So, I tried Dawson's Creek.

My thoughts?

1. OMG. They are all scarily blond and WASPy and they have a token Black person who is wonderful and it's a scary scary place.

2. Dawson. Is. Gay. Wincest? No, don't see it. Angel/Spike? Not my cup of tea. Mal and Simon playing doctor? No way. But Dawson is gay gay gay gay GAY. Thus giving Katie Holmes plenty of practice as a beard. He wears little vests, he self-analyzes his feelings to a degree not even a woman does and he likes Katie Couric. He is primetime TV gay cliche. If he was any gayer, he'd be leading the Pride parade instead of participating in it. I am all for it, because talk about unattractive.

3. In other Dawson news. Shut the HELL up. He never stops talking. Ever. I want to ductape his mouth permanently. Also, his topic of conversation? Himself. You are NOT fascinating, Dawson. Stop inflicting your self-absorption on the world. And stop seeing everything through a detached movie lens. You are not Woody Allen. You are snotty and annoying 15, even if you look like a post-doctoral student with a weakness for hair products.

4. Pacey needs to lay off the crack. And the English teacher. He is making the woman risk jail time. Go jerk off to the Internet like any other 15 year old and stop making others commit felonies. Also, his whole "I am 15 and thus jailbait" routine isn't working so well because he looks like a very old 25.

5. Katie Holmes. Mrs. "So I married a crazy cult member" Cruise. She is so wholesome I want to drown her in pancake batter. But only after feeding her some of it first. Gosh, she is skinny.

6. Michelle Williams making out with Dawson? Considering point number 2, this is definitely a trial run for Brokeback Mountain.

Overall fun, if not in the way the makers intended.

That? Is Dawson in a nutshell. How long did it take you? 30 seconds? 45? I'm just intrigued cause I would have gotten read of Dawson and named the thing Pacey's Creek. and been a lot happier about the relative amounts of screen time as a result.
DON'T BE MEAN ABOUT PACEY! Heh. I'd have risked jail time for him. It takes two to tango after all.

About half an ep. Re: pacey. Yeah, the teacher was at fault 50% but he was at fault for the other half :)

It's the shit you like at 12 yrs old when teenage romance is all your heart could desire. I fangirled DC at that age. But pretty soon I realized it sucks, a lot. Even back when I liked it, me and my friends who watched it, agreed that NOBODY TALKS LIKE THAT. And it's so pretentious and omg, I want to stab Katie Holmes in the ace in this show.

Oddly enough, I hated Michelle Williams in this show. It may have been because she could act.

THAT? Was funny. What a hilarious "where are they now" reunion THIS show is going to have: Katie "Havin' an Alien Baby" Holmes, Michelle "I've Actually Got More Clout than All of You Now" Williams, Joshua "Let's Forget About that Skulls Movie I Made" Jackson, and James "What Career" Vanderbeek.

Thanks! I would pay good money to watch the reunion.

I haven't seen all Dawson Creek. They used to air the series during summer season (now they do the same with Gilmore Girls) so I could't really follow the series.

My favorite character was Pacey because I think Joshua Jackson is hot, period.

I think it's either on TBS or TNT or some other similar channel during weekday mornings. I always see it listed on the TV Guide Channel around 9 AM CST.

Incredibly, I never did run into this show. I've never seen a single episode of it. Looks like I didn't miss much, though.

You gotta understand the place and time, to. Early WB. 90210 was still the mold. Kevin Williamson fresh off his Scream triumph (IIRC) and it was...well, raunchy and different. Today, with a thousand WB nightime soaps coming after, and the snark and self referential air of the Roswells and the One Tree Hills and every other show that's now a cliche...it was one of the first. And for its time, it was relatively groundbreaking.

Which doesn't mean it wasn't pretentious crap a lot of the time, ESPECIALLY after season 2, but man, I have a fondness for the show.

And Dawson? So totally a closet case, in retrospect.

I guess. The thing is, I liked Roswell a lot, but it had a whole bunch of supernatural stuff going for it. I think I am just too old for DC...

I have to second what Kate said about time and place. I remember watching the first and some of the second season of DC. They would air it, in the beginning, right before/after Buffy. I watched because the kids on the show were exactly like the kids in my social set, and yes, they really did talk that way. Of course, they were the AP-class taking, Honor/Music Honor Society member, Theater kids so that might have had something to do with it. ;)

As an Ap-class taking, National Honor society member, and theater kid, I take offense to this. :) No, not really. But in our defense only the kids from Society Hill still talk like that.

Yes, there actually is a neighborhood called Society Hill where I live.

yeah, but what did you *really* think? ::snicker::

and yes, if think i said basically the same stuff (without reference to cult marrying or brokeback mountain) when i catched the airing of the pilot looooo, so many years ago. i think we made it to the second commercial break before everyone decided to change the channel because of my continuous stream of snark had ruined it.

Just wait. Dawson actually turns down sex with a girl on top of him in a later season because he wants his first time to be "special" or some such nonsense, which prompted my older brother to comment that he is totally 100% no arguments gay. As Xander so aptly said, "I'm a 17 year old guy. Looking at linoleum makes me want to have sex."

Give Pacey some slack. Once he grows out of the unfortunate hairdo and ridiculous plot, he becomes awesome. Best part of the show, IMO.

I give you points for bravery for attempting to watch DC as an adult, because it is *so* a crappy teen/ preteen show. I remember the show being better in seasons 2,3 and 4, though. The first year was just baaad. It was on right after Buffy season 2, which made it seem even worse. Funnily enough, both finales used Sarah McLachlan and it was just like... no DC. You should not even attempt the drama after that brilliance. You will fail.

FYI, if you care, I found a decent Everwood primer (if you ignore the bad grammar): http://wheresbed.livejournal.com/70027.html?view=360843

Thanks re: Primer!

And re: Dawson. So so SO gay.

I like Pacey. The only one I don't want to stab with a rusty fork.

That's a bit scary.
I downloaded episodes of Young Americans, thinking it was actually a show about gay, hot young men only to discover that these shows are about homoeroticism, not openly gay teenagers.
Imagine my disappointment. Still, it's kind of scary that the homoeroticism is rampant enough for me to form that misconception.

LOL! I was such a Dawson/Joey shipper at the beginning... *hides* It changed afterwards. ;) Dawson, gay? LOL! In retrospect, you're completely right. I completely lost interest in the show around the third/fourth season and I only watched some episodes afterwards just to see if my ship would sail again. ;)

I watched one episode of Dawsons' Creek and was all "What teenager talks like that?". Then I was all "hang on, who at all talks like that?"

Katie Holmes' facial mannerisms really get to me too.
