Clearly, yesterday was a day for me to rewatch bits of some of my favorite family dramas. Because I totally rewatched bits of Gloria, the only 50-ep drama I watched with no skipping and almost no fast-forwarding (for my money, the first 35 or so eps are the best but it's good overall).

I was (and still am) madly in love with the main OTP of Gloria, Kang Suk/Jin Jin. The romance started out a little slowly but oh, boy, did it make up for it. From a logical standpoint, it made no sense that they could live happily ever after - his half-brother killed her parents and gave her sister brain damage, and once she found out, she went on a revenge spree (in which he helped!) that destroyed his father's company and ended up in half-brother killing himself. But by the ending, I was so invested in them, I didn't care if they got together due to fairy dust...

Seriously, so perfect. I mean, how could I not love a drama which has the following scene: She is in the middle of ruining his evil family (with his help. Seriously, there is love and there is this) and, of course, they broke up, but he stops by her house and begs if she can playact as his lover for an evening and they go out, and he is so desperate, but not touching her at all, and she kisses him, crying, saying she wants to forget everything tonight but her playacting role. And he kisses her back and just guuuuuuuh.

My current obsession with The Princess' Man sent me on a major Park Shi Hoo craving, preferably in something where the odds of a happy ending are not 0.02%.

And then I remembered I had all of Family Honor already in my greedy hot hands. And that FH was written by the same writer who wrote Gloria (one of my all-time favorite dramas) and Pick the Stars (a drama that I adored to a ridiculous degree). And I was set.

Two episodes in and I am so glad I decided to do this (though my eyeballs might not thank me as I foresee another marathon) - I am obsessed. Just as in Gloria and PtS, Family Honor features strong women and complicated men, a fascinating milleu, and secondary and even tertiary characters I find fascinating. Our heroine is a widow in a large, traditional, and pretty dysfunctional family. Our hero, played by Park Shi Hoo, is a nuveau riche upstart with a chip on his shoulder who cannot help but be fascinated by her. This is so good!

Have a MV:

I tried it ages ago but it was with horrific subs and awful vids so I couldn't stick it. But now I have great subs and crystal-clear vids and yeah...sleep is a distant prospect now. Also, pretty much airing drama except for The Princess' Man is likely on hold.

I AM OBSESSED.

Side note - what is it about Park Shi Hoo? He's nothing to look at in stills but the second he is on screen, my heart leaves my body and pretty much into his character's vicinity in a stage of slavish adoration. I am so glad TPM is a hit (its ratings keep rising - it was almost 17% for the latest ep) as this means more PSH on my screen. I have yet to see him in a role I didn't like even when the drama itself does not work for me (Iljimae, I am looking at you).

My Gloria love cemented what I was earlier suspecting with dramas like Giant and Baker King - I really dig long kdramas and go for family ones in a big way.

So my next binge is likely to be Golden Bride - I saw and liked the first ep ages ago but was scared by the length and put it away. Well, the length doesn't bother me any more, so here we come.

I couldn't find any main otp mvs, so have a secondary otp one:

I also want to continue with Family Honor, where I was also scared off by the length before - but seeing how I loved the writer's Gloria and Pick the Stars, that it stars darling scene-stealer Park Shi Hoo, and that it's actually shorter than Gloria, here I come! I hear dramafever has it (dls don't have great visual quality because they are tv rips so I'd rather stream).

"You said you wanted to take revenge. No, of course you must do that...So, use me. The younger brother of the person who caused your parents to die. Me. Because I love you. Because I want to do everything I can for you, use me."

Oh, Kang Suk. Things kdramas taught me: if a man asks you to use him to complete your revenge on his family, he's a keeper.

Oooooooh. Finally! YESSSSSS! Jin Jin learns the truth about Creepy and her family tragedy. I feel bad for darling Kang Suk, who is going to get his heart totally mangled, but OTOH, I cannt wait for her to go freaking terminator on Creepy's ass and take him apart piece by piece.

It's on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooooooooooooo!!!! My cash is on Jin Jin!

(You know, I love how in Gloria events logically follow - Creepy is a horrible person so finally things catch up with him - you can get away with something once or twice but if you keep screwing people over, you are going to mess with the wrong person eventually. None of this would have happened if Creepy wasn't feeling piqued because Yoon Seo ran off and thus scotched Kang Suk and Jin Jin getting married out of pure spite. Because that let to JJoo talking to Grandma and Grandma planning revenge, which lead to Creepy's panic and attempt to kill JJoo, which is when backstory came out and now he is doing DOWN so hard!)

The person who is going to bring down the evil Lee family and feed Creepy to the worms! The revenge mastermind spinning an elaborate web!

Yes, it's a little old lady in traditional garb. And she is going to have Creepy's guts to put on her toast and Creepy's blood to stir in her tea! I love you, Gloria.

Also, Kang Suk and Dong Ah having been drinking together to drown their shippy sorrows, but I have an even better, more permanent solution for them. It would probably go something like this:

Dong Ah: There is no way Yoon Seo and I can be together, ever.
Kang Suk: And Jin Jin left me due to the crap with her sister and my psycho brother. What to do?
Kang Suk and Dong Ah (together): Let's hook up!
Dong Ah: You'll fit right in with my penchant for traumatized illegitimate rich kids from psycho families.
Kang Suk: And I clearly go for violent, mouthy slum dwellers, big time.
Dong Ah: and at least I won't have to crane my neck that far down to make out with you. I could so save on chiropractor bills!
Kang Suk: And this is the perfect "fuck you" to my family! They are going to weep tears of blood they busted up me and Jin Jin.
*commence make-out*

Well, a fangirl can dream :)
