My last post got me started on a selective rewatch of Can You Hear My Heart (by selective, I mean shippy parts :)) and ohhhhh, Kim Jae Won.
My crush on him came back full force like nobody's business. A man has no business being so gorgeous.

Plus, Dong Joo is the sweetest, sanest, most decent person despite all the horrible stuff in his life and thus a total drama crush.
Lots of shippy caps coming soon :)

Watching Me Too, Flower makes me miss Kim Jae Won so much! I wish so fervently he didn't have an accident and had to drop out - I keep seeing him in the role. That is not to say that Yoon Si Yoon is not knocking it out of the park, because he is, but what can I say - I am a hopeless KJW fangirl. So to assuage my KJW craving, I've been rewatching the shippy bits of the ridiculously underrated and marvelous Can You Hear My Heart. It was a very solid drama in every way, but for me, the heart of the drama was the relationship between Kim Jae Won's character - warm and just good underneath the prickliness and damage and Hwang Jung Eum's sweet, loving, selfless, tough gal. Dong Joo and Woori both got a rough deal in life and yet somehow emerged with shining, selfless souls. I love them together because they are sweet and funny and loving and trusting with each other. Because she needs for someone to take care of her, instead of being taken care of by her. And he needs someone to see him - not the rich heir, or someone with a 'despised' disability or anything else, just a person.

And they are so tender with each other, it kills me.
( Behind the cut are two gorgeous scenes from ep 18 )
In unrelated news, I am continuing with Jilly Cooper books - I am reading two at the same time - "Polo" and "The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous" - about a headstrong young woman trying to make her way in polo and a dim but sweet young man who makes a living fake-seducing rich middle-aged wives so their husbands would come back to them from their mistresses, respectively. I love both of them (though, surprisingly, Man better than Polo, mainly because while I like Perdita, she's hella difficult). Also, it's official - there is no married couple in Jilly Cooper books, except for Rupert/Taggie, where there hasn't been adultery at one point or another - maybe it's my prudish American mentality, but surely if your spouse means so little to you that you are willing to break their heart and lie, you are better off divorced? Also, Polo has Rupert and Taggie's wedding which = me in a puddle of goo. And last but not least, if there is anything Jilly Collins books taught me is be careful who you try to sleep with, especially if, like Perdita, you know you are a product of a drugged-up, drunk orgy you Mom had in the 1960s and nobody has no idea who your Daddy is. I mean, stick to guys your own age and hope they are not half-siblings. Perdita should thank her lucky stars Rupert is obsessed with Taggie because if she tried her "I am naked in your bed, let's have fun" stunt before he met Taggie, I am sure he'd have been happy to oblige and sleeping with your own father is not good unless it's Futurama.

Ugh, Maru/Jun Ha/whatever is the most self-absorbed, selfish, emo-whiny character ever.
He's caused major deliberate grief to (a) YJ, who is pretty close to an angel in human form and is an amazing Dad to Maru the Ungrateful (b) Woori - yeah, trying to break her up with Dong Joo and belittling it all is sucky, but trying to get her attention withholding info that he is Maru is another level of sick (c) Halmoni - the scene in ep 18/19 where he was such a f****** bastard to an old, ill lady and then left her there to have a fit? I want him to freaking fry (d) Dong Joo, who has been an amazing, selfless, loving brother to him - oh, when he kept throwing Dong Joo's disability in his face I WANTED TO STAB HIM! What kind of a psycho does that?
Ugh, go jump off a roof or something.
I know family dramas, guy is going to be redeemed or something but he really should not be forgiven - not by YJ and family, Woori included, not by Dong Joo. It drives me nuts that they are going to forgive them. Forgiveness, especially for being as awful as he is, must be earned and he is not earning it any time soon.
I mean, Woori and Dong Joo even decided to put aside their feelings and break up to deal with the psycho and make him feel better. Whaaaaaaa? In what Universe?
Ugh. Die. As Creepy to Gloria is Maru to CYHMH. Well, I don't think he offed anyone a la Creepy but he certainly irritates me about the same.
( To make self feel less ragey, cute caps of OTP from ep 18 that I had around )

I am pretty much in awe of the inspired insanity of having Dong Joo and Woori pick a dance club as a place of communion of souls. He can't hear (she knows but doesn't let him know she does), she can but is the farthest from a nightclub hopper you can imagine. And yet it's perfect, because due to the noise, his deafness is hidden (nobody can hear anything in that place anyway) and she doesn't have to keep pretending not to know - she can act as if he can't hear (once again, even if he could, he couldn't hear her there). They are no different from anyone else there, then. And they are far away from anyone and anywhere they normally go. I love his awkward vulnerability when she drags him onto the dance floor and he just stands there, because of course he can't follow the music, and I love that he is still willing to go with her anyway. And I love her warmth and her utterly unabashed showing of affection (she never has a problem taking initiative) and how it solves all his insecurities as to whether she prefers Jun Ha to him without them having to say a word. I love how tender they are with each other, underneath their warm teasing, and how open and how it's almost as if he can't believe she is in his arms.
( Eight million caps - spoilers through ep 17 )
( Bonus scenes )
They are miles different from Yoon Sung and Nana, my other obsessed-over OTP, but I love them every inch as much. They are perfection.
And speaking of Yoon Sung and Nana. Check out this amazing shippy MV:

The only drama that can possibly rival City Hunter for the amount of space it occupies in my heart is the family/revenge/romance wonderfulness that is Can You Hear My Heart.
Yet, I find myself ten episodes (!!!!!!) behind. I think it's because not only does it demand a lot of concentration and time (I want my CYHMH uninterrupted with extra time for rewatching and capping, just as I do with CH) but also I find myself hoarding. Still, shame!
Have a MV of my main reason for love, the OTP of Woori and Dong Joo. In a drama with some dark themes, these two are remarkably sane and amazing, especially considering the trauma of their backgrounds.
Have another one:
I shall watch no other drama, except CH, until I am caught up :)
