I've been thinking: I see people (understandably) freaking out about the writers' strike, and I realized that I completely don't care.

I mean, I will be sad if Battlestar Galactica doesn't get to finish its story, but it's been so long since S3, that I am sort of used to being Galactica-less. And I will be sad if Moonlight doesn't get its chance to continue, because it's the first new American show I've been interested in, in years, but I will be happy with what we have, and in any event, American shows don't really have a unitary arc so I won't feel left in mid-story. And I can't think of any upcoming movies I would die not to see, except for the ones already finished and thus the strike is immaterial to them.

Now, if e.g. Korean/Japanese/Taiwanese TV industry went on strike, I think I would have a nervous breakdown. I mean, I need to know how Hong Gil Dong will go from a ne'er-do-well of flashback to the awesome rebel of the present. I need to see Kame fall in love with a nun. I must find out how Lee Da Hae and her moppet will melt Jan Hyuk's cold crook's heart (and handsome exterior). I must must MUST participate in further developments of Zhi Shu and Xiang Qin's marriage.

Not to mention that Saiunkoku Monogatari must go on. And the Hanadan movie come out. And I am dying for Cain and Abel to start.

If Bollywood went on strike...you are kidding, right? Half of these movies feel like they have no scripts anyway :D But I would totally weep if it meant further delay of Jodhaa-Akbar, or Karan's upcoming project, or Aamir's Gajini, etc etc.

Hmmm.

That's pretty much my opinion. The ones I care about are largely episodic(Bones, Numb3rs, etc) or completed but I just don't have them all yet(Stargate SG-1, Farscape, etc.) The only real exceptions are Supernatural and Avatar.

And hey, with the asian industry, there are about 50 bajillion subbed ones neither of us have seen yet, so we wouldn't need to worry much. Plus, at least they tend to be completely scripted before airing(except the long Korean historicals, like Lee Seo Jin's current series.)

That's true. Provided the ones that are currently running would be able to finish in peace, I think it will take me through 2010 to catch up with all the subbed dramas I want that I haven't seen yet.

I didn't realize they were completely scripted in advance. Neat!

Ahhh...LSJ.

It's what I've been told about a lot of them, specifically jdramas and twdramas. kdramas...I think some are, but I also know that not all(Jumong and Goong, specifically) are. Wuxias are 100% done before any episode sees the light of day, I know that, and I think that's true of all cdramas.

I think if the British writers did it, I would be very upset, but the US? I can definitely cope. A lot of shows are going to be "half-seasons" which I think is the dumbest thing ever. I'd rather not have a season at all, if they are only going to show you half of it and make you wait another year for the other half. You know they will eventually start back again, so it is only time, not NO PRODUCTION at all in lots of cases.

Ehhh, for some shows, half a season with a random cliffhanger is basically the same as full season with cliffhanger. Only less eps :)

I want my Doctor Who on time, though but it's British :)

I care more about the people and the issues involved in the strike that about the fact that some of my shows have been interrupted. I'm just very political and pro-labor in almost every case. I believe that every one is entitled to a fair contract and fair compensation for their work. now, I might have felt differently if it weren't for the fact that my favorite show of all time already wrapped up production on its final season! if The Wire had been effected by this strike, I'm sure I would be more freaked out!;) personally aside from worrying about how this could hurt the industry and cause massive lay offs, I am a little worried about some new shows like Pushing Daisies and Life and their ability respectively to come back after an extended strike. my other shows, I know will be back to production eventually, but with brand new shows it hard to know.

I'm using the lack of new TV to DL shows that I have been meaning to check out, I've seen some people say that they are reading more, but I usually read quite a bit, anyway. still that's good, I think as we all probably watch too much anyway! right now, I am in the middle of watching the CBC program Intelligence and so far I am in love with it. I'm also catching up with Mad Men(my favorite new show this past year by far), Dexter and Brotherhood and eventually I will actually start FNL, hee, everyone is bitching about its second season, it seems, and I haven't even seen anything past the pilot.;)

I want the writers to get a fair deal, in the abstract, but that's true for any employee, really (I want them to get fair pay and conditions, whatever they happen to be). But it's sort of an abstract view for me, not something I am emotionally involved about. I am, however, amused that other than that 'fair pay' feeling, I am so out of it :)

The only show I am worried about is Supernatural. That show struggles as it is, and I am worried that the writers strike will kill it, and then I will be very sad. But that is really the only US show I am watching at the moment.

On the plus side, CW doesn't have anything to replace it with, so it might be safe, right?

The only US show I'm watching is Supernatural.. and it really makes me sad that the number of episodes will be cut in half as compared to last season... :(

I agree with your comment re: Asian dramas... I will go insane if I can't watch any drama at all...

I only care for Bones and as long as that's back for another season, I'm happy. And already hoping the stump season three = cheaper season DVD. :D It better!

I only really need Hong Gil Dong atm. However, if kpop overall went on strike, I'd die, too.
