I was browsing Doremii's upcoming projects list to see if there was anything I should be keeping my eye on and found out that An Xiang (i.e. Dark Fragrance) is on their 'on-coming projects' list.
!!!!!
The reason for my obsessive excitement is simple - An Xiang's leading man is Huang Xiaoming, my biggest Mainland crush (together with Hu Ge and Yuan Hong, it's sort of a hormonal trinity of mine :P). But being Mainland, any of his dramas are freaking hard to find subbed.
Not to mention that even if not for HXM factor, the plot of this sounds so ridiculously my thing, it's insane: The story centers around Cheng Yuan (HXM), the fourth generation heir to the rich and powerful Cheng family based in Southeast Asia. After pursuing studies in the United States, Yuan is on his way back home to attend his father's funeral and to make plans for his own marriage, when he meets a couple of Chinese travelers. The man, Li Ke Jin, is wrongly arrested for possession of marijuana, and the woman, Wu Yue, pleads with Yuan to save him. Already deep in the chaos and conflicts of his family and the future of their empire following the death of his father, Yuan agrees under some conditions. He will help Wu Yue free Li Ke Jin if she helps him avoid marriage by pretending to be his girlfriend. However, as the two play the happy couple, Wu Yue becomes a target for the feuding family and two things are propelled into danger... their hearts and their lives.
I mean! Fake lovers who fall in love for real. Be still my heart!
If you are not convinced yet by my excitement, I dare you to defy the adorableness of this MV:
What with this, Hu Ge's Bitter Coffee, and Coming Lies (a drama where Dylan Kuo is a conman conned out of his heart by Terri Kwan and the subs for which I have been searching everywhere for years) all on their upcoming list, doremii is my favorite subbing group atm.

Date: 2010-07-16 06:46 am (UTC)I'm thrilled that Doremii is subbing this -- Huang Xiaoming does a very solid job with the acting and his character Cheng Yuan is really cute (and kind of silly at times :P). Plus he wears a lot of suits and button-down shirts, and everyone knows how hot he looks in those. ♥ (He and Hu Ge need to be in more modern dramas.)
Also, I think his costar, Wang Luodan (she plays Wu Yue), is really pretty (not in a Liu Yifei kind of pretty, but cute and vibrant in her own way), besides being a really good actress (though I don't like her voice very much). Her character can be kind of annoying, but it's fun to see her and Cheng Yuan argue. Hee.
Sorry if I sound kind of infuriated in my later posts about this drama... let's just say I'm not a big fan of the amnesia/incurable illness plot points. :\ Especially at such a late point in the drama.
btw, you can find a recap of the first two episodes on Cfensi. It's not much too judge from, because HXM is playing a different character (Cheng Yuan's ancestor), but the recap is informative and funny and gives you a good explanation of Cheng Yuan's family's past. :)
And uh, sorry for rambling. Haha. I'm just excited that this drama might get a wider audience. Its AF page is tiny. e_e; Yay for Doremii!
I love your rambling!

I really loved your posts about it - they were fun to read :) (And unlike you, I adore amnesia plot point so yay :P)

Date: 2010-07-16 01:51 pm (UTC)The plot is totally my favourite kind of drama!!! (It's so very trashy-period-romance-novel, isn't it!! hahaha)
Totally OT, but I'm so obsessed with White Collar that I cannot watch anything else at the moment!!!
I think USA network has great dramas btw.....smart, interesting, and heavy on the bromance!

Date: 2010-07-16 07:20 pm (UTC)The writing for this one is a load of crap, and it drags and drags but HXM is impossibly handsome. I'm not a fangirl of HXM's acting, he's all over the place in this one as usual, trying too hard even for HXM. Wong Luodan is a decent actress, but her character is ridiculous.

Date: 2011-02-18 05:30 am (UTC)It just strikes me as a bit of a double standard. I mean if a male character pulled a knife on a female protagonist and came so close to cutting her throat, the rest of the series or movie would be about her getting away from him. But from what little I've seen of Dark Fragrance (mostly clips and series of pictures) he's constantly going back to and/or looking after her. I don't know the exact context of the knife scene but it looked abusive to me.
Don't get me wrong. I'm just another girl with a crush on Haung Xiao Ming who is of the opinion that anyone who would do that face or anything else of him an injury must be an insane sadist.

Date: 2011-02-18 01:41 pm (UTC)I do agree with you that "anyone who would do that face or anything else of him an injury must be an insane sadist." Indeed.
Re: Ummm...
Date: 2011-02-18 02:59 pm (UTC)Is it just me, or does he do the sick/injured/vulnerability thing almost surreally well? I don't know if you've seen The Message? He plays this villainous Japanese Colonel who for some reason for the first hour or so in has a head cold. There was a scene where he and some cronies were entering a basement where someone was being tortured and the thought that floated unbidden through my mind was "looks damp down there. Should he be...oh right! Torture. Never mind."
And this was one of the first things I saw with him in. I didn't even really have a crush on him yet.
Of course it's more pronounced when he's the hero of the piece.
I've dubbed it the "not fair" factor.
