Mmmm, It Started with a Kiss continues its excellence.

Poor Zhi Shu seems to have turned into a porter :D His chiropractor bills will be huge after carting XQ all over the city (I love how this show totally caters to my thing for tiny girls and big guys). He carries XQ to his house next, and of course his excuse is that his Mom is going to kill him if he leaves her but it's so clearly an excuse (though it might be something he even believes into himself, because it would keep him from examining those weird odd feelings he keeps having).

And then there is a banner to welcome XQ home and his Mom mentions The Kiss and ROFL. No wonder ZS is rebelling a bit. But much as I feel sorry for Ah Jin finding out about the kiss, I love the scene where ZS tells him about it and does the whole 'she really enjoyed it, her face was turned up blah blah blah' comment. OMG, Straight for the jugular. It's so Zhu Shi's attempt to mark his territory (even though he doesn't realize it himself) and he totally is jealous of the fact that Jin and XQ are close so it's getting back at Jin by doing 'see, she is actually mine' thing. He so can't control himself around her. ROFL. Especially since the boy is exaggerating just a tad. When he kissed her, XQ looked flabbergasted and shocked more than anything else. She didn't kiss him back or even close her eyes or anything. But heeeee, not that he'd admit it to Jin. I squeed. As I said, feel bad for Jin, but he really is a male XQ in liking someone who never showed any signs of romantically liking him back (it's worse than XQ actually because there she liked someone who didn't know her thus there is a chance if he gets to know her he will fall. But not so here). And XQ is clueless of course and is thinking 'I am back in his house and the kiss is public, ZS must be so mad, that is why he brought this up with Ah Jin.' Clueless girl. I think if and when ZS tells her he likes her, she won't believe him :P

This is remarkably angst free but I adore it. The funny thing is, when I first started it, I thought Joe Cheng was OK looking but what is the fuss about and now I am totally rabid for him :P Also, and rather unrelated, when I was browsing for ISWAK pics last night on soompi, someone quoted JC saying that Mike He was the best kisser in Taiwan. True, he was talking about doing kissing scenes with Ariel Lin who just finished Love Contract with Mike He and the comparison issues, but oh boy, does it look misleading taken out of context, or what. He's just lucky there isn't a dorama RPF comm :P

In other exciting news, [livejournal.com profile] scottishlass made some gorgeous icons for a variety of doramas and actors: Mars, It Started with a Kiss, Love Contract, Mike He, Ariel Lin, and Silence. They are here and you should check them out.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] je12_vz9 posted recent pics of Vic Zhou and Barbie Hsu together, thus not only definitively answering my earlier question but also cementing her status as the F4 guru on my flist.

I have also compiled a small list of upcoming doramas that are on my 'must watch' list. They are, in no order,
1. Hana Yori Dango 2 (2007): come on, I loved HYD 1. And this has the same cast and plenty of manga left to cover.
2. Exchange For Love (2007): It's with Mike He and Rainie Yang (the OTP in Devil Beside You). I love 'em both and think they make a good on-screen couple (though I prefer him with Ariel Lin).
3. Just One Love (2006): It's with Kame! And it's a love story! And it sounds angsty! And [livejournal.com profile] winterspel fully convinced me of his hotness!
4. Emerald on the Roof (2006): It stars Wallace Huo who is totally yummy. And is a love triangle and sounds delish.
5. Hua Yang Shao Nan Shao Nu (2006): Are you kidding me? This is my most anticipated. It's an adaptation of Hana Kimi, one of my favorite mangas, and Wu Zun (who I loved as Liang in Tokyo Juliet) is in it as the male lead who is one of my favorite manga heroes ever.
6. No idea of the name (2007): It's the one that Vic Zhou is doing next where he plays a chef. Geeee, I wonder why I want to see it.
7. It Started with a Kiss 2 (2007): see my reasons for HYD 2.

Any good upcoming Korean ones?

And speaking of things Korean, teaser poster for Rain's I am a Cyborg, but that's OK movie has come out.

Ok what is "I am a Cyborg, but that's OK " I can't stand it. You have to tell me.

It's supposed to be an off-kilter movie about a young woman who believes she is a Cyborg and the guy who loves her and doesn't care one way or another about that weird belief. It's supposed to be funny and quirky.

For some reason that sounds strangly familiar and actually very cute. I wonder do they have that movie in english or with english subtittles?

It's upcoming, so it's not out yet. Hopefully they will.

Netflix has a really good Asian section.

A small portion of my undying love for Asian films includes the sheer cracktastic nature of some of the movie titles. Examples include: "Kamikaze Girl", "My Wife is a Gangster" (and there's a sequel, too!) and of course, "Art Museum By the Zoo". XD

The thing is that half of these movies are much better than the English titles would lead you to believe, but still, it makes for one interesting tagline. ;)

Do these mivies actually have english translations/subtittles I would love to see some of them. Where do you get them also?

Some of these movies have actually been released in the US with English subtitles--I suggest checking out the foreign film section of the nearest Blockbuster. :) In fact, some of the top-grossing and best Asian films have been adapted into American remakes. The most recent example is the excellent Korean melodrama, Il Mare, which became transformed into the Keanu Reeves/Sandra Bullock vehicle, The Lake House. One of my favorite, favorite, favorite action/suspense dramas of all time, the Hong Kong action flick Infernal Affairs (which I *know* is out on DVD here in the States), is being remade into a Scorcese film starring Matt Damon and Leo DiCaprio, The Departed. I highly recommend the original film, Infernal Affairs--it's about as respected a film franchise as The Godfather, with two sequels following it up that are almost as good as the first.

They all sound interesting, but believe it or not I am more into romances and romantic comedies. I know I am a guy, but its what I like.

That poster is kinda creepy.

Oh, and It Started With A Kiss is so not angst free. So wait for it. :p

Man, I lowe your analysis'. Seriously. You point out stuff I never noticed before and you say it so.. smartly. You sound really intelligent.

Oh! I wanted to ask.. I'm out of doramas to watch.. what should be next? :p I've watched ISWAK, Goong, Full House, and A Love to Kill. What are my next must watches? :p

That depends. Do you want angsty or funny or what? If you are just looking at the ones that are completed I really recommend Mars because it's my favorite dorama EVER. Sang-Doo let's go to school has Rain and romance and funniness and angst and is strongly recommended. Meteor Garden is also addictive. Sassy Girl Chun-hyang is also really good (and lighter).

I like both Devil Beside You and Love Contract, but the former is somewhat draggy and OTT and I love the latter like mad but it has a very odd ending and the bits with non main characters are ffble.

If you don't mind watching the ones that are still running, then Silence (my newest and shiniest), Tokyo Juliet, Smiling Pasta (the latter is fluffy fun).

I have a whole bunch which I am interested in but haven't watched yet so would feel odd reccing :)

P.S.

I really think you'll like all the three currently running ones a lot btw, and Tokyo Juliet subs are almost finished (12 out of 16 eps).

But Mars is by far the best.

If you want comedy, I recommend trick. If you want epic and angst, watch Damo, which I'm watching now, unless you object to historicals(my dorama experience is limited to 5 shows, so I am little help...)

Whoa, whoa, whoa--Mike and Rainie are in another drama together?!

OK, that one's on my watchlist too. The ones I'm looking forward to are:

1. Hana Yori Dango 2 (obviously!)
2. Hana Kimi (I never read the manga, but everyone on the friendslist is raving about it, so I suppose I'll give it a shot)
3. ISWAK 2 (because more Zhi Shu = awesome)
4. That new drama with Kame in it that I will start as soon as I finish "Sapuri", which, ZOMG, is so good. I need to blog about it later.

And apparently, now there's another one with Mike and Rainie, which is awesome. Having avoided "Love Contract" for the longest time, I am immune to the Mike/Ariel pairing and am a big supporter of Mike/Rainie, because the amount of crack in DBY is totally unequaled.

Well, except for "My Boss My Hero" which [livejournal.com profile] hope_fuleigh and I are going to make you watch ^__~.

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
You totally HAVE to watch Love Contract for Mike and Ariel. I think they both have excellent chemistry with all of their costars I've seen, but with each other, it's crazy. (The only dorama chemistry I've seen to rival the psychotic levels of hotness to rival them is Vic and Barbie in Mars. And maybe Rain and whats-her-name in A Love to Kill). The dorama itself is flawed, but it's totally worth watching it for them.

I actually like it better than DBY, warts and all. DBY was too cartoony for me overall.

SQUEE!! You like tall guy/short girl pairings! *jumps and points at Trick like a maniac* Also...Kame...Sapuri and Nobuta wo Produce. Oh, and he's also in Gokusen 2(haven't seen it or Sapuri, but if I don't watch Sapuri, I'll be hurt)

I am definitelt watching Trick and sapuri. Gokusen 2 is supposed to be dreadful, so staying away.

And hey, I decided to watch Nobuta...

From: [identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com
Yeah...I know I need to stay away from Gokusen...but with Kame AND Nakama Yukie, it might be hard.

I am loving "Sapuri" and omg, you're watching "Nobuta"!!!!!!

SQUEE.

I love "Nobuta" so much, it's not even funny. It's one of my favorite, if not absolute favorite, friendship-school dramas. As for "Gokusen 2", I've heard it's pretty much a rehashing of the first series, but with Kame instead of Jun. I've seen the first season but haven't seen the second so if it's good, do let me know.

I am indeed watching Nobuta in the future but keep in mind that my to-watch list is 7 billion miles long already, so by the time I get to it, I'll probaby be 50 :)

guru?! lol

btw, Zaizai's new drama title's Delicious Relationship. it's with Patty Hou, Jay Chou's ex/present gf [not sure which] and again, Megan Lai Ya Yan [the one with him in MG2, Love Storm, Mars and Silence; Hotline for Help pv]. he's gonna be doing a film as well with Li Bing Bing [the girl with Ken Zhu in City of Sky and Vanness Wu in Kung Fu Fighting]. as for Barbie, i think she filmed a movie.

re Wallace, yahoo! time for him to get some lovin'.

I didn't realize the girl in City of Sky and KFF was the same one! *smacks self* Heeeeee.

Poor Megan. She did all these with Vic and never ended up with him once in any of them :P (Btw, is Love Storm subbed? I'd love to get a copy).

I have watched two episodes of "Silence" yesterday and it is fantastic! Honestly - this is the best dorama for me so far. Vic does a fabulous job of acting and I adore the main heroine. I will rant about it in due course. Anyway - Thank YOU!

Date: 2006-09-22 01:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Oh, I am so glad you like Silence. I think of all the ones I've seen this is the one I'd be most likely to show as a 'hook' to someone who hasn't already has an interest in the genre. It's so beautifully filmed and understated in a Victorian way.

And the main heroine totally is adorable. I just want to hug her. As to Vic's character. I think I might be biased because I know people like that (workaholic wise).

Date: 2006-09-22 01:43 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com
The only thing is - I have a VERY BAD feeling that Vic is going to die. I must brace myself somehow. I am looking for some more options to save me on the bad day of his dying - "Love to Kill" being the top of my list. Do you know if it has the good ending? ( I think I remember you watching it)

Date: 2006-09-22 02:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] alexandral.livejournal.com
Sorry - I mean Qi Wei Yi , not Vic. I don't know how "Silence" is going to end, just have a bad feeling

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
OK, I adore Love To Kill (it's in my Top 5 and everything) but it is one of the angstiest things I've ever come across: book, movie or dorama and the ending made me want to curl up and sob sob sob.

If you want fluffier/happier ones, I'd rec It Started with a Kiss (though it starts a bit slow) or Full House (ditto). I am currently mad about ISWAK to a scary degree. It has a klutzy adorable heroine and a sharp-tongued icy super-brain hero...That is what my icon is from. Full House is totally adorable and while I know some people have problems with ISWAK because the heroine is relatively meek in the throes of her crush, there is no such issue with Full House.

Tokyo Juliet is fantastic in a cheesetastic way but it's not done yet. I've only watched a bit of them but Lovely Girl Chun-hyang and My Girl are supposed to be fluffy and fun.

Ooooooooooh! I have written some things in "secret ink" below because I don't want to spoil everybody around. Please highlight the text below to see it:

THEY DIED TOGETHER? Like committed suicide? Oh no!!!! I thought that doramas only have the good endings. I am so wrong. May be I should start with the Full House. I like angst, but the good ending is the essential thing for me. Icy super-brain hero sounds good too. Thank you very much!!!!!!!

And if you don't mind - can I ask what your top 5 doramas are? You don't have to answer!!!

Date: 2006-09-22 06:55 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Yup, you are right. It was more of a 'didn't care if it happened to them' scenario than an active act.

My top 5 (except for Mars which is my number 1, the rest aren't in any order):

1 Mars
2 Silence
3 A Love to Kill
4 Meteor Garden
5 Full House
5 (because I lied and can't limit it to 5) It Started with a Kiss.

P.S.

Date: 2006-09-22 06:58 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Though Forbidden Love is also somewhere on there...

So I guess it makes it Top 7.

Though if we stick only to doramas I've watched the whole way though, it's indeed 5 as I haven't finished Silence or ISWAK.

No, doramas have sad endings too. Korean ones especially.

Heeeeee. I hope so. Some Asian movies are insane, in the best way (there is Tiramisu about a guy who gets possessed by the spirit of a dead girl and so starts acting likeher, and falls in love with her, but it actually works.)
