I just tried to walk myself through it again and only made it 3 steps.
*hangs head in shame*
Chrissy's not on(helped me set mine up), but here's what another friend said: [00:13] hit print screen on your keyboard and open your photo editing program [00:13] create a new file and hit paste
though that sounds more complicated than how mines set up.
and because he is awesome, he investigated and did a better job of it than me:
[00:21] settings menu -> preferences [00:21] video tab [00:21] video snapshot directory, hit the browse button and pick a folder [00:22] and that should set it up with the A+C+s defaults
001) press the riught button on the mouse and manually select "snapshot", or 002) i think the default shortcut is "alt+ctrl+s" but you can check for yourself. see Settings>Preferences>Interface>Hotkeys Settings. then check the advanced options checkbox, look for 'take video snapshot'
personally i prefer BSplayer for screencapping, as all you need to do is press the letter 'P' and you're all set. plus in vlc i don't know how to edit the folder where your cap is going to be automatically saved. bsplayer is simpler. ^^;
Settings-->Preferences-->Video (side menu)-->Scroll down (on right side) to Snapshot. From there you can set the directory. There's a couple more settings in Video-->Output Module-->Image file as well.
This was seriously annoying to find. And when I did I realized it wasn't exactly hidden, but something about VLC's setup just seems counterintuitive.
