Some bizarro gleeing
Aug. 10th, 2007 11:14 amIn a fit of perhaps deluded grandeur, I refuse to believe that the makers of Time Between Dog and Wolf did not decide to create this drama for my express gratification, by thinking ‘this lj user dangermousie, let’s cater to all her things.’
Though I am also willing to accept a planning/brainstorming session that went like this:
TPTB Person No 1: Ooooh, I know! Let’s get Lee Jun Ki for our next drama. We’ll get good ratings as he is popular and hot.
TPTB Person No 2: You know what would be even hotter? Lee Jun Ki in a little pain.
TPTB Person No 3: What do you mean ‘a little?’ We are kdrama makers!
TPTB Person No 1: Right, right. Chicks live for that stuff. But we can’t have him die in a snow bank pining for his love. We can only film in the summer!
TPTB Person No 2: I know! We can make him a macho anti-mob government unit member.
TPTB Person No 1: Are you mental? We want him in pain, not inflicting it on others. We all know how well his ‘Fly Faddy Fly’ did when they forgot that important principle.
TPTB Person No 2: Stop interrupting! We can make him a PTSD-ing officer, who has some horrible childhood trauma…like his Mom dying of cancer or something.
TPTB Person No 3: *visibly getting excited* Nah, we should have her killed in front of his eyes by a mob enforcer when he is 12! Yeah, yeah, and his Dad is dead, so he is an orphan…
TPTB Person No 1: *now bouncing up and down in glee* And the mob enforcer will turn out to be the father of the girl he loves. His childhood best friend and first love, in fact.
*moment of silence, as they are all overcome by their brilliance*
TPTB Person No 2: *not to be outdone* And as an adult he can spectacularly go to pieces during his first mission, trying to kill the man who killed his Mom. Just think of the angst potential!
*now the ideas are really flying*
TPTB Person No 3: And he can infiltrate the mob, too! All the angst in that!
TPTB Person No 1: And his adopted brother can be in love with his girl!
TPTB Person No 2: And there should be fake death and amnesia!
TPTB Person No 1: And meanwhile his brother will grow closer to the girl LJK loves and LJK won’t be able to do anything about it!
TPTB Person No 3: And we can have him beat up and tortured in every episode!
TPTB Person No 1: Brilliant. Truly brilliant. We are so in the clover. The guys are going to dig the ‘tough guy’ stuff and the girls are going to want to tend his wounds. Good ratings, here we come.
TPTB Person No 2: Wait, why is Lee Jun Ki cowering in the corner? Who invited him to the meeting anyway?
TPTB Person No 1: Ahhh, actors. They don’t understand true genius. *kindly, to LJK* Look at it this way. At least in this one you don’t have to cross-dress and slit your wrists on screen.
Seriously, so far (three episodes in) this looks like the drama with the most chance of me watching it as it airs through to the end (I am usually very bad on it, preferring to binge once they are done).
( Some comments on eps 3 and 4 )
The subbers for this are insanely fast. Subs for ep 7 are already out! Some wonderful people basically take Chinese subs that appear super fast and translate them into English. The subs are really really good, too, and are out basically the next day after the ep. It’s like Hanadan giddiness of subs all over again, only with way more manpain.
