More Meteor Garden
Feb. 17th, 2006 12:18 pmI think I’ve fallen for Lei. Yup. Of course, I am still a rabid DMS/SC shipper, which means he is free and available :P
It’s the scene where DMS’ Mom, Queen Bitch (QB for short), calls Lei over and under pretense of concern for his family (and because she did some investigating and knows SC used to like Lei) makes Lei the offer of helping out Lei’s family with business (that might be in trouble), if he agrees to take up with SC again. It’s a pity women don’t have mustaches, because if QB had one, she’d be twirling it constantly. I mean, that is utterly evil not just because this plan would take away the girl her son loves, it would also take away his best friend forever. Ugh. Mmmm, yummy melodrama.
And Lei is quiet, polite and completely unyielding, the way he generally is and tells her his father will take care of his own business. And QB tells him that he is a fool because DMS will get tired of SC soon anyway, because it’s just like when he was little and he’d go crazy for some toy until he got it and then he’d get bored. And Lei looks straight at her and responds “Perhaps I have more concern for your son than you do. Toys and loved ones are different.” And he walks off, thanking her for her hospitality. And he actually gives her very good parting advice (even if she won’t take it) that DMS is very stubborn so the more she tries to control him, the more he’ll rebel and the only thing she’ll accomplish by her methods is making DMS hate her. Of course, if she took his advice, where would be the drama?
But of course, DMS and SC are finally over (see last ep) and he asks out his arranged fiancée out on a date and tells her he will try to like her. It’s kinda sad, but not surprising because there is only so long you can push and push if the other person doesn’t give anything back. But their first date is hilariously horrible. DMS, sitting in the cozy restaurant, looks like someone is performing surgery on him without anesthetics. He orders a cappuccino but when she orders the same and goes “I love cappuccinos too.” he abruptly says he wants tea instead.
Sample conversation:
Fiancée: Here is a present I got you because we just started dating
DMS (looking panicked): I don’t have anything for you.
Fiancée: it’s OK, it’s not a custom or anything, I just wanted to give you something.
DMS (mumbling): thanks. [puts present, unopened, on the table]
Fiancée: Aren’t you going to open it?
DMS: I’ll do it when I get home
[dead silence]
And then he basically says he doesn’t want to be there any more and leaves and she is trying to catch up with him and why is he walking so fast “we are not running a race” and he snaps he hates people who walk slowly. And she yells at him and tells him this is a horrible date, they might as well not be dating, and she so looked forward to it and she got up early to buy him a present but when he bolted from the restaurant he left it on the table. So he feels bad (because he is not evil, just sulky and thoughtless) and asks her what should he do and so she makes him hold her hand etc and he is about as happy as he’d be if someone was amputating it. ROFL.
I love the scene where Lei and SC are talking, walking in a school hallway, and then they hear voices and see that downstairs, fiancée has caught up with DMS and she tells him that this is horrible because whenever they go somewhere (they’ve apparently been dating for a bit), he doesn’t talk and sometimes she thinks he doesn’t know she is there, and he hasn’t even kissed her. And then she tells him “Kiss me. Prove to me you are over SC. If you say you are over SC, then prove it.” And as SC and Lei watch, unobserved, DMS tells fiancée to close her eyes and then he kisses her. And it’s a very nice kiss, actually. And I love the look on SC’s face. I think it’s at that very moment she realizes just how much she likes DMS and she pushed him away herself and now he is lost forever (except not, since I know the story). And then Lei sees the look on SC’s face and is all “didn’t you tell me you wanted them together?” and SC rapidly starts shouting how “I feel so great, it’s like all my vacations at once, in fact, no, it’s not like that, it’s even better” and she is babbling and yelling at the same time and it’s cute and Lei is all “do you know, every time you try to hide your feelings, you babble non-stop” Heeee.
I must admit my subtitles are a bit…interesting. It’s like reading a book through a crooked mirror. You get the gist, but the words are mildly distorted. Not only do they seem to like to refer to ‘feelings’ as ‘feels’ and ‘clothes’ as ‘cloths’ but their understanding of genders is a bit off because they like to refer to SC as ‘he’ and ‘him’ which, if true, would make the love story a lot more unusual.
Oh, and yeah. DMS still looks HOT in black.
