"To wait three months to have a French version, that is too much!" said Ketty Do, a 17-year-old, flipping through the English version at a bookstore on the Champs-Elysees.

Do called the teen translator "a courageous person," but added, laughing: "Still, I will wait for the official version, since this kid is only 16."

Twelve-year-old Robin Gallaud, looking at video games in the bookstore, had no such reservations. "If I find the French version on the Net, I will read it," he said.

Some French bloggers lamented the shutdown of the pirated translation site, though fragmented translations are still available elsewhere, including one by a 54-year-old author who published the final 10 pages of the book in French on his blog.

Neil Blair, a lawyer at the Christopher Little Literary Agency, said Rowling's agents were "heartened" that the French authorities took action against the teen "to protect copyrights and to avoid innocent fans being duped."

Blair said French police had identified an organized system of online translation networks where unofficial translations of Harry Potter are posted onto Web site networks and then onto peer-to-peer networks. The managers of these networks derive profit by attracting advertisers. Blair said French police told him one young woman had been questioned about these networks, but was released.

Time Between Dog and Wolf, stop making me swoon

Who squealed like a little girl when the OTP finally met in episode 2 and figured out they were childhood friends?



I literally yelped out loud. But that scene is so perfect. LJK is there to pick something from her for his brother. And he is (as always) very polite but very reserved. And she asks him if she knows him from somewhere, and he replies he doesn't think so. And then he sees her notebook and sees her Thai name!!!!!!

And OMG. The look of quiet delight on his face. You see him transform into a human and he looks so happy and surprised and like...in a fairy-tale or something. And he offers to walk her to the metro (it's raining) and they are within this magical private space of the umbrella and the camera swims around their faces, and he is tilting the umbrella so it would cover her more even though he is getting rained on. And then at the station, he does the special greeting gesture and calls her Thai name and OMG. EEEEEE!

You know, I don't generally have a problem with fell for each other as children love stories as long as there is some establishment for it, and here it actually makes sense. Not only did they hang out for quite a bit, this was his last bit of normalcy, true carefreenss, before his mother's murder after which he's never been the same.

'Emo brother' (tm lesbiassparrow) never has a chance with the heroine, does he? Dorky lay-about or angsty, super-efficient childhood love who looks like LJK? Come ON. Though that scene with him looking at stars of dead in service on the wall seems like foreshadowing. Don't die! Have pretty babies with your OTP instead!

Meta thoughts on hurt/comfort. Why do we love it so?

This post arises mainly out of a joking discussion I've been having with lesbiassparrow. But joking or not, it IMO hit on something very interesting to me.

It is the prevalence of hurt/comfort in fanfic and love for hurt/comfort in canon, among fandom. And (at least where I hang out), this fandom, from Harry Potter to dramas to various scifi, is predominantly female.

Why do so many women (myself among them) are such suckers for hurt-comfort scenario? I've liked h/c ever since I remember. When I was a kid. Before I knew what h/c was. We write fic about it, we enjoy reading fic about it, we enthuse when we have h/c in canon. Why? I can't say it's necessarily sexualized, not in the crudest sense of the word. I imagine most h/c fans aren't people who are literally getting excited by a man who is all battered.

But still, most subjects of h/c in fanon are male. Most squeeing over canon h/c is when the 'hurtee' is male. There has to be a sexualized aspect to it. Is it that a man with issues/pain is actually more complicated and interesting? Is it some sort of nurturing instinct which wants someone helpless so he could be helped (presumably by a character the reader/viewer either identifies and projects onto, or just likes). Is it a mere distancing because female pain is too 'close to home' for a female audience member, or (provided, of course, the audience member is not only female but straight) the fact that men are someone the viewer/reader attracted to, so there is something attractive about bloody cheekbones or weepy eyes, while with a female character there is no veneer of attractiveness to viewer over it, so there is just pain.

Does making a strong man helpless makes him more 'equal' and 'approacheable.' Does it just show that someone is really necessary to him, to help him heal, thus helping the view of love as crucial to life. What?

I am honestly curious about this. (And for once, don't mind if metafandom comes over :P)

There is also side question. if any of people replying are lesbian and/or bisexual women. Is there an interest in creating h/c scenarios with women as subjects?

Btw, this quote of lesbiassparrow on the topic (with which I utterly agree btw) is made of awesomeness: "I am deeply disturbed by how much better I feel that 'Time of Dog and Wolf' got once they started beating the living daylights out of the hero at least once an episode. I refuse to interrogate what this says about me but I am sure it is nothing good. (And the hero getting beat up is not a spoiler because I feel this is the sort of show where they will whack the living daylights out of him on regular basis because they can.)"

alexandral (and anyone else who is waiting because of it), apparently the scene of Lee Jun Ki dying in the first five minutes of ep 1 is something that is led to in the extended flashback, but the series jumps from then to continuing after that in ep 7. So he isn't dead. Whether he'll live at the end, I of course have no idea.



Anyway, I am flabbergasted by the hotness. I adored him in My Girl, but physically he wasn't my thing, too girly. I thought he was excellent in The King and the Clown, but yeah, not drooling. But here? *pant*

In other news, apparently, Takki will be in a new drama (a special, ergo short), portraying one half of a young couple who find out their small kid has some jdrama decease and angst ensues.

alexandral (and anyone else who is waiting because of it), apparently the scene of Lee Jun Ki dying in the first five minutes of ep 1 is something that is led to in the extended flashback, but the series jumps from then to continuing after that in ep 7. So he isn't dead. Whether he'll live at the end, I of course have no idea.



Anyway, I am flabbergasted by the hotness. I adored him in My Girl, but physically he wasn't my thing, too girly. I thought he was excellent in The King and the Clown, but yeah, not drooling. But here? *pant*

Help me, someone. Oh God, I now want to write h/c fic involving TbD&W. But then there'd been few other dramas pushing my h/c kinks as much as this one. Also, 'emo brother' better not get the girl. Someone has to kiss and make it all better for LJK's character :)

In other news, apparently, Takki will be in a new drama (a special, ergo short), portraying one half of a young couple who find out their small kid has some jdrama decease and angst ensues.

People on soompi are giddy because apparently his wife is played by his otp from 'Strawberry on Shortcake' which I haven't seen.

But honestly? I don't care if it's about some baby!dying!angst (oh, jdrama, never change), or about him being cute with his OTP.

Also, vacation for September is decided. It won't be Chile/Argentina as driving the Andes is a bit too iffy as we might get stuck because of snow. Instead, we are going to...ta-dum! Scandinavia. Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and possibly Finland. YAY.
