dangermousieOh, how much do I love It Started with a Kiss ep 19? I have no words!
I really love the scene where XQ comes back from her first date with Ah Jin. I love everything about it. I love how ZS comes up behind her and the first thing out of his mouth (she is making instant noodles): "Didn't you have dinner on your date?" He is so jealous. OMG. And that sense only intensifies when it turns out everyone else in the house went to the hospital but he stayed behind, as he puts it, to take a shower. Yeah right. I bet he was waiting until she got home so he could see what she acted like and when she got home (he also makes another comment that he thought she was going to be out all night). Heeee. I can just imagine him freaking.
And he startles her and she spills the hot noodles on her foot and OMG. Love that part even more. Because she is freaking out and in pain and he is so instantly concerned and instinctively knows how to calm her down and he picks her up and carries her upstairs and takes care of her foot and they are both sneaking looks at each other and it's the most adorable thing ever.
You really get a sense from scenes like this that difference in personality and intellect are immaterial in their case because they are just so compatible. He is someone who will always take care of her and be amused and not irritated by her penchant for trouble. And she is the only one who can bring him out of his shell and make him feel and allow him to express himself. Not just express himself actually, but even to develop feelings that need to be expressed. Later, Hui Lan makes the very same point when she tells him she knows he likes XQ. Her reason? "Because with me you are always such a gentleman and you never raise your voice. Only with her do you seem human, a being of flesh and blood, with a temper and ups and downs." (And he doesn't deny it). And it's true. Later, after HL witnesses a fight he has with XQ you see a startled look on her face and ZS tells her 'I will never raise my voice at you' but that is because she is incapable of engaging him on an emotional level. With XQ he can lose it (in this case he was mad because he was jealous) but with HL and the rest of the world, he is rather detached and encased in ice. The only time you see him human during their interactions is either when he is remembering or imagining or encountering XQ.
So Hui Lan, even though she is pretty, and tall, and poised, and intelligent is just not for him. And Ah Jin, even though he is amazingly sweet (and he won my heart and if XQ doesn't want him, I'll take him) is just not for XQ. I do love the fact that when push comes to shove and HL asks XQ what ZS thinks of her (HL), XQ tells HL that ZS likes her (HL). It goes all the way back to when she followed ZS and Zi Yu on their date. She loves him so if she thinks he really would be happy with someone else, she is incapable of standing in the way. And I love even more the fact that she really tried very hard with Ah Jin. And it turned out she couldn't forget ZS no matter what.
The scene in the zoo where Jin and XQ on a date bump into ZS and HL on a date? Wonderful. The way XQ and ZS try to look at everything but each other. The way HL is clueless (understandably) and calls out to XQ and XQ says that Jin is her boyfriend. The LOOK on Zhi Shu's face at that point. Oh. MY GOD. And then he snaps at her because he is so frustrated and jealous and confused and everything and XQ gets off mad and crying at the same time and then he tells her that he thinks Jin is good for her but it's totally choking him. And at night she ends up crying and he is sitting in his room all frozen. ANGST.
And then XQ is seriously considering accepting Jin's proposal and her friends go and have a conversation in front of ZS on purpose to let him know (I don't think they think they can change his mind, but sort of rub his face into the fact that XQ is not unwanted) and he looks utterly struck down and disoriented. And then he goes shopping for wedding rings with HL but he is just spacing out and freaking out and I think he is finally realizing what he feels and what he wants (it took him SO long because he's never really felt before). And they have dinner and she is talking about wedding plans and he is staring at her but in his mind's eye he is seeing XQ and she is blabbing about the kind of wedding she'd like and he is smiling at it. And then when HL recalls him to his present surroundings, he really looks like he is barely holding his composure and sanity together and HL tells him she knows he likes XQ (and the above thing about him only being a person with her) and she asks if there is anything she can do to replace XQ in his heart and ZS says he doesn't know and just goes running out of there. FINALLY.
And he runs to the restaurant where Jin and XQ were supposed to be and it's closed and he sort of collapses in front of it and he is wondering where they could have gone and you can see he is panicking so much his mind is wiped blank and he can't concenterate and he is repeating "Ah Jin and Xiang Qin. Xiang Qin and Ah Jin. Xiang Qin" and you can tell he just can't deal with the thought of them together and every time he says their names like this it's freaking him out more and more.
And then he runs looking for her more, in the pouring rain, and we get the rain kiss scene which I've written about before in detail so no need to repeat, except for three things: it's even cooler in context, and when XQ talks about marriage proposal, ZS freaks out so much he literally bites his lip which is HOT and after that amazingly gorgeous kiss, when he holds her and tells her to stop counting kisses, as he is holding her tighter and tighter, he is also kissing her hair. OMG.
And then I had to leave the house. Booo!
For those of you who wanted to see if the subs of Magic Ring were any good before getting it (all two of you :P), I've got it today and checked the subs and from what I can see, while no miracles of grammar, they appear to be OK. So if you want to see Joe Cheng angst, get to it! I put in some random scene in some random disc, and yup, angst.
And speaking of doramas and angst, I am almost done with It Started with a Kiss. Which dorama should I watch next? I am tending towards Sang-Do, Let's Go to School but I do have other choices. So, poll!
