The Illusionist
Aug. 21st, 2006 12:21 amWe just watched The Illusionist and run, don't walk to see it. It's my favorite HW movie this year, so far.
It's clever and fascinating and drags you in and the acting is amazingly spot on (Edward Norton has the SEXIEST voice btw). The cinematography is gorgeous and what the movie gets spot on is the look for both people (none of which look like 21st century people transposed into period costumes. E.g. Jessica Biel looks like old photographs) and places: the feel of the movie is sepia-toned and Victorianly-right.
Go. Watch it.
Also, I am now going to imagine Norton as the protagonist of Carter Beats the Devil, one of my fave books.

Date: 2006-08-21 05:02 am (UTC)The ads for "Black Dahlia" and...the one about the death of the first actor who played Superman look intriguing too.
I'll second that
Date: 2006-08-21 05:48 am (UTC)So desperate were we to see that film that we killed time until the next show...it was worth it. I haven't been that staisfied with a movie in a long, long time. Score, screenplay, acting most of all--lovely!

Date: 2006-08-21 06:18 am (UTC)CBtD is a novel I read on my honeymoon (and it still managed to keep my interest!) about a fictional turn of the century illusionist, Charles Carter. I adore that book.

Date: 2006-08-21 09:16 am (UTC)Might probably have to check this one out illegally. Edward Norton is just that great and he had a little pause and I missed him then.
