OK, it's official.
Dangermousie/Kurosagi=OTP.
I love it!
Kurosagi is a jdorama that follows a 'Black Swindler,' a swindler who swindles other swindlers as his livelihood. People on my flist kept raving about it and I can see why.
First off, Yamapi is sex on legs. Very long, very sexy legs.
Second, I want to shake Tsurara so hard her head will spin. Seriously, I was yelling at the computer a few times. Blah blah morals. OK, girlie. Your Uncle will swindle the evil bitch who stole his money and get the money back. Or you know, he can be honest, and it will break up his family and he'll probably go to jail for the debt. The man was so depressed he was going to off himself. And no one will be harmed. The only one cheated will be the swindler in the first place. And if she calls the cops on it, it's caput for him saving himself. Not to mention the guy who offered to help and who...just coincidentally, no big deal I am sure, saved your life. GRRRR. Yeah, I know she's projecting because her father was a ne'er-do-well, but she has to have some common sense. But still, that last scene between them? With the slapping (her to him) and the staring (mutual) etc etc? I loved it. And his outburst that he hates swindlers most of all and her look of at first incomprehension and then puzzlement as her view of him shifts before our eyes and she realizes he isn't in it for the risk or because he is a lazy cheater but because something else drives him and I think she really wants to find out why. They already had crazy chemistry, but this is the moment she becomes hooked.
Leaving this aside, I love the crazy levels of chemistry Kurosagi and Tsurara have. And OMG, the eye fucking in this drama! And that scene, when they first meet and he rescues her from the incoming train and there is all that hot sexy intense staring? Wow. Unbelievable. OMG. So OTP.
Kurosagi is incredibly screwed up. I mean, Hakkai (from Saiyuki) levels. And he looks it. Whenever he smiles, it never reaches his eyes. And no wonder, that's one heck of a horrible background. WTF was his father on? You got swindled, great. You off your entire family with a butcher knife? Wonderful.
But that whole flashback, with Kurosagi coming home from school (btw, Yamapi in school uniform? ROWR) and seeing his mother and his sister dead in the house. And then his father coming out with the knife? Horrible and his innocent disbelief is just heart-breaking as is the little bit later when he is just sitting catatonic, covered in blood.
How telling is it that he has that happy smiling picture of his family together, and he has blacked out his own face. He has an incredible case of survivor's guilt. Probably compounded by the fact that he is a swindler which is something he loathes so much even if it is for revenge. And he buys info from the guy who is responsible for his family's demise? But he told him some day he willkill him? Oh my. The poor guy is so screwed up.
The thing is (and it's once again, Hakkai-like), he keeps rescuing all these people and helping them to recover their money because it's like a second chance for his family. It's a little as if he went back and rescued them. If someone was able to do that for them, then the whole thing wouldn't have happened. He is trying to expiate even though of course none of it was his fault. Through all of this (and they draw parallels rather explicitly between him and that swindled guy's small son. OMG. When he offers to fix his bicycle and the kid insists his Dad will do it? Kurosagi once had that same trust in his father and I think the whole point is, he wants to keep that innocence for others because there is no hope for himself), he keeps reliving his past over and over and only this time he changes the outcome. Which is not healthy at all and keeps him stuck in the past.
That bit when he has that outburst at the victim that if he wants to give up, he shouldn't be a father? Such a projection and reliving of his issues. And then the little kid tries to pummel him and the whole family is hugging and crying together and the look on his face? Because these people have their HEA but he can only watch as a spectator because this is something from which he is forever excluded. And it doesn't help him in a second chance way (ooooh, saved these people, changed the outcome!) but brings into relief that this he can never have, it's too late for him. Yamapi is SO good at doing the whole bottled-up yet falling apart in front of your eyes thing. OMG. He just projects so much pain.
And oh my God. He is such a mess. Such a hopeless, magnetic, angsty, gorgeous mess. In hot black clothes.

Date: 2006-10-20 04:01 am (UTC)But yeah, it's disturbing how hot Kurosagi is. And it's his intensity issues even more than his looks. In RL, I'd run so fast from someone like him, but in fiction? YUM. But OMG. Where has this been all my life?

Date: 2006-10-20 04:34 am (UTC)Kurosagi/Tsurara is one of my favorite jdrama OTPs. I love how complex he is, and god, he's so young, but sometimes you forget, and then this boyish grin sneaks up on you, and then...guh. Just so wonderful. (Also: My love for Yamapi in a school uniform is rivaled only by my love of Jin and Kame in school uniforms. I suggest checking out "Nobuta wo Produce" if only for Yamapi and Kame in uniforms. That, and because it's an awesome drama.)
Sure, Tsurara has an ideal sense of what justice is. But she gets better, don't worry. And she makes a terrific foil for his character. She doesn't pull any punches with him and doesn't try to do the typical girly thing with the weird mind games. Because she tells him what she thinks he needs to hear, not what he wants to hear. (You'll see what I mean with later episodes.) I'm so glad you're loving this--we need more Kurosagi squee in this world!

Date: 2006-10-20 09:43 pm (UTC)And I've watched ep 2 (more on which later) and yes, Tsurara is evolving. Tsurara is also pretty mellowed out. I think she has never had to face the shady sides of the world before so it was safe for her to assume any illegal activity=evil. But now she is face to face with Yamapi's character, it's going to give her shades of grey.
Kurosagi desperately needs to care about someone but he won't let himself and life keeps reaffirming his isolation (see the heartbreaking stuff with former friend in ep 2) so it's really good for him to have Tsurara. It hasn't even anything to do with romantic stuff. He needs someone, even if only (for now) as a friend.

Date: 2006-10-21 04:32 am (UTC)The beautiful thing with Tsurara is that she is someone he can count on--I think he's having problems accepting that and he's very wary of her, understandably, because of what else has happened in his life (I mean, god, what awful thing hasn't happened to him? Poor boy). Is it weird that I just want to give Kurosaki a sweater and a hug? And then maybe make him cookies? He's just a big ball of angst, wrapped up in that cute little trench-coat wearing package, and I am such a sucker for that.

Date: 2006-10-22 04:52 am (UTC)I really must watch Nobuta now. And anything else Yamapi was in, too.

Oh yes. I love the scene where he lets his guard down just the tiniest bit, when she asks him about his parents and it's not even that he answers her but it's probably the first time anyone really asked, anyone he felt any connection with, that is, and that little thing is enough to put all his walls up. Ouch. He just might be the most damaged dorama hero out there, and that's rather impressive.
P.S.

Date: 2006-10-20 09:44 pm (UTC)The OTP is very full of UST so there won't be full blown romantic confessions or similar. But OMG. They are such an OTP. Even two eps in.

Date: 2006-10-21 09:15 am (UTC)I think this is what is drawing me in - I was really crazy about Mulder/Scully OTP/UST in "X-files" (oh, well, up to the point until it all went on for too long).
I have got "Nobuta wo produce" recently as well and was going to watch it first, but I am getting to be very inklined towards "Kurosagi". Everybody seems to be reccomending it. And thank you!!!!!!

Date: 2006-10-20 12:02 pm (UTC)That's one of my favorite layers to this series, that he is so consumed with wanting to destroy all swindlers that he becomes one himself. And is taught everything he knows by the person who orchestrated the swindle that destroyed his family and his life, which MAKES him a swindler. And the picture with his face scratched out? OMG. I think it's because he can't look at HIMSELF when he has become what he is - even though he's doing it to destroy them and help other people (even though he claims to be only out for revenge), and he also can't face the 'him' that was so happy in that picture, when he is SO not a happy guy...
