dangermousieDuring my lunch break I visited the scary place known as FF.net to see if there were any ROTS stories I wanted to read (yes, I know, I am an endless optimist). There weren't. However, I remain, as always, astounded by the sheer badness of the fanfic there. I bring you some of the "best" summaries, for your delectation. (Of course, the stories themselves might be brilliant and just the summaries bad. Miracles do happen. But I have no desire to subject myself to finding out)
From the Star Wars section (all posted within a few last days):

I am all for second chances, but really, how many chances does one get? Will someone perpetually try to save poor Anakin? In every generation of Skywalker family, someone will go off on a quest to save Anakin, so that it will become family tradition....
It is about Luke Skywalker ahving an apprentice and then his apprentice turn to the dark side not again but anyways, it's full of action and keeps at an easy pace.
If only you could be coherent. And also, action and easy pace at the same time? Does the action consist solely of sleeping or leisurely meals?
When queen Jamillia becomes ill a new wave of enemies begins to plan an attack. Obi-Wan and 19 year old Anakin are sent to Naboo to help protect the queen with the help of Adi Gallia and her young and beautiful apprentice Vanie. Sparks begin to fly.R&R!
Who shall be the unfortunate victim of the Mary Sue? Obi-Wan or Anakin? Or *shudder* both? This fic interests me deeply. But, alas, not interested enough to click and find out. Maybe because there is no mention of amethyst eyes and golden hair? Or a 10-syllable name. Surely, that's it.

Sometimes, I simply have to include the title. Rouge Jedi? Rouge? Are they clowns? Communists? Make-up addicts? Alas, the fact that they are TWO Mary Sues will ensure me not finding out.

Eh, it could follow the Lucas arc where he gets intrigued by Leia, starts to develop a romance, but then finds out before anything comes to fruitition.

The problem is it is hard to fish through sheer volume of stuff to find good stories (e.g. I found one there today that seemed quite good, an AU about Anakin "waking up" to realize that he's made a different choice about Mace and thus did not "fall," unsure of the OT and the rest of ROTS happened or whether it was just a vision. It's still plenty dark as he still has all his impulses and issues and it's going into an interesting direction. But it's pretty rare: that was one fic out of 8 or so pages).

sounded good. I don't care one way or another for Jar-Jar, but it shows promise.
The real problem with ff.net is that there ARE good fanfics, it's just bunched up with ALOT of crappy fics. Your list demonstrated this, as I can can probably pick out one or two summaries from it that shows promise (not sure what you found wrong with those, but I guess it's a personal preference), but I have to wade through about two pages of crap to find it.
But ff.net is a dumping ground for fanfiction, and as any discerning reader knows, fanfiction is about 90% crap, 9% yawn and 1% brilliant.

Date: 2005-05-31 11:33 pm (UTC)Yes, ff.net's problem is its size. It has its good SW authors (e.g. I love geo3's stories) but they get swamped since FF.net unlike many other archives doesn't have any criteria for accepting/rejecting stories based on quality.

Date: 2005-06-01 02:42 am (UTC)Sadly, I've read one story of him and MPREG (http://www.masterapprentice.com/archive/p/prodigal_cyn.html). I’ve accidentally run into them (nothing in the summary) and stopped reading because I just couldn’t go on. However, this one was written by my favorite author and I felt inclined to just suck it up and read it since it wasn't the main focus on the story. It was… weird, I can’t deny that, but I guess as MPREG stories go there was a decent explanation involving Obi’s people, etc.
And it wasn’t just like he got pregnant and popped out a kid one day. There was a lot of medical stuff to be done that made it seem less preposterous I suppose. And in the end he only lives a few years after the child is born because of everything they needed to do to allow him to have her. Again, weird, but not *that* weird.
