OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got this from soompi. The Hong Sisters, the screenwriters for My Girl and Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang, two of my all time favorite dramas (I haven't seen their Fatnasy Couple yet so can't comment), are doing another drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To be aired in November 2007. To be called Hong Gil Dong

With Joo Ji Hoon (Shin in Goong aka someone who makes [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie swoon like she is five).

OMG.

OMG.

Few dramas are as good at making you both giggle and cry, and be off-kilter witty and swoonily romantic as DGCH and MG. To have (hopefully) another one this good, and with JJH? I am so GLEEFUL.

Apparently, there is a great deal of speculation in the soompi thread about the topic for the drama. HGD is apparently Korean version of Robin Hood, during Joseon Days. So people are wondering whether it will be a period drama or something like DGCH which is a modern riff on the classic story. Please be the latter, please!

ETA: Ooooh, it's confirmed it's a period one. And supposed to be a light-hearted take on the original tragic story. Not surprising as it's Hong Sisters after all. Though this being kdrama, their 'light-hearted take' is still going to have more angst than a hungry vegetarian in a steakhouse.

Also, someone. Please talk me out of watching Sorry I love you (also known as MISA). I mean, it's supposed to be ridiculously angsty even by kdrama standards. The protagonist was abandoned by his mother, and he has been shot, but not fatally, but the bullets are lodged in his brain and he has months only to live. And his gf (for whom he took those bullets) ditches him. And he falls in love with another girl but can't have her because he is dying. And he is too emo to even avenge self on his mom. And he is played by the ridiculously hot So Ji Sub. Someone, stop me. Please.

Finally, Bae Yong Joon's 24-ep period/fantasy drama is going to air in September. YESSS.

I've seen a (very) few stills and it looks very good. Plus, 24 eps is a good length, not draggy.

dfjgfsdhjf awesome news! However, what I'm REALLY desperate for is the combo of Hong sisters + MG/DGCH director in another drama. Now that's magic. Without each other, their talents can be a total hit & miss. (Like I think WYH had awesome direction but script lacked as the drama went on. On the other hand I hear Fantasy Couple had a cool story but somewhat lame direction..)

That would be really cool. I don't think it's that director though. We'll see. As long as they get a good director, it doesn't have to be the MG/DGCH for me. The odds of that one are pretty good.

Fantasy Couple never struck me as 'my thing' because I am not keen on the movie it's based on.

YAY! You are the fabulous bearer of the good news! Joo Ji Hoon is probably my favourite Korean actor at the moment as I like "Mawang" very much too.

He is one of my favorites too. Lee Jun Ki is currently my favorite but it always changes from one drama to the next :)

I really enjoyed My Name Is Kim Sam Soon -- it was hilarious and also angsty in the way that the romantic comedies tend to be angstier than the super-serious ones. I saw "I'm Sorry I Love You" dubbed in Mandarin when I was in Taiwan a couple of years ago, and oh my god, if it was that depressing and heart-wrenching when layered over with another language, imagine watching it with the original actors' voices, and proper English subs. I have to say, though, that some of the extremes of kdrama conventions that this drama hit bordered on the ridiculous, which is why I could go from being near to tears to laughing hysterically in less than a minute while watching this. I never finished it, though, so I can't give a proper review.

BYJ...okay, his big blue scarf in "Winter Sonata" scarred me for life. I'm not sure if I'm quite ready to give anything he's in another try just yet.

But then look at all the crying kissing in MISA :)

I think I'll enjoy it but only if I watch with a friend so we can mock, because otherwise I'll get too depressed.

I really need to watch MNIKSS.

That's the thing -- MISA is one of those dramas that I'd be too embarrassed to watch seriously, to watch without MST3K-ing my way through it. It's just so...extreme.

You need to see MNIKSS if only because Hyun Bin is wonderfully delicious in it. He snarks, he swoons, and he has quiet manpain. It's awesome.

Guuuuh. *curses* Now it's in my 'next drama to start' position. Kicked off Smile Again and Save the last dance off that spot. Argh :)

I haven't seen "Smile Again", but I have seen "Save the Last Dance", and while I thought it was pretty good for what it was, I wasn't that enamored by it. The thing with STLD is that it's sort of uneven -- there are moments of awesome (there is crying, and hugging, and kissing!) and then there are moments of Sheer Stupid (read: lots and lots of amnesia) that mar everything else.

MNIKSS though, is wholly satisfying. The love polygon works, partially because it's entirely possible to find SOME good in the secondary characters. Sure, Girl #2 will drive you up the wall sometimes, but you can see where she's coming from, and eventually she comes to terms with her own flaws, which is why you don't mind so much when Daniel Henney's character falls for her. And the side characters! The family is really fun, in a very realistic sort of way, and Sam Soon is probably one of my favorite kdrama heroines ever, because she's so fearless.

The only way I got through Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake is watching it with [livejournal.com profile] tatterpunk for a bit and laughing at some of the OTT because otherwise I would have slit my throat from the angst.

I got through it by watching some of it on mute. Takeshi, running in the rain, is made even better when you don't have to listen to the leading girl cry.

Don't do it. I'm Sorry I Love You is one of those dramas where I tried TWICE - complete with downloading, trying to watch, getting frustrated and deleting it and then re-downloading it a good 6 months later when I tried to watch it again - to watch it and was completely unsuccessful. I got about half way through it and just couldn't go on.

And it wasn't because of the angst. I just found almost everyone in the series (except for the awesome OTP moments, of which there are some) incredibly and utterly annoying. And the mysterious terminal k-drama illness just made me roll my eyes. It has potential, and I know plenty who have adored it, but it SO isn't my thing AT ALL and now, the mere mention of it makes my skin crawl, that's how violently I disliked it.

They did steal it from a Bond villain, after all.

I am going to check it out on youtube because I don't want to dl unless I know I'll like.

I haven't seen any Hong Sisters (I'm assured I've missed half my life because of which fact, by my best friend and my mother) but this one will perhaps be deliciously my first bite. :)

Thanks for sharing.
