Oh, Why Why Love, why must you be so awesome?



I am in the middle of ep 9 now, and I love it, and Jia Die, and Huo Da more than ever.

If I didn't adore Huo Da before, I would after the whole thing with Xiao Nan.



Because OMG, HD is at that mall where both Jia Die and Xiao Nan work, and he is a supervisor type person (because he is trying to earn money for his friends, awwww). And he accidentally overhears XN's scummy bf with another girl and their whole horrible plan and mockery of XN and Jia Die (JD gave scummy bf money) and he tears up at the great speed upstairs, running up the escalators, to find XN who he knows is the elevator girl and is likely to see her bf with another girl.

And he gets there to see evil bf and chick he is with walk out of the elevator and XN's face as she finally found out, and she is trying so hard not to break down. And OMG OMG, he steps into the elevator and the doors close and you know, it's Xiao Nan. He doesn't know her that well, and she's never said or done anything nice to him. But she is Jia Die's friend, and, just as importantly, she is in pain. Huo Da is really, behind his front, the nicest guy ever. So he radios that the elevator is out of service, and prods her to cry her feelings out, and tells her it's OK to break down, and she ends up crying and he just stands there and waits. And he pulls her into this hug and lets her sob on his chest.

And then he stands up to his brother when his brother is upset about the elevator delays, and he won't say what it was about because it's up to XN to do so if she wishes.

It's Xiao Nan. He doesn't know her well but he will do all that with no hesitation...oh God, I love Huo Da.

And then when XN and Jia Die have a huge fight and JD walks off, incredibly hurt, he goes after JD (and he is so concerned for her, I love it, and love that even XN can tell) and brings her back and the girls make up and he takes them out and really makes everyone feel better. And they go to the club where scummy bf is, and he lets Xiao Nan deal with it in her own way (as opposed to his guy friend who wants to punch the bf) and then to put the nail in humiliation coffin of ex-bf, says that since such a beautiful girl as XN is now single, drinks are on him ;)

What I love so much is this is all not done for someone he is in love with. I love everything he does for Jia Die but he loves her, even if he hasn't realized it yet. It's not even that he knows Xiao Nan well (like he did with JD when he paid her bill). But Huo Da is just full of this impulsive, irresistable caring kindness, and I love it so much.

And after the bar, he ends up carrying Jia Die piggyback home and I just die in so many ways.



He is carrying her, and she is drunk, and he is grumbling good-naturedly, and she is floppy and giggly and he tells her he thinks she is cute and it's the most adorable thing ever:

The whole ep made me positively swoon-y. I really really loved the part when Bo Zi came running up to XN and tried to cover her with his jacket because he thought she was cold and HD saw it and kinda offers JD his coat pockets in this awkward boyish way that made me giggle like a maniac.

That was the most adorable, hilarious thing ever. And he appears a little taken aback she doesn't agree.

You know, the difference between the brothers was so evident in this ep, even if we were never hit over the head with it: for HD, personal loyalty and emotion and care override everything. So what if the elevators are shut down for 10 minutes. A person, and caring comes first, it's not even a hesitation. But for HY, he might care and all, but control and generalities come first. The second might be more adult, but the former is much much more appealing. For HD, there are no barriers in doing his utmost for others.

I LOVE how they are constantly comparing the two brothers. The way they react to the whole 'exchange coupon' idea, both incidents with the kissing, both of their apologies, and with Xiao Nan... It shows how different they are, and every time, just reinforces how much more suited JD is for HD than HY, as appealing as HY may be (although I'm still on the fence there).

I also love how HD is so slowly realizing how he feels about JD... poor guy, he has no idea that he's in love with her, because it's happened without his even realizing it. When he tells her that he thinks she's cute despite all her 'flaws', I totally swooned. LIKE ACTUALLY SWOONED. And there may have been insane giggling. But he's oblivious... the scene in the staircase? When he asks "why would I kiss you when I don't even like you?" and he's being evil and teasing, but it's almost a question to himself as well... and oh, poor Jia Die, that had to sting a little, given that she kinda realized last episode that she's started to like him, and has tried to stay away from BOTH of the brothers and they had that awful (but GREAT!) goodbye scene only to find out he's also working at the same place that she is...

I've only meant to skim ep. 9 because I haven't had time to watch the whole thing, but got sucked in and watched from about halfway until the end, but I'm already dying for ep. 10 subs (I skimmed the RAW and it's been KILLING ME)

I know! He is just so confused and he can't face it really because he's been wrapped in his illusory love for YS for so long, and views Jia Di as this good friend/tease object/care object hybrid that it's weird to him, to see her in such a new light, especially since she isn't a traditional beauty.

Near the end of the ep, when he wanders around her house without realizing it? I died. Seriously, I squeed out loud. Or the scene when he is so worried for JD after her fight with XN and even XN can tell and so he runs off after JD and takes care of her. It's just...they are going into my Top 5 otps.

That whole thing with Xiao Nan kind of sealed my love for Huo Da. He doesn't even really know her...yet he does all these things for her because he is a nice guy! Love! And any boy who is that nice to your friends is a keeper!

Exactly. He wasn't nice from any hidden feeling or ulterior motive. It was simply because he didn't want to see someone in pain, even if it's someone he knows only causually.

Ep.9 was great in terms of plot and character comparisons, but I'd have to say it's the first time I became annoyed with HD. Yes, am totally a part of the dissenting minority about this.

I mean, I can see that he is all passionate and caring and doesn't care what anyone else thinks, and while I usually find that Hot, it doesn't change the fact that he's a manager at the mall and it's his own family's business, so he really should be more careful with his actions.

And Huo Yan was not the complete cold-blooded boss. His "punishment" was really just a way of placing XN in a more comfortable position, where she doesn't have to force herself to smile All The Time. In effect, HY is kind, just in a reserved way.

Well, maybe I wouldn't have been annoyed at all by that if I weren't piqued by the way HD handled JD's misunderstandings. She saw the two of them embracing in the elevator and had it chalk it up to them fighting, since there was no precedent for it. And no one bothered to explain anything to her. And, later on, after XN blew up at JD for giving the money, HD would have left with XN if XN hadn't told him to go check on JD first. (It's like HD only cares for someone when she's hurt, and if she's not hurt, then whatever.)

I guess what I'm really annoyed with is HD's seemingly capriciousness. It's like, if you're the wronged party (re: XN) then he'll defend you with everything he has, but if you're part of the guilty crew (ie: JD), then he doesn't care very much, even if you're the subconscious love of his love and you've just been punished for your crimes (re: JD being verbally creamed by XN).

So, in a way, HD can be just as fair, if not more than, as HY when it comes to handling situations. It's just that HD's supposedly subconsciously in love with JD, so I really would have liked to see him act a little nicer to her. (I prefer biased guys over just guys when it comes to lurve, apparently. :P)

I don't know, to me HD sticking with XN until she told him to go was actually something that made me love him: because XN was the one who was in need, after all. I do bet that if XN didn't tell him to go, he would have gotten XN home first and then went looking for JD without knowing why. He clearly was very upset JD was hurt, but he could see justice in XN's rant and certainly she was the one he was protecting at the time.

But I don't think Huo Da had to be the one to explain. If anyone, it would be Xiao Nan. Huo Da has no clue JD likes him and he certainly has no clue he likes her, so I don't it even occurs to him that she is someone he has to justify himself to. I don't think he even knows why she is annoyed or what is going on with that. As far as he can tell, she had no reason to be annoyed, is mildly annoyed, and it's yet another one of their million tiffs. Huo Da is a darling but he is not self-reflective in the least. And once again, it's a timing issue. He couldn't deal with it in the elevator because Huo Yan dragged them off, and then next time XN, HD and JD saw each other was during the blow-up fight between the girls and so the explanation was in it (as it was clear to JD what happened and why).

I mean, I can see that he is all passionate and caring and doesn't care what anyone else thinks, and while I usually find that Hot, it doesn't change the fact that he's a manager at the mall and it's his own family's business, so he really should be more careful with his actions.

I don't know, to me people putting personal and emotional above duty and even 'good' is a very attractive quality. Now, obviously, the scale is very different, but one of my favorite things about Almasy in The English Patient (one of my fave movies) was that he made a promise to get back to katherine in the cave and he would do no matter what to fulfill it, even trade Nazis the maps for transportation. It's not a moral choice, but it's one I love him for.

I can't agree enough with that. Almost all of the heroes I love are selfish in their own way.

But I guess what annoyed me about HD in ep. 9 was not so much that he put his emotions above duty, but that he put the emotions of the OTP's friend above the OTP. In real life, of course that would be a sane, just, and considerate thing to do, considering that XN needed someone at the time. But since this is drama, I wanted him to care more for his OTP than his OTP's friend.

I know HD was only being an extremely kind and considerate person, but I still got annoyed. Ahahhaha, of course it's just me feeling more sympathetic towards JD than XN.

Though you're right, HD didn't have to justify himself to JD, considering that they aren't dating and are not even fully aware of their feelings for each other. (It's just that, again, I still wanted him to run after JD instead of staying with XN--until she released him--at the end. Logically I can understand that XN needed more consoling, but...ergh, still....) So HD's really not at fault; he did what was best, but it wasn't what I would have wanted him to do (for selfish OTP reasons).

Whee. I just finished watching this. (Yes it's three in the morning.) And I had to read your thoughts on it and I completely agree with just about everything you said. If I didn't love Hua Da before, this pretty much solidified it for me. What an awesomely sweet, good guy.

I think the only thing that bugged about this ep. was his brother. While I completely understand HY's position, I find it extremely annoying that he seems to be just skimming the surface of HD's personality. Being tough with him will only push him away. HD's desperate, DESPERATE to be accepted and trusted by his family and all they can see is how much discipline he needs. Although, I suppose for HY it's the only way he knows how to help his brother but I really think he needs to look beyond the gruff belligerent exterior to the person underneath.
