Or is it going to make my One Tree Hill watching seem pleasant in comparison? After all it does have Katie "Kidnapped by the cult" Holmes and James "oldest and baldest teen ever" Van Der Beek...

Well Joey and Pacey were another one of those cult chemistry phenomenon couples. And they do get a happy ending.

It's kind of long winded though (lots of seasons). And it might be too soapy for your (most characters go through a bunch of couplings till they get paired with their one true love).

They did have some extremely good writing early on.

And Pacey strikes me as the Logan type in some of his actions.

Sadly, I didn't watch regularly enough to be able to give you any tips on which seasons are the most worthwhile ones.

Yeah, I was surprised the titular character of the show didn't get the girl...

That's a big negative, right there. You get one pass, one time. After that, choose! (I am going to scream if Veronica is going to keep going back and forth between Duncan and Logan). I mean, make up your freaking mind!

Pacey strikes me as the Logan type in some of his actions.

Heee. You know just what buttons to push :)

Hey I compared Duncan to Angel so you shouldn't trust my judgement :D

Yeah, I was surprised the titular character of the show didn't get the girl...

Well at least according to their fans it was because of the overwhelming power of their wazooo chemistry.

Yup, Duncan's no Angel. Heee :) I don't think there's an Angel equivalent on VM, anyway. Too pragmatic a show for the deathless star-crossed thing...

according to their fans it was because of the overwhelming power of their wazooo chemistry.

Heee. Chemistry will sell me on almost anything

From a quality statement I would say "dear God no". I watched a lot of it though, because I was an RA and it was fun to watch with my froshes and make fun.

Also, I'd love to hear your take on it, so I am torn.

It apparently was more a cultural phenomenon. I remember when it came out everybody was watching it and I was the only one who didn't like it (and even I got sucked in for like half a season or so against my better judgement).

Heh. I mind end up renting some random eps and doing a OTH with them: putting them on 2x with subtitles and watching a few to see how it works. Shows don't have to be good to be entertaining :)

The most worthwile thing about that show is Joey and Pacey, circa S3. The chemistry between Josh Jackson and Katie Holmes is just incredible. And Pacey Witter is in my "top five fictional men" category. At first glance he's just a regular slacker teen, but there's something so noble about him when you look past the surface.

So I'm not sure that I'd recommend the show (especially since I HATE the titular character more than I've ever hated a fictional person in my life), but Pacey/Joey, second half of S3, might be worth the price of admission.

Cute icon! I decided to stay away, I think: it's hard to slog through that many seasons and...gasp...Pacey is not gorgeous enough to compensate (maybe he's hot though?)

Dawson hate amuses me. Because J vdB is bizarre looking. I am shallow

I thought the Beek was attractive when I was fifteen and first watching this show, but now...not so much. He has a forehead the size of Texas, I swear to God.

Josh Jackson, on the other hand...

Pacey is not gorgeous enough to compensate (maybe he's hot though?)

It sounds cliche, but it really is the personality that makes Pacey so attractive - although I find JJ gorgeous in his own way. I mean, just look at those eyes (http://www.creekdaze.com/caps/gallery/displayimage.php?album=23&pos=695). (That's S6 Pacey, but even in the earlier years he was a cutie (http://www.creekdaze.com/caps/gallery/displayimage.php?album=65&pos=401).)

But in the end I can't blame you for staying away. There's a lot about this show that drives me CRAZY.

Dawson's Creek, when I watch it, makes me exceedingly and inexplicably happy. It might be the all-around (IMO) snark, which is delish, or the Joey/Pacey OMGadorableness. No, I am not a devotee, I'd say I've watched maybe five eps all the way through. But I like it. You might, too.

But then again, you might not. The eps I've seen have been maddeningly typical, story-wise, for a teenish drama. BSG is not so formula, which is why I like it, it's all uncharted so it can surprise me. The teenish drama genre has been picked at and picked at, until you often have to get really super kinky to do anything new and fresh.

My macho gym teacher was talking about how awesome One Tree Hill is today. It was...interesting.
Does Katie Holmes have pupils anymore? In Batman Begins, she's like this soulless entity that bugs people to take action, while herself being this completely ineffectual pest.

Oooookay.

First of all. DC, ridiculous as it sometimes is, is about a million times better than OTH. I'm still trying to figure out why I even watch OTH. Maybe I do it ironically. I definitely get some joy out of mocking it.

Also, Season 3 Pacey/Joey is the place to go.

I love Pacey Witter. As for the "not hotness" I can't even think that way since I love him as a character so much. And he's *so* Loganesque (who, as you know, I didn't initially find attractive) despite the fact that he's more wrong side of the tracks-ish than spoiled rich boy. Still - the snark, the funny, and the buried sweetness and vulnerability.

But I also can't entirely divide my Creek watching from the fact that I watched it communally with other silly college girls and it was fun. My second college roommate and I even became friends initially after shamefully admitting to our Creek watching.

::blushes:: yeah.

It's funny. I thought long and hard before putting "Dawson's Creek" in as one of my interests. Because it's not something I would ever get involved in the fandom for.

But then I was like, "have no shame, if people don't like you for watching teh Creek then who needs 'em.

I still have some shame though. Especially now since we've never interacted before and now you're going to think of me as the DC girl forever more. :P

I must admit...Dawson's Creek is among my guilty pleasures. I didn't watch the show while it actually aired, but got addicted a few summers back to reruns (on TBS, I believe). Sure, it could be sappy and manipulative, but there are some great moments of writing and snarkness, some touching bits thrown in, and somehow they really do manage to make you care about the characters. Now, I became a Dawson/Joey shipper (so sue me), as the whole freaking series was built on the two of them being soul mates, and the end still pisses me off, but...it's fun anyway. And I've only see one episode of OTH, but from what I could tell, DC was much better.

Well, it's hard to be worse than OTH. Everyone on it is made of plastic, except Peyton, who is made of wood.

Did you know Rob Thomas wrote for Dawson's Creek? He did two episodes during the first season ('Kiss' and 'Roadtrip'). So you might want to watch those episodes, if for no other reason.
I have to admit that at first I didn't get what was so great about the show, but it grew on me. It had some great snark (Pacey especially rivals Logan there), but it was also a little manipulative and it pissed me off sometimes, and then there are a few times it made me cry (what can I say, I'm a sap :P). So just watch at your own risk, I guess.
