1. I watched Orthros No Inu ep 6 yesterday, which was as cheery as walking in a graveyeard on a rainy day. Ep 7 promises more of the same.

You know, even though I can see the flaws in acting and writing with this show, I like it because the concept is so freaking interesting.

2. Trailer for Oguri Shun's (and Mizushima Hiro's, if he is your thing) new drama, Tokyo Dogs is out.

3. I tried to order Korean channels via international package from my satellite provider - the number to call switches automantically into Korean which is a problem. The 'normal', English-speaking clerk was highly puzzled by my bizarre request (i.e. calling them instead as I could not speak the language) but was helpful. Sadly, their transfer system is down so must try another day. Suckily, they have every channel except for KBS which is what I really want (IRIS! Chuno!). Oh well.

4. aja-aja.com seems to have disappeared entirely - everything is access denied, with no 'donation' buttons any more. R.I.P. d-addicts thread for this was ridiculously entertaining, I must admit.

1. I have tried The King and I and quickly gave it up. Not only does it have a mind-numbing number of characters I cannot tell apart from each other or puzzle their relationships to each other, but within the first five minutes, someone is dug into the ground up to his neck, smeared with honey, and covered in bees. Thank you, very much for those nightmares, drama. All that, and a story about a eunuch starring an actress I dislike and an actor I find unappealing to say the least. In 60 episodes. PASS.

2. Episode 2 of Otomen is sheer adorableness (how does it get more adorable, how?) It's a rare jdrama adaptation of a shoujo manga I like. I am still behind on Orthros No Inu and Buzzer Beat and must catch up, though.

3. Out of curiousity, I checked out some of Tamra the Island ep 14 just to see if my opinion of that drama as the worst thing it has ever been my misfortune to see come out of Korea was justified. I was delighted to discover a tongue-in-cheek deliberately anachronistic take on period drama with some weighty issues thrown in. Unfortunately, said drama was Hong Gil Dong. Tamra, alas, remains a silly piece of fluff. LOL. It looks sort of improved - no potty humor and Im Joo Hwan and the lead girl whose name escapes me, aren't too bad at their jobs (girl has rather ceased channeling Jandi's crazed overacting). William is as wooden and hideously albino as ever, but we can't have everything. I have no motivation to watch more but am at least pleased to declare it not a total loss. And I think IJH and Lead Girl could star in Group 8's planned It Started with a Kiss remake - they physically look the part, have good chemistry, and not actors who I adore so I'd feel upset they are stuck in that mess. If surprisingly the drama turns out well, good for them, and if not, no loss to me :)

4. In good news for moi, Han Ji Min dropped out of Lee Jun Ki's Strange Heroes. Now, I adore HJM but the reason I am happy is her replacement. It's Kim Min Jung - I adored her to bits in Fashion 70s and she is in not nearly enough things. OMG YES.

5. A bunch of images from You're Beautiful are out, and also the images from a mini-concert they did. Oh YES. They did a promo mini-concert, LOL.

Emo Prince, a Mobster's Loved Stepsister, a bleached boybanded and some other guy form a band )

1. I was drunk for the first time in my life last night - well, according to Mr. Mousie, I was just very buzzed, but whichever term you use, this is the most inebriated I was ever. At age 31. I fail at riotous living, apparently. It was ... interesting. I don't think I will repeat the experience as I have no love of being out of control. Also, oh God, am I a cheap date! I only had two cocktails with dinner (we went out as baby was not here).

2. I have finished Mortal Instruments trilogy, reading the last 250+ pages in a gulp in a cafe. That's 3 books in 3 days. Whatever else CC is, she wrote books I went nutty over - if I were 15 this would be my favorite set of books and I'd want to be Clary so badly. As it is, I couldn't resist it anyway.

3. I am going to watch Farscape season 4 now - my long-ago rewatch stopped with S3 finale. After all this time, it is still my favorite piece of fiction of all time, except for Lymonc Chronicles. Interested? Here is a vid that's spoilery only through S2:

4. This reminds me. I want to watch some English language tv/mini - can be British, American, Canadian whatever. I like: scifi, angsty romance, linear storytelling, snark, strong friendships, teenagers, tough ladies, period setting, messed-up guys. I dislike: sitcoms, stuff without strong overarching story, lawyers and doctors and prisoners (as characters), all-male casts, "wholesomeness", neurotic heroines whose only goal is a guy (Felicity, is that you?).

Recs?

5. Apparently Tamra fans are staging protests over their show being cut down to 16 eps. Wait...there are Tamra fans??? Seriously. Some low-rated dramas are masterpieces (Worlds Within, Friend, Mawang etc), some are pretty good (Robbers, La Dolce Vita) but some are total crap - Tamra falls in the latter category. I have yet to understand how it can inspire anyone to anything but a great desire to turn it off.

6. Orthros no Inu ep 6 is out with subs. I cannot wait!

I have finished ep 5 of Orthros No Inu and it was total love. Last year was a wash for me, jdrama-speaking - I cannot think of a single one I liked. This year is shaping lovely though - I am obsessed with OnI, I adored what I have watched of Smile (must complete now the subs are done), Otomen is very cute, and [livejournal.com profile] filmi_girl just introduced me to the adorableness that is Buzzer Beat. Not bad, jdrama world, not bad.

(I adore the 'subtle' symbolism)

Thoughts on and caps of ep 5 )

Oh, and as I mentioned up top, Buzzer Beat is adorable. Mainly because of the way Yamapi looks at his OTP:

Because I have never met a spoiler I didn't like, I finally caved and went to d-addicts Orthros No Inu thread.

And then I saw this in the thread:

Picture from ep 5 )

Really?

REALLY?

OMG, I think I might hyperventilate from glee over more of my wrongwrongimusthaveit ship.

Side note: I think it's a crime Takki doesn't make more dramas.

A crime.

He is one of the jdrama actors I find both drop-dead-gorgeous (Nagase, Fujiki Naohito, and Takeshi Kaneshiro are only the other three who both make me this unthinkingly weak at the knees) and talented.

Am though ep 4 of Orthros No Inu and continue to love it. It is still all about Ryuzaki for me - half the time I am repulsed by him, and the other half fascinated and a little sad - and every time I think I get the grip on what makes him tick, he does something else that throws all my presuppositions off - like the scene in the hospital with sick kids - I was so sure he was yanking Aoi's chain and wanting him to kill. Maybe in part to get some rough justice, too. I wasn't even surprised he healed that kid in exchange as he promised (though I loved that I did not know whether he would or not). But he's also healed all the kids in the ward and that wasn't part of what he bargained for or anything like that - it seemed a genuinely good deed.

My badwrongiwantit ship continues to get fueled by the evil evil drama:

(And then she snaps the cuffs on him. LOVE YOU, HASEBE!)

Because I love men interacting with kids :P

And then we got to the end of ep 4 and a lot of things suddently made sense and I felt very very bad for Ryuzaki. He's not a nice person but my heart did break for him a bit. I can see why it wouldn't give one a rosy outlook on life.

I am about halfway through the second episode of Orthros No Inu and I really do love it - it is completely a live-action scifi anime.
