Why Why Love making me incoherent...
Aug. 22nd, 2007 09:09 amI hate hate HATE Jia Di's Uncle. The way I haven't hated a character in a long time.
SCUM.
He is going to break his niece's heart for $$$ when she is the only one nice to him. Because he thinks she and Huo Yan are dating and he wants $$$ so he frames Jia Di and Huo Da and takes compromising pics and offers them to Huo Yan and STAB.
HORRIBLE.
DIE.
And oh, Huo Yan. I feel horrible for him, because he is quite reserved, and also somewhat of an outsider, because of being illegitimate (even if acknowledged and heir) so it's really hard for him to let people in and he has with Jia Di and now he thinks she is a slut in it for the money.
BUT
BUT
I want to smack him anyway. You do NOT humiliate Jia Di in public, you don't lash out at her. Didn't you learn your lesson with the phone number? I understand that it's sort of like when Huo Da thought she took his phone, writ large, but COME ON. You know her. Huo Da was at just met her stage when he did the phone thing. OH. STAB. You do not do THAT to Jia Di.
Seriously, I both adore him and want to hit him over the head with blunt objects.
And that is why Huo Da is a better match. Not because he drove all over town looking for her when he thought she was in trouble with loan sharks (and he made it down the stairs, even with his leg in a cast). Not because of the scene where she found out he paid her debts and ran to him and hugged him and he didn't make any smartalec comments but just held her. Not because he bought matching (pnk!) towel and toothbruth and cup for her or because he went spinning with her in the rain, or because he was fighting with her so she'd use the bed and he'd sleep on the floor when she was staying over. Not even because of how he behaved when he saw the ugly scene.
But because, when confronted with the same pictures, he unquestioningly, unhesitatingly, knew it was not Jia Di's doing or fault, and his one thought was how this was going to affect Jia Di. (Though to be fair, he didn't hear the blackmailing call, and plus he knows what the real situation between him and JD is. But still, Huo Yan KNOWS Jia Di).
If I were Jia Di, that would be the moment Huo Yan would be out of the running forever. Because nothing could make me overlook this. Objectively, I'd know why he acted this way, and understand it (the way I do as a viewer, and still love him), but emotionally, that would be it. The gate would shut forever. No grovelling would ever undo it.
ETA: It's my fluffy drama! No fair! Kingone is making me cry. And Rainie is making me cry. And Mike is making me cry. And the angst isn't even so huge, it's just I adore them so. ARGH!

I love that part! That is one of my huge kinks; tough guy all worried about the girl because he doesn't know where she is/what happened to her. I love it.

Date: 2007-08-22 03:40 pm (UTC)I literally made noises at my computer at that point. He dragged himself down the stairs! And kept going down the same street in a taxi over and over looking for her. And...that hug. OMG. He is so much bigger than she is, he totally envelops her and...*dies*

Date: 2007-08-22 03:25 pm (UTC)still, I want him to become sort of family friend for JD/HD otp - to be close to them and let himself relax.
btw, I'm now thinking that most of HD/HY animosity is secondary girl doing. because when they stayed at the same room in hospital, they were bantering and pranking, but it felt like very brotherly sniping - I behave in this way with my siblings sometimes, and it's ok for us. and then evil girl comes in, BAM - and everything is back to hate and rivalry.
(I hope so much she'll fall out of the picture soon).

to be close to them and let himself relax.
He really needs to let go, doesn't he? Their crazy family and the evil secondary girl (I don't know if most of the animocity is her doing, their family dynamic is horrible as is, but definitely a chunk is her fault. Mainly because HD likes her and he sees her like HY and starts sniping at him and off it all goes into a deep ravine) are totally screwing both guys up.
With Hup Da, it's totally apparent because he is all about expressing it out, as an extravert, but Huo Yan reminds me a little bit of Lee Jun Ki's character in Time between Dog and Wolf (other airing drama I am mainlining). I don't mean they have much in common, they are very different, but I mean the whole thing of when you first meet them, they seem perfectionists who are very capable with not much issues and flaws, but in reality it's because of their reserve, and they are a mess. I mean, Kingone's Mom sold him to Evil Dad for cash! That's bound to give you an issue or a dozen.
Huo Da becomes more and more awesome, especially when she practically forces HY and JD make up, as friends at least.
I so adore Huo Da. He is very very boyish, but he is quite emotionally perceptive, caring, and mature when it matters. And he takes such wonderful care of Jia Di. Getting that coupon bargain thing was the best thing that ever happened to her. Every time he makes faces to cheer her up (as she taught him), I melt a little...

Date: 2007-08-22 03:57 pm (UTC)I kinda feel like I want the happy end for them already - for HD and JD to hook up with JY on the side caring and being cared about, and without all this guaranteed angst in between. I guess it's just that JD is so tiny and obviously tired most of the time, that she makes me so very protective.
also, HY wins 'worst mom of this drama' competition, but JD is close second. all this emotional blackmailng and 'I totally ruin your life and in the same time make you feel guilty for it while favoring your brother (hate, hate, hate!) over you'. this 'touching' moment with gift almost made me throw up, and this was where she was trying. she should disown all of them or something.

Date: 2007-08-22 04:15 pm (UTC)he sends her picture of himself making a face - okay, I melted
I know. And her best friend (who is so awesome, and cares for JD when no one else did, and I hope ends up with HD's friend because he is goofy but really nice) is all 'how rude blah blah' and JD is smiling and...*melts all over again*
And I love that JD is all that HD despite the bluster never hurt her, and HY, despite the niceness did, and once again, the friend assumes that's because JD likes HY, and that is a small part of it (she let herself hope there) but mainly it's because anyone can tell that underneath the talk, HD is just this sweet, terribly young guy, who is incredibly caring and protective of JD. And who is never malicious at all towards her, and HY meant to hurt, and succeeded.
I kinda feel like I want the happy end for them already - for HD and JD to hook up with JY on the side caring and being cared about, and without all this guaranteed angst in between.
Oh YES. The thing with Huo Yan, he needs someone to care for him as badly as Huo Da and Jia Di do. His Dad only likes him (IMO) because he is the 'proper' son, and I am sure HY worked hard to be that way because after his experience with his bitch of a mother, it's all 'I have to be as good as possible so he won't reject me, because even my Mom did, so I must be inadequate.' And Huo Da? God, I want to stab his bastard of a father with a tetanus infected fork for the way he treats his kid (seriously, what is he? Drama Denethor?). I am amazed HD and HY are as nice as they are, with this kind of family.
JD is close second. all this emotional blackmailng and 'I totally ruin your life and in the same time make you feel guilty for it while favoring your brother (hate, hate, hate!) over you'. this 'touching' moment with gift almost made me throw up, and this was where she was trying. she should disown all of them or something.
I really dislike her mother. I find the drama so realistic in this family dynamic of JD (as well as HD and HY's issues). She is such a fake 'martyr.' Ugh. Care for your child, OK!
JD is so tiny and obviously tired most of the time, that she makes me so very protective
Oh, me too. Definitely. Usually I only get this level of protectiveness with kdrama heroines. And that's why I love her and HD together. If she makes him really enjoy himself and grow up at the same time (and that's the thing, this amazing person was always there, he just needed the slightest push to bring it out, which says volumes about his horrid family in itself), he makes her also relax and let go and have fun, and also feel safe and cared, something she doesn't get from her horrid family.
Re: scene with the money and HY/JD. Yup, that was the end for any possibility for them, and much as I love HD/JD, I feel bad for HY (one more reason to hate Uncle). She was still in the process of falling for him, and even if she was halfway there, it's not like the drama situation where she already loved him madly and then something screwy like this happened (am thinking of Silence, and a similar heart-breaking scene, but there they already loved each other for ages, and she found out shortly afterwards he did it to protect her).

Date: 2007-08-22 04:27 pm (UTC)I felt really sorry when HY and JD blew up like this (and they really irreparable did, even if she forgived him afterwards: you can't just accuse a girl like this and force kiss on her (awww, and this show of her crying silently when he kisses he) without giving her chance to explain - or, rather, without clarifying anything at all). they had something in common which HD lacked - they're both hard-workers and caretakers, and they know responcibilty for their own and somebody else's life HD is still somehow lacking. but guess this is why HD/JD is so good - she's learning to let go a little, and he grows up and cares. guess HY and JD would just go in circles against each other, both too 'good' and guarded.
so, so, so, hoping for happy end for this trio here, and for all relatives to fall off the face of earth. so glad I've started watching it.

Date: 2007-08-22 05:19 pm (UTC)In a way, it would have been better if he first went on a long tirade about how she was conniving and what not, and thus told her about pictures, and staying with HD, and scumbag uncle blackmail. That way, she could try to contradict, but if not, she would at least know where it was all coming from. And I can so, so understand why he lashes out like that (I don't think the pics by themselves would have been enough, but convo with Uncle really pushed it over the edge), especially since it seems hard for him to let people in but he let her in, and all he has are examples of people using each other, but yeah, that kills everything. Because she was so happy, and vulnerable, and open to him, the way she isn't with anyone, not even Huo Da at that point in time, and he crushed it all. And her guard is now permanently up. It was very different with the phone number earlier. At that point, she didn't yet know him very well, so it was just the beginning, but now she is going to see it as always happening. And her emotional investment is bigger, but also his actions aren't just of freezing her variety. And, she doesn't know why he is like that.
So toast.
this show of her crying silently when he kisses her
That broke my heart, or at least made me sniffle. Because I bet she wanted him to kiss her (nebulously, but whatever) because she viewed him as this sweet guy she liked, but then when he did, it was just the ultimate insult and totally horrible.
Btw, I love the scene where he finds out the truth, and he is waiting for her outside of school to apologize, and tries out an experimental smile which doesn't come out so well, and she just walks by him as if he doesn't exist. And yeah, as you put it upthread, she understands him (afterwards) but that door is shut forever.
they had something in common which HD lacked - they're both hard-workers and caretakers, and they know responcibilty for their own and somebody else's life HD is still somehow lacking. but guess this is why HD/JD is so good - she's learning to let go a little, and he grows up and cares. guess HY and JD would just go in circles against each other, both too 'good' and guarded.
Exactly. I really really like Huo Yan. He is flawed, differently than Huo Da, but he is perhaps closest to my real life type of guy :) And part of the reason JD was attracted to him is because she wanted someone who could take care of her. But that's the thing. They are too similar in some ways, and ultimately, it's Huo Da who knows how to take care of her and takes care of her the best...

Date: 2007-08-23 01:12 am (UTC)For me, Huo Yan's reaction completely ruined him for me, and I only begrudgingly refrain from completely hating him. It's not only the way he acted - striking out to hurt her without even confronting her directly about the issue (which is exactly what Huo Da would have done, ie the cell phone incident when he was all grouchy and grumpy but definitely told her), but even the way he attempted to reconcile with her... the 'kidnapping'... There's something else that happens later, in ep 7, that creates another important contrast for the brothers and I don't know how far you've gotten, so I won't say more, but that completely cinches it for me.
But the absolute worst part about it is the fact that not only did he humiliate her and purposely strike out to hurt her, but he ruined the one thing that she's a hopeless romantic about. She's so young and yet is so old, and is constantly disappointed by the adults in her life/people who are supposed to be looking out for her, and she's constantly worried about money and while she's an idealist, she's not a romantic/dreamer... except with her "guy number 10" who was never even supposed to give her his phone, but did and suddenly gave her something to dream about in that hopeful giddy girlish way. And he totally ruined that, ruined the one thing that she was a romantic idealist about. (Meanwhile, Huo Da is, underneath the snark and immaturity, actually a pretty good match to her ideal)...

Date: 2007-08-23 03:04 pm (UTC)She does so need someone to take care of her, doesn't she? Not because she is helpless or weak, because she is neither, but because she has so many burdens and no one to help her out (her best friend is awesome but still...not the same, and she can't help). And Huo Da is so good at taking care of her. From the mundane (feeding her, or buying her a toothbrush) to the not-so-mundane (doing anything to cheer her up, teaching her to scream her frustration, going to bat for her with his brother whom he normally avoids). In a way, perhaps because he was always viewed as the spare/screw-up, he puts her, and not his 'dignity' first. Unlike you, I adore Huo Yan regardless, but he is not a good match for Jia Di because he can't cut loose like this, forget himself in her (if this makes sense?). Huo Yan needs someone a lot less fragile-buffeted-by-life, as despite initial appearances, he is much more messed up than HD who is not very screwed up...just immature and a product of horrid family. JD is not emotionally resilient, life's given her too many blows and yet she hopes too much. Someone like HD, always straightforward, suits her much better. She doesn't have the confidence to break down HY's walls. Even if it wasn't for the $$ incident, I think the two would just circle around endlessly, reserved. I mean, she never had rip-roaring giggle-time the way she did with HD.
But I realized that part of the reason I like HD so much is not just the caretaking or the sheer sense of fun he has. It's because he is remarkably non-deluding. He loves (or thinks he loves) YS but he knows how she treats him and he makes no bones that she is playing games. I love the bit when he tells HY not to treat JD the way YS is treating him, HD.
Oh, and something completely random. I love the progressions of HD/JD waking up together. First time it happened, they were both comically horrified. But in ep 6, after she falls asleep on his shoulder after he spent the whole night trying to console her, you see him wake up, and once again, it takes him a moment to register she is there, and then...he just looks at her and smiles. If I wasn't a goner before, I'd be then.
