dangermousie: (HXM2 by kycoo)

I was browsing Doremii's upcoming projects list to see if there was anything I should be keeping my eye on and found out that An Xiang (i.e. Dark Fragrance) is on their 'on-coming projects' list.

!!!!!

The reason for my obsessive excitement is simple - An Xiang's leading man is Huang Xiaoming, my biggest Mainland crush (together with Hu Ge and Yuan Hong, it's sort of a hormonal trinity of mine :P). But being Mainland, any of his dramas are freaking hard to find subbed.

Not to mention that even if not for HXM factor, the plot of this sounds so ridiculously my thing, it's insane: The story centers around Cheng Yuan (HXM), the fourth generation heir to the rich and powerful Cheng family based in Southeast Asia. After pursuing studies in the United States, Yuan is on his way back home to attend his father's funeral and to make plans for his own marriage, when he meets a couple of Chinese travelers. The man, Li Ke Jin, is wrongly arrested for possession of marijuana, and the woman, Wu Yue, pleads with Yuan to save him. Already deep in the chaos and conflicts of his family and the future of their empire following the death of his father, Yuan agrees under some conditions. He will help Wu Yue free Li Ke Jin if she helps him avoid marriage by pretending to be his girlfriend. However, as the two play the happy couple, Wu Yue becomes a target for the feuding family and two things are propelled into danger... their hearts and their lives.

I mean! Fake lovers who fall in love for real. Be still my heart!

If you are not convinced yet by my excitement, I dare you to defy the adorableness of this MV:

What with this, Hu Ge's Bitter Coffee, and Coming Lies (a drama where Dylan Kuo is a conman conned out of his heart by Terri Kwan and the subs for which I have been searching everywhere for years) all on their upcoming list, doremii is my favorite subbing group atm.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] kycoo, weren't you watching this last year? *off to browse your LJ*

LOL. I like my real relationships healthy and my fictional ones screwed-up.

Oh screwed up relationships can be very entertaining. I agree with you there.

It just strikes me as a bit of a double standard. I mean if a male character pulled a knife on a female protagonist and came so close to cutting her throat, the rest of the series or movie would be about her getting away from him. But from what little I've seen of Dark Fragrance (mostly clips and series of pictures) he's constantly going back to and/or looking after her. I don't know the exact context of the knife scene but it looked abusive to me.

Don't get me wrong. I'm just another girl with a crush on Haung Xiao Ming who is of the opinion that anyone who would do that face or anything else of him an injury must be an insane sadist.

I haven't seen the drama so I can't speak as to whether this makes sense in context.

I do agree with you that "anyone who would do that face or anything else of him an injury must be an insane sadist." Indeed.

Actually I do have a question/comment for you. It's been on my mind for a while and I haven't been able to find anyone to pose it to because while Huang Xiao Ming is better known in the English-speaking world than a lot of Asian actors, it's still a little hard to find a fan who speaks my language.

Is it just me, or does he do the sick/injured/vulnerability thing almost surreally well? I don't know if you've seen The Message? He plays this villainous Japanese Colonel who for some reason for the first hour or so in has a head cold. There was a scene where he and some cronies were entering a basement where someone was being tortured and the thought that floated unbidden through my mind was "looks damp down there. Should he be...oh right! Torture. Never mind."

And this was one of the first things I saw with him in. I didn't even really have a crush on him yet.

Of course it's more pronounced when he's the hero of the piece.

I've dubbed it the "not fair" factor.

I think so too. I always want to look away and make it all better.
