OMG.
I have finally discovered a Japanese band I actually might like. Scratch that. I am a fangirl goner now probably, knowing my enthusiasm bug.
Glay.

The mangaka of Sensual Phrase seemed to be a huge fan, so I was curious and went to youtube and searched for them and OMG. You know, I am going to go through her side notes now and look at which bands she mentioned and check them out.
I actually like. I like the music (NOT the case with JE), and most importantly, unlike the JE set up, it does not give me the creeps. Here is a wiki article on them.
Since this is a normal band, it's a normal 'they formed the band themselves' thing. And they seem to have lives outside of the 'job' that aren't psychotically controlled (also like a normal band. Though I wonder if Japanese groupies are different from American ones. Probably not :P). None of them got started with a prepackaged band when really creepily young and asked to do some totally age inappropriate stuff on stage (I have HUGE issues with JE. I don't care if someone wants to act like a fake slut in a concert at 16, but it has to be their own choice and initiative).
An none of them are borderline jailbait. They are all comfortably older than me.
But the best part? And the only really important one? I really like the music. MMM. I am going to go CD hunting this lunch break and then look for DVDs on line.
Oh God. Now I like Japanese music. See my weirdness go further out of control.

Date: 2007-04-11 02:15 pm (UTC)Japanese music is an awesome thing to get into. I think sometimes their music is much better then American, because they seem to appreciate a wider range of music. I also love the lyrics. If you ever check them out translated. They are so beautiful, almost poetry. (well not all of the songs are, but alot) Even JE boy's songs.

Date: 2007-04-12 02:42 am (UTC)And I think that's the important thing. If you like the music, then totally go for it. I'd probably overlook my issues (and even the sequins) if I liked the music.

Date: 2007-04-11 02:29 pm (UTC)Also - in "everything comes back to my main objects of fangirlism" news - Jiro Wang actually got his English name from a bandmember of Glay (the bassist, I think). Everything clicked because just last night I was watching some random Fahrenheit-related youtube vids and in one of those they talked about Jiro's past and showed pictures of him young (ROFLMAO!) and the text "GLAY" appeared on the screen at this one point (because Calvin had to make the point that if you take the L out, it spells GAY :P).
So basically, if Jiro (um, the Taiwanese one!) approves, I am so there. Also gonna consult my jrock-loving friend regarding this band. :D!

Date: 2007-04-11 04:44 pm (UTC)i SOOOOOO agree with you there. he owns me, hands down. i think he's about the only taiwanese singer i listen to that i believe with all my heart CAN sing. hearing him sing acapella blows my mind. plus he writes and produces his own stuff, and for other taiwanese singers/bands. really, how much more awesome can he get

Date: 2007-04-12 02:46 am (UTC)Arashi sounds a little too happy for me, does it make sense? :)

Date: 2007-04-11 05:07 pm (UTC)Wow to Glay! I LOVE them! Its totally catchy but also the fact that they play their own instruments is great!
I'm slowly joining you in the Jmusic obsession. Not good!!

Re: Arashi. I guess I like angst in my music as much as in my dramas. They are a bit happy-dorky for me, if it makes sense.

Date: 2007-04-12 08:05 pm (UTC)I too love the angst too though. I prefer songs that make you go 'wow' and tear up at the lyrics.

Date: 2007-04-11 07:03 pm (UTC)Anyways, back to legitimate music, I'd heard of Glay before, and I watched your videos. It definitely seems like something I could get into... I must do a bit more research on them.
