Ugh, Maru/Jun Ha/whatever is the most self-absorbed, selfish, emo-whiny character ever.

He's caused major deliberate grief to (a) YJ, who is pretty close to an angel in human form and is an amazing Dad to Maru the Ungrateful (b) Woori - yeah, trying to break her up with Dong Joo and belittling it all is sucky, but trying to get her attention withholding info that he is Maru is another level of sick (c) Halmoni - the scene in ep 18/19 where he was such a f****** bastard to an old, ill lady and then left her there to have a fit? I want him to freaking fry (d) Dong Joo, who has been an amazing, selfless, loving brother to him - oh, when he kept throwing Dong Joo's disability in his face I WANTED TO STAB HIM! What kind of a psycho does that?

Ugh, go jump off a roof or something.

I know family dramas, guy is going to be redeemed or something but he really should not be forgiven - not by YJ and family, Woori included, not by Dong Joo. It drives me nuts that they are going to forgive them. Forgiveness, especially for being as awful as he is, must be earned and he is not earning it any time soon.

I mean, Woori and Dong Joo even decided to put aside their feelings and break up to deal with the psycho and make him feel better. Whaaaaaaa? In what Universe?

Ugh. Die. As Creepy to Gloria is Maru to CYHMH. Well, I don't think he offed anyone a la Creepy but he certainly irritates me about the same.

Whaaaaaaaaat? Nooooooooo!

I kept trying to see from Maru's point of view... to try and understand if his behaviour is redeemable in any way, but no... he really is just selfish. At this point. I'm starting episode 21 right now, but considering what you said, it's only going to get more awful by the minute. Yikes.

Lucky this is the last week, so we don't have to wait long and see the result. *crossing fingers OTP stays together*

Another thing: why do we have to pity him??? I really don't see anything pitiable.

Sure, he was poor and he was abandoned by his mother and father. But why does he have to be mad at the family who took care of him, when he was always so awful at them?
And I didn't get any romantic vibe from him towards Woori when then were young from the early episodes. Was that some behind-the-scenes thingies we're supposed to get? :/

Oh my poor Ma Ru. Not getting any love here 8-(

Okay - he's rather pitiable because every single parent figure in his life lied to him or abandoned him. Every.Single.One. I can forgive a 14 year old for being embarrassed by his father because frankly all 14 year olds are embarrassed by their parents. Had he stayed with the family, he'd have outgrown it, but emotionally he got stuck there.
He also feels guilty that his step mother, Woo Ri's mother, died going back to get something for him, when he had only shown her anger. Also, he feels that he abandoned them to a crappy life while he had it good, when the reality is that he bought his father's freedom for becoming a mental slave of DJ's Mom.

He made his peace with grandma pretty quickly, YG a little less quickly, and he ain't never forgiving his Ma, but he's slowly coming around and recovering from the shock of the whole set of lies his life was built on.

He's still pissed at DJ - not so much for the reason he keeps saying - that DJ had everything Ma Ru should have had - but more because he fears that DJ really doesn't "need" him as his "ears" - DJ doesn't, but he does love Ma Ru, which Ma Ru can't bring himself to believe. Hence all the lashing out about DJ's hearing - which as DJ says hurts more because it was Ma Ru who taught him how to deal with it.

Now, in the story, he fails to believe Dong Joo fast enough when told that getting out of Dodge and back to America is the best thing for him, because Dong Joo understands that his mother is nuts and using him (although not even DJ understood to what extent). DJ has had 16 years of being told by his mother that he is damaged goods, and incapable - if he hadn't had Ma Ru, he might have actually believed her poison, and for that I think DJ is eternally grateful.

As for the breaking up, I think only Seung Chul thinks that's for real. Essentially, the 2 of them are agreeing that Ma Ru has fallen down into a pit and since they both love him, their choice is that their priority is to try and save him, even from himself.

Oh, and about Warrior Baek Dong Soo - I'm a junkie for this type of thing - give me a swordwielding, long haired guy in black, and I'm half-way sold. 8-) It's clearly going down the manga styling road - to the point where it's almost b-movie campish. But OTOH, the same could be said for City Hunter - it's clearly in it's own manga world - but I'm eating that up with a spoon as well. 8-) At least give episode 1 and 2 a whirl, though. 8-)

I agree JH has reasons (this is a well-written drama and he didn't suddenly go insane) but while they explain, they do not excuse. His family and DJ have done nothing to deserve what he's done to them. A raw deal in life is no excuse to behave like an unmitigated a**hole to everyone (by that standard, DJ and his family should turn into monsters as their deal in life is way worse, yet they didn't).

I know it's not a real break-up but it doesn't matter - why should they put their happiness aside for however long because of Maru? If someone treated me the way he did, I'd just think 'one less wedding invite' and do my best to avoid him in the future, not bend over backwards to find something saveable.

I'm still stuck at around ep 24 (or sth...the one where Jun Ha threw Dong Joo's disability in his face), and am hoping Jun Ha is just putting on an act to make that devil-of-a-stepfather transfer all the shares to him, so he can return them to Dong Joo.

I hope.

I hope.

Because I hate to hate him!!! Gahhh...

Anyway, nice as Dong Joo and Woo Ri are, it's kind of stupid to break up for Jun Ha's sake. An evolved version of the Noble Idiot syndrome?

Not noble idiot, they agree it's temporary.

I don't think anything can break WR/DJ appart, they just naturally gravitate towards each other no matter what. And for the record, 'that' break was just for the show. I didn't even see it as one.

As for Ma Ru - I don't have any sympathy for him. He brought it all on himself. No-one forced him to leave his own family and beg to be included with Dong Joo's. Actually the only persons he is entiteld to feel anger/hatred towards are his bio parents and DJ's mom. The others have nothing what so ever to do with the giant chip on his shoulder. He does not deserve the love of DJ, WR and the rest.

How come DJ is the more mature of them even though he's younger? He's been awesome in the last few episodes (I'm caught up to ep 26 atm). I loved his last comment to MR in ep 26 because it's so true. OMG! I also love how sunny WR/DJ are together, they are like a ball of sunshine. ;P It's hard for even MR to rain on that, heh.

I'm catching up with CYHMH too. Currently on episode 24.

Woori and Dong Joo are SO CUTE and lovey-dovey! I can't get enough of watching them kiss or hug each other spontaneously, it's such a rare thing in dramas!

And Maru is such an ASS! But at least he kicked out his gold-digger mother!
