Everything but the kitchen sink...
Nov. 28th, 2007 04:16 pmThis morning continues pretty good: the sky is shinily blue, I am wearing my favorite sweater/skirt combo (corded, form-fitting turtleneck of black-gray-pale pink and down to the ground a-line skirt, dark brown with a few thick, roughly patterned black/gray/pale pink stripes). Plus my favorite black boots, and I got complimented on my looks this morning by metro guys :D
I think I am now in that point in my drama cycle, where I madly crave jdrama (just as a few months ago I was in kdrama cycle, and before that twdrama). So a lot of this are rambles about potential candidates.
Anyway. Since this is long, varied, and rather rambly, I am going to cut, to spare the flist.
1. YES! YES! YES! I have finally found a link to the subbed version of MatsuJun’s Boku wa imouto ni koi wo suru movie. (For post linking the dl go here). Yup, it’s that movie. The one where MatsuJun is in mad, reciprocal love with his twin sister. I don’t know what is wrong with me. Normally, I view sibcest with all the delight of a hydrophobe confronting the Adriatic, but in drama world I sorta like it. No idea why. Oh, who am I kidding? I have no excuses, but I want to see this. Badly.
2. Speaking of MatsuJun, any idea when Hana Yori Dango 3 (the movie) is supposed to come out?
3. And that leads me to First Kiss. Has anyone watched it? Is it worth getting? I remember wanting to check it out because I adore Inoue Mao, and because Hiraoka Yuta plays the romantic lead, and I loved him in the secondary roles in Tattakoi and ProDai and am excited he got to be a lead. But then I got sidetracked (yes, I have the attention span of a bunny) and never checked it out. Is it good? And does anyone die?
4. Speaking of dramas I am curious about Shinsengumi. I love the period, the story could be awesome (Shinsengumi were a fascinating bunch), but is the drama good?
5. Everyone on my flist is excited for Honey and Clover drama. But I have a confession to make: I haven’t read the manga, watched the movie, or seen the anime (tried by animation style didn’t grab me so I sort of forgot about it). But still…hope it’s good.
6. I keep meaning to start Jotei, but keep being half-ashamed of the cheesiness. Let’s see which side of me shall prevail. I think the acid-throwing might be my undoing :D
7. Has anyone watched Itoshi Kimi E (To The One I Love). It sounds so like something I’d like:
What if the one you love were destined to lose his eyesight in three months?
What would you like him to see last?
If you were him, what would you want to see last?
Shiki Tomokawa is a new pediatrician who is enjoying her life. She falls in love with Shunsuke, a cameraman, who is destined to lose his eyesight in a couple of months. How will Shiki react when she finds out Shunsuke's destiny?
OK, I’ll confess my shallowness. Main reason I want to watch this is I want to see more of Fujiki Naohito.
As long as nobody dies, is all I am saying. Plus look, they look so adorable together.

8. Do people still want me to upload Brand? I know I started and then got really sidetracked (like I said, shortest attention span ever). This reminds me I need to finish it, but it’s in such a happy place I don’t want to move from there, if it makes sense.
9. Kame’s new drama: oh, just the thought of him playing an overweight boxer amuses me. Seriously, WTF? I mean, he makes MatsuJun look bulky. But I love the boy so will check it out, especially since he is supposed to fall for a nun.
10. Is Friends with Won Bin good? Oh, and when is Lee Wan’s new jdrama coming out?
11. Rondo and Remote. Are they good? What is Rondo about? The men look hot, so I am just sayin’. I think I remember
meganbmoore posting about both.
12. I really must finish Hana Kimi. I think I’ll enjoy it. I came into it with unreasonably high expectations because the casting was so pitch perfect (Oguri Shun as Sano? Horikita Maki as Mizuki?) but I was disappointed because it wasn’t faithful to the manga. Now that I know it isn’t, I’ll enjoy it, I think. As long as there is kissing. There better be. (Even though I am almost sure the rescuing from rapist scene is gone, it doesn’t seem to be that sort of drama).
13. Mukodono. Good or stupid? And will Karei-naru Ichizoku make me a total wreck?
1. Does anyone know of the cheapest (yet reliable) way to buy manga on-line? I want to get the rest of published Basara (I only have through volume 6) but it’s a lot of volumes, and it’s bound to be expensive when added up.
2. Seeing that I have been sniffing around From Far Away for better part of a week, I foresee it being the next manga I read. It makes me think of Fushigi Yuugi (fantasy romantic adventure), and everyone knows how mad I was for that.
3. I tried reading the first volume of Sapuri and didn’t care for the art and was bored. I think I’ll stick to the drama. Which I need to finish (seriously, I have the shortest attention span in history).
4. I got volume 9 of Skip-Beat. Heh. I love Kyoko in all her scary glory. And eeeee, Ren is not good at ‘love’ parts of the acting? Because he doesn’t allow himself to care about anyone and it reflects in his acting? Hmmmm.
tatterpunk has been promising me delicious Ren angst in the future, so with her promises and this stuff (the boss is all ‘I know why you find it difficult to get close to people’), I hope it’s a doozy. Is it me, btw, or does Ren look a bit like Sakuya in Sensual Phrase?
5. Speaking of which, I started rereading Sensual Phrase. Bad idea. Well, not bad per se, as it’s still trashily supremely wonderful, but bad idea to do so on the metro. Even with volume 1. I kept slouching in my seat, and pulling the volume close to me, hoping the fellow passengers wouldn’t take me for an utter perv :P
6. I also checked out the first volume of S.A. It’s part Kare Kano, part Ouran. Cute and fun in the ‘reading in the bookstore’ kinda way. Our heroine is number 2 student and her goal is to once win over our hero, number 1. But they are also pretty good friends, and he seems to like her in a certain way, even if neither of them yet realize it. The art is pretty.
1. Bull Fighting is total cuteness:

I have to say that Asian parents are HARD-CORE. I mean, Hebe’s Dad ended up whippng Lee Wei so badly the boy has bloody stripes on his back because he helped her switch schools? But I am still not watching this because need to finish the awesome Why Why Love (it’s just the angst is about to hit and I am protective of my OTP).
2. Speaking of Taiwanese dramas: SQUEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I repeat: SQUEEEEEEE!!!!!
Did you know that there is an upcoming drama, Hot Shot, starring Jerry Yan (!!!) AND Alan Luo (!!!) AND Wu Zun (!!!).
How is this much hotness going to be crammed into one drama? How? Heck, the thought of Sano and Domyouji in the same drama makes me hyper (I was going to make a manga related joke here, but Alan Luo hasn’t been in a manga adaptation, to my knowledge. My alternative ‘men who kissed Barbie Xsu on screen’ joke also fell flat as Wu Zun never did that :P)
But seriously. OMG. How????????????????????????
3. A hot Vic Zhou picture or two, just because:

omg, can have we died and gone to heaven?! though i don't love jerry as much as wu xun or alan luo, i still oved him in meteor garden. and totally understand your excitement about "sano and doumyoji in the same drama" i would say that about hana yori dango, but sano IS rui in the jap-adaptation. i wonder if all three will be the leading men. ahh, this is making my mood even better. =D

It's even more awesome than Ken and Vic making a drama together.
*thud*
Re: First Kiss. Thanks. I think I'll skip it for now.

Very good. And very cute. It's only 4hrs so it won't be a huge time investment either.
As long as there is kissing. There better be. (Even though I am almost sure the rescuing from rapist scene is gone, it doesn’t seem to be that sort of drama).
Hana Yori Dango 3 Latest word is summer 2008...
Yes & no. Drunk kissing - & with more than 1 person... O_O (curiousity peaked?) Other is typical Jdrama kiss. Squee-worthy romantic moments/kissing like in the Tdrama? Sadly, nope. And the rapist scene was totally gone. It's a totally silly, "treasure your high-school days" type drama - but very amusing.

Date: 2007-11-28 10:15 pm (UTC)As for Honey and Clover, I totally devoured the manga... I cried so hard reading it...I know, I embarrass myself, but it's just so emotionally wrenching. It might have to do with the fact that I was relocating at the time, so man, did that manga strike a chord. I guess I felt lucky I was able to read it all in one go.
I'm not sure if I'll be interested in the drama - I loved, absolutely loved the manga too much. The anime was okay, but I am the type who prefers manga over anime most of the time. I'm just too impatient to sit and wade through filler. However, I've heard the anime for H&C doesn't have much filler.
AND HOTSHOT!!! Jerry Yan and Wu Zun, my heart will explode. It will. The hotness cannot be contained!!!! Yes, I am a little bit obsessed over Jerry and I'm not afraid to admit it <3
As for Kaikan Phrase, it's like.. oh man.. my freaking guilty pleasure during my pre-yaoi days. I think it was around that time my yaoi/BL obsession took hold and um.. yah.. those kind of took care of my smut quota :D

I am usually the other way around, I think because I like listening to the voices.

No need to be afraid as I think you have awesome taste :) I mean, those cheekbones? *thud*

Date: 2007-11-28 10:16 pm (UTC)Yes! But it will make you fall in love with Kimura Takuya if you haven't been a fangirl of him before, or at least with Teppei, his character.
Never did a sad drama capture me more than Karei.

3. I checked out First Kiss because of Mao and Yuta. Mao's character annoyed me and Yota wasn't that cute in this, lol. I stopped after a couple episodes.
5. I'm excited for the drama too! I still need to see the film. :)
7) I'm saving For the one i love. I love Fujiki Naohito but I'm just not sure if i'm ready for another emo drama. Please tell me if it's worth it when you get to see it :)
6) I've seen all of Jotei. It's such bad cheese. :P The crap dramas I see just because Shota is in it. I think it's entertaining when you have free time but not something i would just recommend.

Date: 2007-11-28 10:26 pm (UTC)2. YAY!!!! I wonder what it will be about.
3. Yeah, I read up on it and doesn't sound so good.
5. I love jdramas, but jmovies are a mixed bag for me. But we'll see.
7. I've never seen him in anything but the secondary role in proDai. Which ones would you recommend?
6. Yeah, I am basically in it for Shota.

Date: 2007-11-28 10:37 pm (UTC)I think you'd like Rondo. It's part Korean drama and part Japanese drama, though obviously produced as Japanese drama. That chick from Winter Sonata (who's name I can't remember right now) is the female lead against Takenouchi Yutaka (who is brilliant and hot!) who is the male lead.
Jotei is totally your cup of tea though. I mean, the ACID-THROWING!! *laughs* I dunno, but I LOVED it. It was such a wonderfully addicting guilty pleasure and it's a joy to watch Kato Rosa (the lead) and Matsuda Shota both mature in their roles. They both still have some ways to go, but they have promise. :)
Itoshi Kimi e is a wonderfully quiet romance drama. Fujiki Naohito is beautiful, and if you've never seen anything with Kanno Miho in it, this will be a good start. She was like the first Japanese actress that I really liked and she's still on my list of awesome actresses. And she's pretty. :D
In the end, yay for Japanese!drama!binge! :D
no subject
Date: 2007-11-28 10:47 pm (UTC)Mmmm, Rondo sounds awesome, what with my love of kdramas and all.
And I know jotei is my thing. I am going to revel in melodrama at the same time as I mock it. I hate to admit it, but it's true :)
I really must watch IKE asap. I want to see more of FN and I haven't watched that many 'older' dramas.
btw, since you are somewhat of a jdrama guru, is 'Himicho no Hanazono' good?
And yes, it's going to be a jdrama binge. I haven't watched one for months and I miss them!

Date: 2007-11-28 11:14 pm (UTC)Buying Basara: Right now(until the 2nd), Rightstuf.com has everything 30% off, and it should include most, if not all, of Basara. I think you can also get most volumes in Amazon's 4-for-3 program.
Shinsengumi: Have it, watched a bit of the first ep, looks good, been told it's very good, but just haven't watched it yet.
Itoshi Kimi E: Want to see it for Naohito(doubt he'll ever be hotter than he was in g@me, though) myself. I remember someone on my f-list started it recently and gave the first ep or 2 a solid thumbsd up, but don't remember anymore posts on it.
Rondo and Remote: Love both. Rondo posts are at my LJ, but I'd have to hunt for my Remote post...I think I only posted it to the comm.
From Far Away: I like it. Nowhere near a favorite, but a good read. I POSSIBLY actually have an extra copy of Vol 1 from when I thought I'd lost mine, but I'm not positive.
Ren's suckiness at romance is part of the charm. Didn't care for the cover of the Sapuri manga, myself, but haven't actually seen it yet.

Date: 2007-11-28 11:20 pm (UTC)Itoshi Kimi E: I am so shallow, I never heard of it but then saw pics of Naohito in it and was all 'must have!'
FFA sounds cute but we'll see.
Re: Remote. I remember alexandral liked it too.
Sapuri manga's art is so not...artistic. Didn't care for it.
Re: Shinsengumi. Glad to hear it! Now, only if it wasn't so bloody long! I have yet to finish even Yoshitsune (am bad).
