I hate the word ‘magyk’ even more than the word ‘shoppe.’ Fake-rustic-cutesy and makes me think of pretentious people who need a spell-check.

And I have read up on Gantz anime and it sounds fantastic, must watch. It’s a 26-episode anime about a number of people who are transported at the moment of their death to an enclosed room and are forced to participate in a Battle Royale type game. It centers around Kei Kurono, who died with his best friend, after they attempted to save a hobo from train tracks.

I have also read the first volume of Tenshi Ja Nai!! and not sure what to think of it. The heroine goes to an all-girls school but her roomie is a boy in drag (and I assume eventual bf). It lostme though because in order to make her keep the secret he took a hidden topless pic of her. I don't care if he is cross-dressing to earn $$$ for his comatose father's medical bills. He lost me from then on. Oh well.

I have one post I want your opinion on...actually, I just want you to look at the pics and tell me if I'm alone in thinking Mansairaku in Otogi Zoshi looks kinda like Toya in Ceres. *has been dying to get someone's opinion on that for AGES and always forgets to ask*

I was in the W Juliet frame of mind, so when I got to that part I imagined Mako's reaction. Or Ito's twin brothers were someone to do that to her. It doesn't matter what the TjN guy looked like, cuz then he was a bloody pulp. *both families run martial arts dojo's and all three have the overprotective brother bit down-Mako has 2 older sisters*

I'm actually really glad you posted about it, because I've(obviously) been missing W Juliet a lot since it wrapped up, and the initial setup is similiar enough that I likely would have flipped through it and got it and then had the same reaction...Then had W Juliet guys reaction fantasies. Because I do things like that.

I wouldn't give up on Tenshi ja Nai just yet. At least read volume two before you write it off. It does have certain similarities with W Juliet (one of my top 5 favorite manga) in the cross-dressing guy. But in a lot of other ways I think it bears a closer resemblance to Kurosagi (read volume 2 & you'll understand).

I had an interesting discussion with a friend at the Cult of the Romance Junkies forum regarding Izumi's behavior.

Me: I can see why he did the picture thing but, us knowing Hikaru as we do, it was way overboard. Then he has her tie his hands so she'll feel comfortable sleeping in the same room as him but as soon as he needs to get information out of her he abuses that slender trust by attacking her again! Baka!

LKK: But he acts like an irresponsible (or should I say not thinking about the consequences of his actions?) teenage boy at times. It drives home the fact that underneath that dress and wig is a teenage boy. Also, I think Izumi's situation has something do with it. (discussion continues but is too spoilery to post)

Me: I agree. Before we learned his story I thought at times he was too "wussy" & hot-tempered. But after we know his history you have to really admire him.

I actually read vols 1, 3-6 (2 was out). I found out about his father (if that is what you mean) and trying to kill himself and Isuzu, but the thing is, I am still not warmed up to him, even after 6 volumes. I just...I don't know. He doesn't work for me (not because he's unrealistic, but he just doesn't grab me). And the heroine is a bit too nice. I'd have broken his head :)

I think she's a ditz. 100% totally blonde. He kisses her & she never wonders what the heck that means?! She walks into anything without batting an eye. And she's got 0 self confidence.

But she's so strong when it comes to standing up for what's right or protecting those who matter to her.

And I love how it infuriates him how clueless she is. How he can't understand why he chose her.

It's not one of my favorite manga by any means. But it's sweet & got those classic, hot guy coming to the rescue, scenes.
