Look what I found:

And also this:

Whoa, nellie! She isn't the succession, Yongzheng, you don't have to grab her quite this hard :P

Not in any eps that I've yet seen (in 4 eps I've seen, Four is nowhere near interested enough in her to do some dysfunctional kissing), but apparently interesting things are coming up!

1. First, just so that will be out in the open - every time Kevin Cheng comes on-screen, I have to resist the urge to make out with my laptop. Not good, self!!!

2. OMG, surely I wasn't the only one who noticed the look on Four's face when Kangxi was discussing Ruoxi's participation in the selections for the royal harem. He totally likes her!!! In his closed-off, 'will never admit it ever' way. Off to wallow in canon-shipping. I really had to eat every single misgiving I had about Nicky Wu in this role.

3. Currently, my front-runner uncanon ship for Ruoxi is Ruoxi/Thirteen in terms of plausibility. They are ridiculously compatible and are total bffs. I know the drama only wants us to see them as friends but then they shouldn't have cast Yuan Hong as Thirteen. I am not a Liu Shi Shi/Yuan Hong RPShipper because I don't really RPShip, but there is no denying that their on-screen chemistry has always been utterly ridiculous. I keep wondering when they will go off to have hot sexy sex against the wall while being worshipful and adoring at the same time. I think Eight and Ruoxi have lovely chemistry (honestly, the chemistry between the entire cast is insane - I just keep expecting a giant orgy), but I am too firmly on Eight/Ruolan ship for that to be my default.

4. Speaking of Eight/Ruolan, why don't you just tear out my heart and feed it to me, drama? That scene after the horse-riding competition was one of the most painful, awful things I've seen in a long time! He just loves her so freaking much and is just begging for her to give him a chance and she is so passively cold. (But is it just me - she totally looks like she wants to give in, which makes her feel guiltier and thus colder). They are both in so much pain. I just want to shake her and tell her to snap out of it - I get it that it sucks that she was not allowed to marry her lover who was sent to the front lines and died, and I get that she feels guilty because he was only sent to the front lines because of her but!!!!!!! It's not as if she's been married for a month. They have clearly been married for years and honestly, it's time to let go, you can't spend your whole life as if you were dead, especially since IMO it's clear she wants to come out of the darkness. Except that is the thing - I think she feels guilty and that it would be a betrayal to enjoy her life when he is dead so she sort of feels the unrelenting misery is her duty. Argh. I get the sense that, parodoxically, she keeps Eight at bay precisely because she could be happy with him. But yeah, when he kept looking at her doing those riding stunts with his heart in his eyes, it was awful.

5. Speaking of uncanon ships, ummmm, I ship Thirteen/Lu Wu, the prostitute/courtesan who is his drinking companion. I want them together so badly, it hurts. (As opposed to Thirteen/Ruoxi where I love their chemistry but I don't really genuinely ship them in the sense that I am emotionally invested in the outcome). GRRR. Chances of that happening are totally zero. I don't mean the chances of them hooking up because she is a courtesan so it may very well happen (though I get the sense he only wants her as a drinking/talking friend, nothing else) but long-term romantic relationship. Argh, I need that so badly and will be denied, I am sure. Hmmm, actually, currently I like Thirteen the best out of all the princes in general.

Have a Four/Ruoxi MV:

I am fangirling Emperor Yongzheng. That's not right.

For those who prefer Ruoxi with Eight (like me, sometimes. I am so undecided):

I am in the middle of ep 6, and Eight's memory of the first time he saw Ruolan and fell in love at first sight with the idea of her - it broke my heart (so much disaster could be avoided if people were able to talk before marriage, honestly). I think he is transferring his feelings to Ruoxi because she makes him think of the way Ruolan was (I am sure that is exascerbated because everyone says how alike Ruolan and Ruoxi look). Oh man, this is a total clusterfuck. I feel beyond dreadful for Eight but Ruoxi deserves to be loved for herself and not for being like someone else unattainable...

Another standout was the scene when Ruoxi went drinking with Thirteen and Lu Wu and they bumped into Fourteen and his loutish followers who were insulting Lu Wu (basically calling her a whore and saying that now they know why she puts on too many airs for a prostitute - because she has Thirteen as one of her clients) and Ruoxi tore into them. And then when Fourteen tried to shame her for being friends with a hooker, she told him that a prostitute can be a virtuous woman too. YESSSS.

Also, I loved loved loved this scene in Relics of an Emissary. Spoiled Princess is kinda awesome - she refused to save herself by ditching wounded Hot Period Cop, and tried to piggy-back him (!!!) and then when he let go of her hand so as to give her more of a chance to escape, she went back and found him down at the bottom of the hill and made a makeshift stretcher and basically refused to give up until they were found. Go, spoiled but awesome princess! I loved even more that Hot Period Cop's way to thank her was to buy her a hidden weapon and teach her self-defense. They are adorable!.

Fair warning: while I watch kdramas the most, I go through fits where all I want to do is watch j/tw/cdramas for a while. I believe a cdrama fit is upon me.

Anyway, if you, like me, got obsessed with Kevin Cheng after tuning in to BBJX or you like him (or pretty period pieces) in general, you might view the upcoming Mystery in the Palace as manna from heaven. Or an AU involving Eight in which he gets a girl and doesn't gruesomely die.

Yes, whether because he became enamoured of the Qing hairstyle (which he is one of few men I've seen pull off) and was loath to give it up or for some other reason, Kevin Cheng stars in another Qing era drama, the upcoming Mystery of the Palace. I don't know much about the plot, but I do know he doesn't play any of the princes, which makes me hope for at least a possibility of this not being a top-to-bottom angstfest. [livejournal.com profile] hanjae (I believe) told me his character is in love with Kang Xi's bastard daughter. So yes, definitely not one of the princes unless this drama is going to be a lot weirder than I thought.

So yes, vvvvv excited. Especially since I seem to have fallen madly with Qing style for clothes, hair ornaments etc (minus the braid, though I believe I've watched enough of that to slowly become immune and even brainwashed that is can be attractive. Send help!)

Have some gorgeous caps )

I am hoping this will be more lighthearted and less of the 'rocks fall and everyone dies. Then are all resurrected to be painfully murdered again' variety.
