have a crush on a terrorist, even a fictional one. Hmmm, maybe I can get Mr. Mousie to watch this one with me.
Once Upon a Time - I am waiting for this one rabidly.
* Pan Am - looks cute, fluffy, and period
* Ringer - SMG as twins! I like so far, even if I keep wondering why Buffy just doesn't kill all the evildoers with her pinkie.
