Watching the remake of You're Beautiful, i.e. Ikemen Desu Ne has put me in the mind to rewatch the original and ummmmm ummmmmm ummmmmmm I now have a ridiculous crush on Jang Geun Seok's Tae Kyung and am actually adoring the drama to bits help help help I must be having a brain aneurism.

I think it really helps that I know what to expect (adorablness, shippiness, awesome soundtrack) and what not to expect (deep angst, tight plot, fakecest - I was so sure it would have fakecest, when I watched it the first time around).

OMG.

Haha welcome to life, i totally dled it just to laugh at it and then I ended up with a bit of a crush on tae kyung and his prissy self. mostly i just find him fun to look at. i wasnt crazy about mi nam but she was okay. shin woo i hated and i thought jeremy was adorable! its such a crazy show, i really wonder how the idea of a nun joining an idol band dressed as a boy, comes into someone's heads.

I always find that crack!tastic dramas that are survive mostly on the OTP (You're Beautiful, Mary, Personal Taste) are always better on a rewatch, because you know it's not deep. You're just in it for the OTP and the fun. Give it and enjoy.

Well, Jang Geun Seok is the best part of that drama, hands down. I am a huge Yonghwa fangirl and even I like Hwang Tae Kyung best. But it's still true that this is a hugely misogynist drama despite it's surface charm. We must never forget that even when we are giddy over TK's pigrabbit hilarity. I'm still side-eyeing the Hong Sisters for this.

Eh, how is it misogynist? I've always wondered at that. Go Mi Nam may not be the brightest thing on legs, but she has goals and plans for her life that doesn't include guys. (Unlike the Japanese version, which has Mio fantasizing about marriage.)

Although she has to be saved by TK, she saves him as well, and is a wonderful support to him.

i really liked YAB for the first time i watched, mostly because i was searching for some mindless fun and i got what i wanted. but weirdly enough i was often annoyed by go minam/mineyo. i enjoyed minam better with shinwoo than with tae kyung. but my favorite part of the drama was:



for some reason i really loved yoo he yi. she was out evil lady but she wasn’t exactly that evil, plus i couldn't help but find her incredible endearing.

if the hong sister did work on a sequel i think that the bets character to use would be a spin off with either yoo he yi or jeremy.

I have another fantasy : YAB meets Gumiho ... secondary chars in YAB with secondary chars in GuMiho Evil with Evilest :P I'd like to see her face when she lies Liar Liar pants on fire Foxy Hunter ... Liar with Master Liar... maybe a special a la jdramas when they give fans after a year or 2 at least one episode of their fav drama

btw UEE plays with Joo Won (MaJun of Baker King) in Ojakgyo brothers ... I wonder if drama will give me smart against smarter I need that, somehow I want them smart and cunning and a bit evil - it was in Tree Brothers with handsome prosecutor from City Hunter and it was so fun to watch for 30 episodes or so until the mother in law entered in the scenes


in Ikemen Desu Ne jShinWoo is cuter but more robotic than kShinWoo, Jeremy... ohhh no one beats HongKi at cuteness and weirdness and naive faces when fantasizes about Minam - errrm the jversion doesn't look near as handsome as HongKi

at that time they told about YongHwa or HongKi they can't act, but the jversion aren't Oscar material either and above all they try to make Ren exactly the same TaeKyung JGS gave us. Indeed Ren is prettier, he is an idol himself... but both male leads don't have the same charisma that JGS or JYH have .... I didn't thought I will live the day to tell that JGS is even more manlier than Ren :D

LOL! Never say never, eh? I didn't expect much of YAB save to be entertained and I got that, mostly. I still don't think the 2nd half is up to the beginning though, something got lost along the way. But JGS was rather epic as Tae Kyung even if that type tends to irritat me no end.

In older Hong Sisters dramas, I always preferred the second half because that is where intensity and conflict came in, but agreed, YAB was missing it. Still, a delightful trifle.

Gaaaahhhh! I have to leave for the day so I'll answer your CH messages properly later but I just had to comment when I saw this!

The Japanese remake made me want to rewatch the original as well. I've seen it loads of times but I still laugh like a crazy person at some of the scenes. I'm up to episode 12 and will watch the last 4 soon.

Just a rec if you do indeed buy the dvds....I don't know if it's still available because it was a limited edition but the special edition is actually a director's cut with 2 hours of new footage incorporated into the episodes. Maybe it's available used or something?

But yes, so funny and adorable and love. I had to eat all my words honestly, my main issues with it, in restorspect, were the fandom wars (which is not the drama's fault) and the fact that I was expecting another Hong Gil Dong or at least My Girl and we obviously did not get those level of conflict or angst (I thought they were going to go for fakecest tbh) so I was disappointed but, once again, not the drama's fault, it's not as if it had false advertising.

YAB is the kind of drama that makes you curse yourself as you marathon and giggle your way through each episode!

My favorite scene of all was the "pig chasing Tae Kyung". SO HILARIOUbetS! XD

You know what? I bet that if you tried watching "My Girlfriend is a Gumiho" again, you'd be TOTALLY HOOKED! You would love it!
