http://charmian.dreamwidth.org/96040.htmlArgh!
That is what I get for signing up for a service which hosts a number of prominent Russian political bloggers. Ugh!
(It's not that it's owned by a Russian company because whoever owned it, this would happen and be successful as long as it has Russian political bloggers).
Look, I am originally from Russia so I am not Russia-hating or anything.
But.
But I sure as fuck wish I knew this would be an issue and I would have picked a differing blogging/posting platform. Only, back in 2005 and for many years after it wasn't, so I didn't. Ugh. Wish I had foresight on this because now all my posts are on LJ (great, I will need to back them all up again once LJ is finally up, fun) and most of my flisties are LJ-only and some fun anons hang out there on my LJ etc.
Look, post about politics or don't, I don't care. They have every right to. But what I want is a blogging platform that works reliably and lets me access it as needed. That's all. And LJ does not have that lately at all. I don't care if it's for a bad reason such as lack of maintenance or good reason because they host political protest. Frankly, I don't give a fuck either way. I just want it to work as it is supposed to and it can't. I don't want to pay for glitchy, unreliable service. Clearly, my money on a permanent account was wasted.
Obviously, I am going to be using DW from now on (and cross-posting in hopes of LJ working that day, in case someone can only comment there - but with notes everywhere I use DW so hopefully they'll decide to come over). Also, is there a good blogging platform anyone recommends, e.g. blogher or wordpress?
Oh, and no, I don't care that mass exodus from LJ may be what the hackers want so it'd shut down the political bloggers. Frankly, I have a right to expect and receive reliable service and to continue to be devoted to unusable, flaky one for the sake some political point that does not concern me is really nuts.
