I am beginning to recover from an awful awful stomach bug I picked up somewhere. Eating is still not an activity I want to engage in, but tea tastes nice. Mr. Mousie has been an angel - taking care of Baby Mousie, making me toast (which I can't eat yet. Advice - worst way to lose a few pounds, ever, is to get a stomach bug) and tea.

Luckily for my "I have barely gotten out of bed all day" self, I have Shut Up: Flower Boy Band waiting to entertain me. All about high school wannabe rockers, this is one drama that is ridiculously entertaining, has attitude, and makes me think of a Boy Love manga, only minus the BL as it is a Korean drama (there is a heroine in this, and she's OK, but honestly, they might as well saved themselves the trouble). Have a MV:

Lee Min Ki cameos in this and, I swear, the man has a portrait in the attic somewhere. He got me to thinking who else I'd cast in my own rocker drama. I came up with:

and

Too bad No Win Woo is prepping for Full House 2 instead (have you seen that horrifying hair he's sporting for it?) and Kim Jae Wook is doing his military service.

Also, What's Up has almost finished its run and I can't wait to binge (I put it aside ages ago, because I thought it would be better watched in one go). If Shut Up is Dream High's older brother, who raided their Mom's make-up cabinet to sneak out to raves, What's Up is if Dream High and Glee had a kid, and then that kid cut off all his hair and went in for breaking and entering.

Seriously, I have no idea what cranky pills I was on when I initially checked out My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho because this drama is such a sweet darling darling darling darling and, I swear, disliking it is like kicking a puppy.

I mean, I present this scene from the end of ep 5:

How are they not the most adorable, awesome thing ever? Mi Ho is a huge girlcrush and I want to take her out and feed her all the beef ribs her fox self desires. She is so forthright and odd and alien and WONDERFUL! And Dae Woong is growing up so by leaps and bounds and you can just tell some time soon he will be awesome enough to deserve someone as !!!! as Mi Ho. I think the casting is really good with this drama - Shin Minah is not just gorgeous, she is someone I adored in everything I've seen her in - she can do loveable off-kilter in her sleep. And while I don't find Lee Seung Gi my cup of soju as far as looks go, he has this immense likeability no matter what - it worked in Brilliant Legacy and it works here.

Also, fox hunter guy, a.k.a. No Min Woo, is wooden as a tree here (he was amazing in Buhwal so I am glad he is a quick leaner) but oh boy is he pretty!

And final note! EEEEK! He neglected to tell Mi Ho that if Dae Woong holds on to her bead for 100 days, she will become human but he will die! DO NOT WANT!!!! Do not mess with my adorable (as yet, not really a) couple, drama!

I've cleaned up most of my Rock Rock Rock caps (there may be an additional small batch of more ep 4 caps coming) so here they are. Warning (though is it really the kind of thing one needs to warn about?): 90% of these are of No Min Woo, in part because the drama is all about him, all the time, and in part because he's ridiculously gorgeous.

Not sure if this reference is going to make sense to a lot of my flist, but after watching this, I've finally found someone to play Sakuya in the in-my-head adaptation of Sensual Phrase - sexy and messed-up rocker? Yup - perfect. I've never really found anyone who fit my mental idea of it before but now I have. (Obviously this is only in my head but who cares as chances of SP being adapted as live action anywhere = zero, due to it being majorly x-rated).

Caps caps caps - and remember Just Say No )

Probably because you get to see things that are normally verbotten in kdramas - rock music! drugs! suicide attempts! premarital cohabitation (in high school, no less)! jail time for crimes actually committed!

Won't someone think of the children!

And also because of No Min Woo's performance - like [livejournal.com profile] mookiehyun, I have previously thought he was a rock take on Kim Hyun Joong - a gorgeous guy made out of solid wood. That was probably an unfair assumption, since the one previous role I've seen him was in MGIAG which demanded nothing of him but to be pretty - the role's literal requirements were probably "humanoid-shaped block of wood." In RRR, he is actually given something to do other than to stand looking vaguely pained while staring at the heroine, and oooooooh boy - he seriously blew my socks off. (And if I were an unmarried lady, probably other bits of clothing too).

Anyway, this is a long version of "please watch RRR - it's only 4 eps and pure awesome".

And even if you won't here are caps from two of my favorite scenes. One because it's my favorite scene in the drama ('tis the shipper in me, I admit) and the other because I am a sucker for rain scenes well done.

Rain farewells )

And here is my favorite scene. It made me almost understand the appeal some ladies find in really screwed-up trainwreck guys. Almost. (Though seeing that during their first meeting he spent all the time talking about another woman, and she had to drag him home because he was so drunk, she probably wasn't under delusions about what she was getting into).

If you date a rocker, maybe you'll get to record a part of their album and they'll be psychotically hot and needy. Still, a banker is probably a more sensible choice )

I have a ton more caps so expect more RRR posts as soon as I sort through them. Meanwhile have a clip from a 2002 Buhwal performance.

I am barely an ep into Rock Rock Rock, a 4-episode special drama about Kim Tae Won, the guitarist of famous Korean rock band Buhwal, and I am obsessed!

So freaking good! It probably helps that I much prefer a 'proper' band like a rock one to the manufactured idol ones and you don't really see much of the former in kdramas (even when they try to have an 'indie' musician like Mugyul in MSOAN, it's not really indie - it sounds poppy just the same). Plus, I am always a sucker for the 'rise of a troubled musician' stories.

Also, the music - I really love. I am off to find Buhwal performances on youtube.

I didn't find many vids of the drama on youtube, but here is a scene from a later ep:

I have no idea if it's Kim Tae Won's vocals and No Min Woo is lypsynching to them, or it's NMW singing himself, but whoever's voice that is - I want to roll around in it.

No Min Woo, who plays the lead, apparently got picked by the Kim Tae Won himself because he knows how to play the guitar properly (NMW is a relative newbie to acting but he was a long-time member of Trax, a rock band created as a result of SM Entertainment's desire to branch out beyond idol groups - so sort of a rock band? Only manufactured? And with hot people? Hmmmm. Semi-rock then :P). I've previously seen NMW in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, where I spent what little of the drama I've seen (4 eps), wishing his cool character was the hero instead. I didn't notice much about him there though other than major hotness, because MGIAG didn't give much to him to do. Well, RRR does give him plenty of things to do and he is really really good in the role. Really good. When you combine his potential with those looks and the cool vibe, plus good choice in projects (I am really looking forward to seeing him in Midas), he is probably the drama newcomer I am interested in most.

In case you aren't sure whether No Min Woo is your cup of tea, here he is playing drums shirtless from some performance or another:
