Saw Mr&Mrs Smith with [livejournal.com profile] katranna yesterday. The movie goes strictly into the "meh" category. Amoral people killing while looking beautiful is dull. Having characters you can't connect with or find interesting is duller. Also, I kept wondering where was the police in all these gunfights. Ehhhhh...

My summary:

ANGELINA: Hi! I am able to kill people while pouting and fake-cooking dinner for my husband. Go me! *puts on vinyl that miraculously doesn't squeak*
STRAGHT GIRLS IN AUDIENCE: We think we are turning gay....
BRAD: Hi! I am able to kill people while looking like Brad Pitt. *takes off shirt*
STRAIGHT MEN IN THE AUDIENCE: We think we are turning gay....
BRAD AND ANGIE: We have been married for a bit and now we are so bored we don't even have sex even though we are so hot we can spontaneously combust
PRODUCERS: That's called "suspension of disbelief," people
BRAD AND ANGIE: Oh, no! My spouse is a spy. I will eliminate them *they have the most violent foreplay ever and fall passionately into bed*
AUDIENCE: No wonder they didn't get much sex. The foreplay looks exhausting and bad for the furniture.
BRAD AND ANGIE: Now we are on the run from our respective agencies and we blow up more stuff than a nuclear bomb yet somehow the cops never show up.
STUFF: Blows up
BRAD AND ANGIE: And now we are happily married yet again and are shagging like cats in heat.
AUDIENCE: Director's cut where we can see every uber-hot disgusting detail, please!

Speaking of "meh:" this is how Eragon continues. The author apparently never heard of "show don't tell." Next time I'll read something not written by a 15 year old.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] katranna and I had a lovely discussion about fanfic things we hate (post coming up later) and she showed me a French version of a Rouroni Kenshin manga which amused me mightily for some weird reason (as I don't speak French). Somehow I can't imagine 19th century Japanese wanderer fluently chatting in French.

It was very meh. It also made no sense, because they killed all the people sent to kill them, but what about the people that sent the people? They still wanted to kill Mr. and Mrs. Smith. What the hell, they looked pretty anyway.
BTW, I saw Batman Begins yesterday.

What did you think of BB?

Thoughts on Batman Begins.

I thought it started off a little heavily, and I spent a good fifteen minutes confused, but then I kind of got it and began really enjoying it. I loved seeing how everything developed, and for the first time I liked Gary Oldman. I felt that it was a bit like Star Wars ROTS in some ways, just with tying together all the lose ends. I loved the Dr. Crane, was it?, and imdb'd him later. I also liked how even though it was black, I could see everything. I hate movies where you have no idea what's going on because the lighting sucks.
My only real main complaint was Katie Holmes. She added nothing to the movie, and was completely wrong for Bruce Wayne. I didn't bother to learn her characters name.

Also, I saw this during my graduation.

Cillian Murphy was wonderful as Crane. For someone so pretty, he had the creepy thing down pat.

icon! *dies*

Yes, he was really creepy. For those who watch Battlestar Galactica, he actually gave off a Dr. Baltar vibe: intellectual creep.

I'm quite fond of my icon as well. Nothing like a good arm shot. Except maybe a good chest shot. But beggars can't be choosers.

Intellectual creepy is sometimes worse than normal creepy to me because you just don't know whether to trust them or not and when done right it's just sort of unsettling.

Hmmm, that showe pic is begging to be turned into an icon...

Adds a whole new layer of smarm.

Katie Holmes was horrible. Glad they are dropping her from sequel.

Need to see angsty Christian the movie again

Yeah, the movie was the definition of forgettable, but it had Angelina Jolie in vinyl (that didn't squeak!).

I might not remember half of its plot points (today I woke up and realized I couldn't remember its ending!) but I firmly remember all the instances of partially-dressed Angelina. :-P
I just hope Brad Pitt made it woth your while, but I gather not so much.

Somehow I can't imagine 19th century Japanese wanderer fluently chatting in French.

Ah, but the french makes it even better! Especially when we get to the less formal charcters, and they speak in french slang!

Merde! Mon petit chou! :)

Yeah, Brad was OK eye candy in it. I didn't mind seeing it...

And here I thought spies were supposed to be plain looking and able to go through crowds of people without being noticed. It seems I was wrong all along and spies need to be the most beautiful people in the world that everyone nearly gets whiplash turning around to see when they walk into a room. THAT'S what the CIA's trouble has been all this time!

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Exactly! Because they will blind you with their beauty and you won't remember their name from your brain being cooked by their hotness.

The guy in your icon looks very Harry Potterish.

"I'm sorry officer, they were so pretty I just can't describe it" *weeps*

His name is Ishida and if Harry Potter in book 5 were more taciturn and even more sarcastic, he would be Ishida. Ishida will probably end up as a bishounen of the day one of these times.

They're not actually spies, they're just paid assassins. :-P

Though that still doesn't help with the recognizability factor.

And Masha didn't mention that Angelina's character works in a company of all-gorgeous, all-female assassins (whose names all start with J).

Sort of like the Bond villainess'/gf's pilot squad in one of the Bond movies. Huh.

STRAGHT GIRLS IN AUDIENCE: We think we are turning gay....

Bwahahah! This is so true. My (extremely straight) sister saw this movie and says she was drooling just as much over Angelina as she was Brad. Then again, she's been at the top of my sister's "girl-crush" list for a while.

Now I'm gonna see that movie and be thinking of that summary. LMAO

Was Adam Brody hot anyway?

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
I've never seen him in anything before (he's on the OC, right?) More dorky, then hot, at least compared to B&A duo of hotness. His role is pretty small anyway.

I thought he was pretty cute.

Oh my gosh, are you kidding me? I'd totally take Adam Brody over Brad Pitt any day of the week!
