Youtube is the best thing ever! I just found the title song of Phantom of the Opera in Russian! Performed at a concert by two Russian pop singers (I guess that would be the term) at a concert. And one of them is Alexandr Malinin, who I am unhip enough to really really love.
OMG! Further cross-culture shock. Muslim Magomayev singing 'Love Story' in English! (His 60s song 'Beauty Queen' is one my faves):
In case you are wondering, I found Malinin singing his normal stuff on youtube. It's awesome.
I have no idea how it comes across, as the thing I like the most about Malinin's songs are the lyrics which are, obviously, in Russian.
I love this song. So romantic. And an awesome MV, like a mini period romantic movie. One I would totally watch:
A MV of "No way back." I really like it, even though I am not used to seeing him try to get the sexy thing on: (not that I am complainin' :D)
Probably one of his most famous song: "White Horse:"
A famous 19th century 'romans:'
And another one:
Another 'romans' from the same concert:
That's how you know he is a Russian singer. This is a song about an old beggar woman:
And since I am on a Russian song kick, here are some more songs, sung by Lev Leshenko, 1970s (???) singer. I am old-fashioned so I really like them as I grew up around them. Plus, I have a huge thing for WWII songs and some of them are.
Incredibly famous Russian song "Day of Victory" about the end of WWII (how famous? Everyone knew this song when I was growing up. You can see audience members singing along. actually listening to it makes me a kid again):
"And the fight proceeds:" (also for the 70s. Check out the hair). Oh, and this is a song about young Lenin:
Oh God, I love Soviet songs. I can't help it. I just got a whole bunch of burned CDs of them.
"Wings Swings:" (This is a song from my favorite movie when I was a child. "Adventures of Elektronik." Elektronik was a mechanical boy who got free. I should have known that would be a hint of my future type because he was totally not treated well and then escaped and was awesome:
OMG. "Chase" in 1972, asked by a 4th grader:
One of my favorite songs 'Prekrasnoye dalyoko' from the movie 'Visitoress (yeah, it's the feminine of visitor' from the future' based on a novel by a famous Russian YY and adul scifi author Kir Bulyichev. Gosh, I still love him, and I loved the movie and the song (the boy lead in this one gets tortured to protect the girl. Are we sensing a pattern in my fictional boyfriends from childhood.) I still sing this song all the time, and I remember singing it from childhood. I have so many associations with it and even my husband recognizes it. And they played it at our wedding.
Not a Soviet but a modern MV. I really like it.
OMG! Songs sung by Muslim Magomaev:
Svadba (Wedding), a really famous one:
Vyechnost (eternity):
Serenada (serenade):
Vozvrasheniye romansa (return of romance):
1960s song:
More:
Pro-Cuba song:
