According to dramabeans, Korea is remaking Proposal Daisakusen, the fluffy jdrama of some years back about a young man given a chance to change things at the wedding of his best friend whom he hopelessly loves. Starring in Yamapi's role is Yoo Seung Ho, finally in an age-appropriate role (I love the boy, but there is no question that his roles in both Flames of Desire and Warrior Baek Dong Soo should have been played by someone 10 years older).

Despite my horror (that continues and will continue forever) at the fact that someone in Japan thought it a good idea to remake Mawang, in general I am quite a fan of remakes. Often, they are better than the original because they have time to work out the kinks. E.g. I think Ikemen Desu Ne is better than You're Beautiful and The Empress is better than Jotei.

But I am puzzled as to why ProDai. Sure, it was a cute enough drama. It was also one I forgot the moment I finished. It seems odd that it got a remake but then Jotei did too and that was a clown trainwreck on LSD and it turned into quite a decent drama.

However, you know something which will make any sane person on my flist run? The writer is the one who wrote the Korean Boys Over Flowers. Dramabeans thinks the problem with BOF was more directing than writing but I beg to differ. BOF was, simply, the most atrociously-written kdrama I've ever had the misfortune to see (and with some of the turkeys I saw, that is saying a lot). By the end, it didn't even make sense and made me hate pretty much every character. Narratively it derailed into second-lead shipping which would have been fine if it carried through but, abruptly, it didn't (probably because the mangaka would have sued). I've ranted enough about BOF to not have to do it now, but think about it, people - if the writer could mess up this badly with something that (a) had a complete and detailed manga out and (b) two previous successful TV adaptations, what is she going to do to poor ProDai?

On second thought, I might tune in out of sheer curiousity.

I have finished ep 5 of Orthros No Inu and it was total love. Last year was a wash for me, jdrama-speaking - I cannot think of a single one I liked. This year is shaping lovely though - I am obsessed with OnI, I adored what I have watched of Smile (must complete now the subs are done), Otomen is very cute, and [livejournal.com profile] filmi_girl just introduced me to the adorableness that is Buzzer Beat. Not bad, jdrama world, not bad.

(I adore the 'subtle' symbolism)

Thoughts on and caps of ep 5 )

Oh, and as I mentioned up top, Buzzer Beat is adorable. Mainly because of the way Yamapi looks at his OTP:

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kitsune714 and [livejournal.com profile] vierran45, I have just learned of an existence of an old, old, old Yamapi drama where he is a store-clerk virgin who gets kidnapped by four women (two of whom are named Metallica and Sam Raimi) so they can date rape him and lose their own virginity.

[livejournal.com profile] filmi_girl and I had an awesome time watching Legend. It's even better the second time around.

But the post is not about that. The post? Is a picspam.

Today's object for a picspam? Korean actor Jo In Sung.

JIS is one of my favorite Asian actors, actually, after seeing him in the drama Something Happened in Bali and movie A Dirty Carnival. Yeah, I find him physically appealing, but it's not really because of that, but because of that incredibly intense vibe he has. He singlehandedly put Bali on my Top 10 kdramas list (he was such a darker version of Domyouji/Logan Echolls combo) and ADC was an amazing, amazing movie (about a small-time gang enforcer) I saw at a festival (he won Korea's equivalent of Best Actor Oscar for it), even if it did make me depressed enough to want to bash my head against the wall. If anyone can inform me about a movie or drama he did where he got to be happy for long stretches, I'd be grateful ;) ETA: Found it, comedy about North Korean gal and South Korean guy falling for each other. Yay.

He has an upcoming movie, which a period epic/gay love story, where he and Jo Jin Mo play an OTP, a King and a bodyguard. *meep*.

Anyway, pics, all from soompi:

Gigantic picspam )

Oh, and I found this awesome Yamapi gif in someone's sig in d-addicts:

Good night!

ETA: Oh, and I have only one ep of Beautiful Days left, and then it's Hotaru No Hikari. Yes.

...to announce that the lack of subtitled Kame/Nun is presently killing my soul!

I want my starving boxers and chirpy novices!

*weeps in emo*

If I had a dollar for every time I checked for subs, I'd be rich.

But this isn't about it. Per [livejournal.com profile] calledinvain, who is really really good about finding out stuff like this:

There are rumors that there will be an upcoming live action adaptation of Peach Girl. With Yamapi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made a loud, gulpy-sounding noise when I read this.

I love Peach Girl. It's total shoujo. It was my top candidate for 'should be made into a drama' award (I try to erase the horrible Taiwanese drama out of my mind).

And now it might happen?

With Yamapi? He would be a perfect Kairi.

Yeah, I know I am spamming. No, I don't care.

Because OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG he just hugged her from behind !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and asked her not to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! right after she told him she decided to accept someone else's proposal !!!!!!!!!! and he is wearing a suit and his eyes !!!!!!!!!!!! I think I died.

Seriously, I know Ken has trouble saying things, but Rei has to be blind during that whole conversation (or years before) not to realize how much he loves her.

OMG OMG OMG.

ETA: He is clutching her, desperately and he asked her to marry him !!!!!!!!!! But she pulled away and walked away and his face !!!!!!!!!!!

Dammit.

ETA2: And OMG, he spent a month's salary on engagement ring. And he asked for biggest size, because he didn't want the ring not to fit Rei and he didn't know the size. And oh, his eyes are wet. ohohohohohohooooooh.

ETA3: I adore Mikio. Totally. OTOH, I really am beginning to find Rei cruel.

ETA4: The scene on the playground with Rei and Ken? I have no words. !!!!!!!! Oh, and chibi!Rei and chibi!Ken and his saying he'll take responsibility for her? EEEEEE!

You know another thing that bothers me about Tada-sensei? He seems uninterested in Rei's past, but that is what makes her, her and a view that Ken can get but not Tada-sensei.

ETA5: OMG OMG OMG OMG. Ken's speech? >>>>>>>>anything. I was crying so hard I had problems reading subtitles. And oh, how perfect that it's not just for Ken to learn to express himself, but it's equally about Rei realizing that she was at fault too, for running away, for being unkind to Ken's 'clumsy gentleness' and being so afraid to be hurt by rejection she ran away first. OMG. And this intercut with shots of ken crying in the empty church? OMG. But seriously, that speech earlier? When he told her he loved her and loves her and why he does, in front of the whole crowd, he who was always too shy to express himself even when they were alone? Oh. Seriously. Oh ProDai.

ETA6: OMG. Rei actually running, running after Ken, in her wedding dress. OMG. I love you, makers of ProDai!. And Ken not knowing, riding away in a taxi. And Rei, so desperately wanting a miracle of her own, and being granted, and we end with one of the most gorgeous, hopeful, giddy endings I have seen: the taxi is broken down, and Ken is out the back, on the empty road, minus his suit jacket, pushing the car and then he hears Rei, calling his name, her special nickname for him, that she hasn't used since that night he proposed, 'Ken-zou!' and he turns and we close with that incredible, shining look on his face. Oh.

OMG, the bit in ep 8, where Yamapi decides to forget Rei but can't, and he spends the New Year's trying to hit the numbers with those baseballs over and over and over at that carnival (even though it's so expensive) to win that purse for her?

And he thinks he can't forget her and is crying?

OMG.

Also, it's official, Tada-sensei is creepy. He is hanging out with bunch of students and is dating one of them. Yikes.
