Rewatched two more Veronica Mars eps, Girl Next Door and Like a Virgin. IMo, they are 'lesser' VM eps, but nontheless, I like both of them.
In Girl Next Door, while the B-plot of Logan and Weevil is more interesting, I am also in the minority who likes the A-plot. I think what we are confronted with (again) in this ep, and what Veronica needs to learn and is learning throughout the seasons, is that first initial instinctual impressions don't always work. Andre, it turns out, is a wonderful boyfriend, willing to raise another man's baby, accepting of Sara's sudden flights as just 'her thing' and trying to do the right thing in letting her parents know she is pregnant. He is cranky with Veronica, but evaluated in light of what we find out, it makes sense: this random neighbor girl is butting into his private life. And we also learn that Veronica (understandably) would be almost always be on the women's side of any argument (she suspects the bf of malarkey but not the girl of flakiness). And of course, we also learn that sometimes V bites off more than she can chew.
But yes, I prefer the B-plot. Weevil and Logan. Detention. Genius. I am not much of a slasher, and I am too V/L to slash Logan, but oh boy...I am almost there. And I can see where the slashers would get their stuff. They play off each other brilliantly and have chemistry and ultimately, underneath their very different backgrounds, they are both snarky, in your face leader-of-the-pack types, so...heeeeee. Not to mention the innuendo is through the roof. "Do you like playing with yourself?" I nearly choked when I got to that part (love the stare Logan gives Weevil). Or "Never underestimate the size of my cojones." Heeeee.
But my fave quote of the ep goes to Logan, when Vice Principal Clemons approaches Logan with "May I have a word?" Logan replies "Anthropomorphic. It's all yours, big guy" and if the end of RotK didn't make me fall for Logan already, this would definitely finish the trick. He is woobie AND snarky. It's like a perfect package. My favorite scene in the ep though, is Logan getting Weevil unexpelled. He didn't have to do it, but it speaks to some sense of underlying fairness that Logan, underneath all the mess and screwed-upedness, possesses. And how logan to turn it all into "actually, I want the credit for the prank, instead of Weevil." And I am all the more impressed by it, because potentially, if Aaron was so inclined or in a bad mood, or what have you, it could (and maybe did, we don't know) cost him big time. His crack to Clemmons about having his (Logan's) people talk to Aaron's people, takes a whole different, bitter and ironic tone, in light of RotK. Actually, I have to admit that this time, just like the first time I saw it all, RotK freaked me out so much that I am always paranoid whenever Logan does something that it might get him in trouble with Aaron.
And I found it interesting that Weevil lied to Logan re: Lilly (because he owes him) and that Logan appeared to accept it (why? Not wanting to deal with the issue is probably the only reason, as Logan doesn't strike me as super gullible).
Like a Virgin is a sweet fun ep. This is where we first meet Mac (yay! Blue hair! Moxie!) and Meg (yes, cartoon birds did braid your hair. I miss you. *sniff*). And yet another person (in this case Meg) tells V that revenge isn't the way to go. It's something V is learning, however slowly. And then there is the not-sweet-fun at all scene with Abel, and V thinks she is not Keith's daughter (what an interesting callback to the previous ep and her comment about how no man would want to raise another guy's child) and she cries in the car and I want to cry with her.
In other news, I've been listening to everyone's music recs and they are excellent. I must admit, I've fallen in love with The Perishers. I dled "Sway" because of that gorgeous VM scene and after that I decided to look for more of their stuff and whoa...they are amazing. Also, oddly enough, if Sarah McLaughlin songs always seem to be applicable to Buffy for me, and Dido to Roswell, I think a lot of The Perishers songs are applicable to VM.
Also, I finally read the lyrics to Sway and I Can Hear the Bells and how freaking appropriate.
I talk to you as to a friend
I hope that’s what you’ve
come to be
It feels as though we’ve
made amends
Like we found a way
eventually
It was you who picked
the pieces up
When I was a broken soul
And then glued me
back together
Returned to me what
others stole
I don’t wanna hurt you
I don’t wanna make you sway
Like I know I’ve done before
I will not do it anymore
I’ve always been a dreamer
I've had my head among
the clouds
Now that I’m coming down
Won’t you be my solid ground?
I look at you and see a friend
I hope that’s what you wanna be
Are we back now where
it all began?
Have you finally forgiven me?
You gathered my dreams in
When they all blew away
And then tricked them
back into me
You saved me I was
almost dead.
I hear the bells
Down in the canyon, it's
Snow in New York
Some blue December, I'm
Gone to the moon
Without you, girl, and I'm
Calling to you
Throughout the world and well I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and
I hear the bells
They are like emeralds, and
Glints in the night
Commas and ampersands
Your moonlit face
So inaccessible
Your inner mind
So inexpressible
I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and
I'm seeking girls
In sales and marketing
Let's go make out
Up in the balcony
Your business dress
So businesslike and I'm
Tossing the blouse
Over a chairback and
(2x)
I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and
You snooze, you lose
Well I have snost and lost
I'm pushing through
I'll disregard the cost
I hear the bells
So fascinating and
I'll slug it out
I'm sick of waiting
(3x)
I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and I can
Hear the bells are
Ringing joyful and triumphant and
