I've enjoyed the second episode of Beauty and the Beast a lot. Of course, I am in it for the shipping and the Government conspiracy, so the 'case of the week' procedural stuff is for playing in the background while I am doing something else, but we can't have everything.

Because we have conversations like this:

Me (out of the blue): Who would win in a fight, the main character from Parade's End or Green Arrow from Arrow?
Mr. Mousie (without missing a beat): The main character from Parade's End. He has a gun. He's also probably killed people. It's a revolver, not an automatic but it still has better range than a bow.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa I love him. Only he would treat a bizarre question pitting a CW superhero against a protagonist of a literary adaptation as utterly normal. And have the literary adaptation person win ;)

Clearly, I am on a Western TV kick. Luckily, now that I am only following 4 kdramas, I have room.

Next on my list - the 5 ep British series Parade's End. I didn't even know it existed (unlike every other fangirl in existence, while I enjoyed Benedict Cummerbatch in Sherlock, I don't follow his stuff in any fashion) and stumbled across it while looking for something else.

And then I kinda went insane. Because! This is an adaptation of a series of novels by Ford Madox Ford, whom I've read and liked (though not this series but one about Katherine Parr) and who, I believe, was a friend of Sigfried Sassoon (who I used to be a bit obsessed about). And it's set around WWI, a time period I find utterly fascinating - I will pretty much watch/read almost anything set in that time period (probably the hangover from the fact that Erik Maria Remarque's Three Comrades is my favorite novel ever - it's not set during WWI but it does follow a group of WWI veterans). And there is a love story which sounds all sorts of messed up because he's a married Tory and she is a suffragette. And and and and it was adopted by Tom Stoppard.

Basically, I need this in my life ASAP!

Also, on a random note - I don't find BC good-looking (he has a rather odd face, actually, IMO) but he looks quintessentially upper-class British to me, so it looks like perfect casting.

Have a shippy MV:

And this vid is from near the end, I believe. Caution, they show things on British TV we only get on HBO etc here in the USA :P )

I watched the pilot of Kristin Kreuk's new supernatural romance Beauty and the Beast and I am totally in love! I am sure if I were rational, I could nitpick it to death, but I don't care - the pilot pretty much hit every shippy kink of mine out of the gate. That happens with kdramas all the time, but incredibly rarely with American shows.

Katherine is a homicide detective who, years ago, was saved from the men who killed her mother, by a mysterious 'beast'. Nine years later, she meets him again...

I mean, as the OTP it's giving me the trope of 'guy who is sort of a bodyguard for the woman and would lay down his life for her, but has major unworthiness issues.' Mmmmmmmm nomnomnom. And the heroine even talks about them saving each other!

Some caps that show why I am obsessed )

This was ridiculously cheesy and ridiculously entertaining all at once. The show's understanding of human biology (as regards both to what Oliver's injuries would do to him and what arrows do to people) is almost as bad as its understanding of how the law works (every scene involving Laurel the Lawyer doing things the show believes lawyers do but which was 100% incorrect, made me roll my eyes so hard they nearly fell out of my sockets. Just ask me how wrong it all was, just ask).

Plus, I think the show is trying to go for epic angsty romance with Laurel and Oliver and I am just not feeling it. Mainly because I find Laurel utterly annoying - I am sure it's mainly transference from the fact that she is the one who is the vehicle for the show's mangling of the US legal system and raising my rage points due to it (and in small part because she's pretty much 'generic CW love interest'), but there it is.

Still, I am going to keep up with this because cheekbones with designer stubble and violent PTSD get me every time.

Also, there is an evil mother! Kdramas have conditioned me that any story the hero of which is rich and angsty will have an evil mother. I am glad this is apparently universal.

Thanks [livejournal.com profile] att123 for reminding me of this. Here is the long trailer for CW's Beauty and the Beast:

I need this right NOW! It hits so many of my shippy kinks, it's insane. Plus, it's a bit Government conspiracy/fantasy/scifi-ish which is a favorite genre.

And speaking of things I need, have this new, longer Arrow trailer:

Angsty masked vigilantes are clearly an obsession of mine, as my fixation with Bridal Mask proves, so bring this on. Plus, arrows and hotness. MMMMMMMM.

CW is clearly where it's at for me, which means I am an eternal 15-yr-old girl at heart. Luckily, that's something I've come to terms with a while ago :P

Arrow (CW):

Batman meets Robin Hood means I am in (though nobody stows their bow strung, ARGH!!!). Plus, it's CW so we are guaranteed a lot of hot guys and wangst.

Beauty and the Beast (CW):

I am a sucker for that type of narrative and I never saw the original so the whole 'remake' thing doesn't bother me at all. Plus, see what I said about CW as far as hotness and angst.

Revolution (NBC):

I love dystopias and this one has swords!

Elementary:

Johnny Lee Miller! Lucy Liu! I love everything about it, including the possibility of the leads getting it on. Moffat fans are up in arms because omg something. But then I can't stand Moffat and his horrifying portrayal of women so there...

On the first ep and I looooooove!

I bought the complete series as a present for Mr. Mousie who loves it. Haven't seen it myself before now but it's turning into a gift that is just as good for the giver - because so good!

Also, am I insane or are there Ivanova/Talia vibes?
