Yamapi double-feature: ProDai and Nobuta
May. 10th, 2007 01:12 amFirst off, I have to rec
calledinvain's Kurosagi's Five futures fic. It's one of the futures and it's amazing and angsty and happy and perfect and is a bit of a Hanadan crossover.
I have finished ep 2 of ProDai and it is seriously
the. cutest. thing. ever.
It's going into my top 10 jdramas for sure and is my favorite drama of the spring season by leaps and bound (yes, even over Witch Yoo Hee).
There is not a single thing I don't love about it, except for the fact that I can't gorge on all the eps right away.
Also, Yamapi? So. freaking. awesome. He has great comedic timing and expressions (the scene in the bath? LOL) but he can also break my heart with one of his patented wounded looks. ProDai is this huge emotional rollecoaster for me: I giggle and I sniffle (much more often than one should in a light drama, but it's always the 'light' ones like 'My Girl' that get me the most). Mr. Mousie was actually mocking me because I get so invested that at the last part of the ep (with the new student teacher who is the future groom, baaaaaad vie, ugh! erasing Ken's message to Rei) I was making repeated stabbing motions at the screen and audible 'stabbing' sounds. Heh.
Ken is adorable. He is one of those rare drama guys I would love it real life (a lot of them are magnetic disasters so it rules them out as suitable companions). I loved the thing he told Rei in the hallway about excuses not mattering because all the excuses don't matter as he didn't get her what she wanted. Of course, I can see a 23 year old saying it (because that's what he is, a 23 year old back in time) but not a just-18 boy.
And that is why I want to take Rei, adorable and awesome as she is, and shake her. Hard. Girl, I understand about coy. Or shy. But seriously, your hints are much much much too oblique for him to get. He is getting them now because he is much older and is fixating on each detail, but seriously. The birthday thing? Cute. Adorable. But insane to expect him to figure out. Guys are dense. Teenage guys? Triply so. Boys are emotionally stupid, it's a known fact. Tell him you like him. Come on, cut him some slack.
I have also, being on a jdrama kick, started continuing with Nobuta Wo Produce and am in middle of ep 9. I loved ep 8 (the first ep I really fell for, it took me the longest time. Posted about it much earlier as got sidetracked with something else afterwards) and interestingly my strong liking has held as I love 9 and am really emotionally invested in these characters: I adore Shuji: I started out thinking of him as the most bland but now I am anxiously protective of him; and Akira: I went from finding him freaky to amazing. His comment about how he doesn't care if Nobuta and Shuji are together because they come first and he comes second is...waaaah. And of course I care for the scared, blossoming Nobuta. It's wonderful. I guess not being so incredibly tired helps.

Date: 2007-05-10 05:28 am (UTC)Also? You must catch up on Liar Game(Erica Toda makes that slightly on topic, right?) May not be the best thing ever, but it's one of the most squee worthy things ever.
And completely off topic: Dragon Tiger Gate: Donnie Yen + Nicholas Tse=complete ogle-ing. And the fact that anyone else registers enough for me to ogle them when Donnie Yen is around says much. (Hmm...I have a wuxia dorama starring Tse...maybe it should be next...) Now if they just had better hair...

Date: 2007-05-10 05:32 am (UTC)I know Tse has an upcoming wuxia drama that's going to be subbed too, but you mean he was in another one? *salivates*
I dled up through 4 of Liar Game and when I catch up on ProDai, catching on LG is next. I'd put Witch Yoo Hee ahead but I have a huge amount of eps to catch up on (6, I think) so that will wait till the weekend binge.
Re: Nobuta. You are right. It's just wonderful. It took me so long to fall for it, but I have. I just want to hug all the protagonists.

Date: 2007-05-10 05:45 am (UTC)Handsome Siblings/Proud twins...reg. person has it. 45 eps of Nicholas Tse with a sword DOES sound nice, doesn't it(though watching him and Donnie Yen year through armed guys barehanded here...)
And LG..he's gives her his cell number, frets when he misses her call, tracks her down when he knows she's getting in trouble, and he stops mid tirade to assure her she's exempt then keeps right on going...it is love.
Nobuta is one of the few shows that really is just about friendship...any liking(which there's plenty of) is irrelevant because the friendship will come first, and that's what makes it work so well.

Date: 2007-05-10 06:08 am (UTC)i love him as ken, although seriously rei needs to hit him with a sledgehammer no more subtle hints and he needs to step up... is it wrong to think it's cute when he says "hallelujah chance" with that pose???

Date: 2007-05-11 03:31 am (UTC)And yeah, Rei needs to quit it with hints, no way can a guy get them :)
