Five Fingers - episodes 10 and 11 pitch me over into the rabid camp

Five Fingers is really really so good! (Don't get me started on it being beaten in the ratings by brain-dead May Queen). I've liked it from the start, but with the latest batch of episodes, I am officially "I want to binge on everything" obsessed.

It helps that in these latest episodes, Ji Ho has finally found what a cave of sharks he has been living with and giving his soul to and I am confident he can take them on and win. Joo Ji Hoon is rocking the role - he excels in these moments of stillness where you can tell a million thoughts are going on under the facade. When he finds out his mother tried to ruin him (and his later revelation about the rescue night) - I get genuinely scared by him. Because Ji Ho is a good person but you get the sense that he is good by choice and he is more than capable of ruthlessness and darkness and unleashing hell. Choi Sira is more and more excellent (of course) as Ji Ho's mother - their scenes are Oedipal in their complexity and longing and loathing. Young Ran is a monster but a pitiable one - her life with her abusive husband has broken her and she chooses to act out her darkness by getting revenge on Ji Ho, whom she sees as her husband's representative.

I expected to be fascinated by the mother-son dynamic. What I did not expect was to fall deeply and madly in love with the romance. Jin Se Yeon has improved tremendously from Gaksital and her Dami is such a shining soul of light and hope in this. I have every hope that Ji Ho will emerge from the darkness because he has her. She and Joo Ji Hoon have gorgeous chemistry together - it is not passionate but it is romantic beyond words. I turn into a pile of pink goo any time they are within ten feet of each other. They are so sane together, so compatible, so right. I especially love how she can make him happy even on worst days, even when his world is crashing around him.

Dami is smart, kind, compassionate, but also with unshaken self-respect and common sense. If anyone could have saved In Ha from his pathetic jealousy and darkness, it would have been her, but I love that she does not want to - she loves Ji Ho and makes it unmistakable to In Ha any time he steps out of line. In Ha is my least favorite character in this, because I want him to stop acting like a spoiled 5-year-old but he is interesting and, ironically, much more like his father, Young Ran's hated husband, than Ji Ho ever was. The way he obsesses over someone who doesn't want him is a pretty good example.

6. Possession is what matters, not feeling (he is fine with having a woman who only picked him as a last resort for money. In fact, that's his plan).

If he someone did get her, I can see this progressing to his locking her up, forbidding her to have contact with any friends/family and beating her up when she steps out of line. Jin Se Yeon tends to attract utter psychos as secondary guys, doesn't she? :)

But then his Mother is an enabler - promising In Ha she will get Dami for him (Lady, he isn't five and Dami isn't the new train set he wants for Christmas!) and trying to get Ji Ho to dump Dami 'because your brother likes her.' (Which makes no sense - there aren't only two men left in the world. Even if Dami isn't with Ji Ho, doesn't mean she will pick In Ha. In Ha is a pretty off-putting choice even without Joo Ji Hoon's cheekbones being in the picture). Thankfully Ji Ho's reaction is 'WTF!' Though even Mother is realizing In Ha is off the rails and is exactly like his psycho Daddy whose In Ha-like actions made her life hell (how ironic. Ji Ho, whom she hates as her husband's representative, is nothing like that).

Faith episode 15 - possibly my favorite hour of television ever

I am home today so I gave in and watched ep 15 raw, with the help of softy's awesome live summary. Do you know when was the last time I watched a drama raw? City Hunter, over a year ago.



I cried, I swooned, I was left in a state of shock and awe. This was beyond perfect. You know, even in the unlikely event this drama nosedives in its last third, it would have earned a place on my favorites list just due to this episode.

According to Koala, the latest contenders for the leading lady role in Yoochun's melo 'I Miss You' are Gu Hye Sun and Lee Min Jung.

TPTB must really hate me!

Those are the only two kdrama actresses I cannot stand. I might even be prepared to tolerate Jang Nara more than those two. GHS is the worst kdrama actress I've ever seen - I can deal with wooden but it's hard to ignore when someone on your screen constantly emotes like a chipmunk on speed - I've seen her in Boys Over Flowers, Absolute Boyfriend, The King and I, that ridiculous Eric fusion thing, and she was uniformly unbearable in every single one. To add insult to injury, she has little chemistry with her costars and I don't find her in the least good-looking. UGH. BARF.

Lee Min Jung is objectively pretty (though she makes me think of a borzoi for some reason), and isn't as teeth-grindingly bad as GHS but I just cannot stand her. That started with BOF, where her appearance (and utterly ridiculous amounts of screentime) signified the turning point of when this drama went from awesome to flaming trainwreck. The disaster that was BIG did not help. In general, she just irritates me for some reason. I mean, I even skipped MIDAS with my obsession Jang Hyuk because she was in it.

Basically, either one of them in, I am out. The end.
