ETA:
meganbmoore, I just bought first ten volumes of Basara.
I am feeling better, thanks everybody.
I finally caved and got Little Fairy which is a wuxia/fantasy/fairy-tale Chinese drama about a mortal man falling in love with a goddess who is temporarily banished from heaven. I was dubious as to whether to get it, despite finding Ariel Lin adorable as a button and having nothing against Hu Ge (the male lead, I had no opinion on him as I've never seen him in anything). I am not big on fantasy in dramas, incredible wuxia jumps being about the most I can usually tolerate. However, tricksy
calixa lured me in by promising manpain. Lots of manpain, and torture/slavery/attempted suicide/screams of despair (I take it her family isn't keen on him).
Yay. Let's see how it goes.
Oh and a bunch of scans and vids.
Here are one of my favorite secondary OTPs of Fruits Basket, the hyper-dramatic, crazily oblivious Ayame (think a grown up Tamaki) and Mine, his shop assistant. They run an 'exotic clothes' stoer together. If they have any kids, I bet they will rebel by being stodgy accountants:

Awww. Ayame told Mine how he was a prat to a girl who asked him out in high-school. The thing that I love about Ayame so much, is that drama queen that he is, he actually grew up. He knows he was an inconsiderate brother to Yuki when they were kids, he knows he was self-absorbed in general, and he is actively trying to make up for it. It's kind of an awesome sub story.

I need to find the scans with the semi-hugging.
Here are some Capital Scandal vids. Hats, angst, dancing!
And after seeing Partner yesterday, which deserves its own post, as I laughed so hard I almost died, here are some Govinda vids.

Date: 2007-07-30 10:55 pm (UTC)My favourite scene is when Ariel tries to make Hu Ge remember her (the manpain was too much for him to bear so he got amnesia), but he won't because if he remembers her, he has a reason to live (and he wants to die). And she starts beating herself because it's all her fault, and he's staring at her like 'who is this crazy strange girl and why is she beating herself' and suddenly his heart starts ACHING for no reason and then manpain settles in again and he runs away screaming while Ariel cries like it's nobody's business. VERY good angst right there. I've watched it about 4 times and it still delights me.

Date: 2007-07-30 11:06 pm (UTC)I decided I love period cdramas. No matter how fluffy they start out, you know that soon enough everyone will be hit by a giant trainwreck of ANGST. And manpain. Only thing better than manpain is screaming manpain, and apparently we get that too.
and he wants to die
But why does he want to die if he doesn't remember her? Surely, then he is single, ready to mingle, thus has reason to live :D

This is very true. Back in the day they knew how to break each other's hearts and do it good.

Drama heroes never mingle when they are single... they are required to mope and angst all over the place. This is tradition!!
He wants to die because he has no family and friends and is a slave. And he has started remembering her but is pretending he doesn't in order to go on with his miserable existence. I assume because he doesn't want to have to hate her (because when she went away the first time in the carriage, she had to lie to his face about never loving him in order to stop him from fighting back and getting killed by the heavenly guards). All this is confusing to me too... it is not very clear because they are trying to shove at least 5 different kinds of angst at you all at once. JUST REMEMBER: LOTS OF SCREAMING MANPAIN.

Ooooh, the whole 'pretending you never loved your otp for their own good' is my fave thing ever (see Snow Queen).
JUST REMEMBER: LOTS OF SCREAMING MANPAIN.
Oh yes. Makes every drama better...
is that Hu Ge in your icon? Whoever it is, he is hot.

It is wuxia. Do not demand logic, just enjoy the visuals, and and flying. And wuxia logic. Wuxia logic is pure crack.
