Queen In Hyun's Man, eps 11-12
Jun. 3rd, 2012 06:38 pm
I don't even have much coherence because the perfect perfect eps 11-12 turned me into an incoherent quivering pile of mush.
First off, on a shallow note - height difference and open-mouth kissing OMG! On a bit less shallow note, I love the whole sequence where she thought she lost him forever but then found him. I nearly found myself crying. Or their giddiness together or than insane kiss (that clearly resulted in a night together) and their morning after and phone-booth proposal and rain and just just...everything. They are so functional and sane and fit together so well and I am just utterly terrified now because it's ending next week and I just realized that I have no idea if it will end happily or not and if it's the latter, my heart will get broken. Please please PTB, make them have a happy ending!

Date: 2012-06-04 05:38 am (UTC)But.... on retrospect the squee wasn't quite as forthcoming during ep 12 and I did wonder why until it dawned on me that it was too loveydovey for my taste. It's not the 1st time I find episodes concentrating solely on the OTP beeing mushy a bit of a bore. Guess I'm not much of a romantic after all....
I also think that all the talk/whining on how BD was acting inconsistently and inappropiately for someone from his timeperiod sort of.... annoyed me enough to take something out of the enjoyement of these episodes. Well, as I see it BD isn't really a true Joseon Gent but rather an idealised version of the 'world's best bf' disgused as a Joseon Gent. Besides, QIHM is a fantasy fusion sageuk. I never expected it to be even this close to authenticity. /end rant :)

Date: 2012-06-04 11:54 am (UTC)1. It's been clear from ep 1 that BD isn't your typical Joseon aristocrat - in adjusting so quickly, etc
2. One of these adjustments is the mores - where were the complaints when he was kissing HJ episodes and episodes before eps 11-12? Plus, are they telling me people in 17th c were virgins who never touched a hand ever outside of marriage? If a 17th c person liked a gisaeng or concubine or someone else not upper class, I am sure there was plenty of touching. Sure, if she was a highborn Joseon aristo, but she is clearly a woman from a different society w/ diff mores and he adjusts himself accordingly.
3. Doing all that romantic stuff - ummm, once again, am sure people in 17th century, or even 7th did things when they liked someone. The nature of things might have changed but not the principle. Our clever BD does romantic things people in 21st century do because that's where he is right now and this is the proper way to express himself here.
Ultimately, if you want period faithfulness, I am with you, fusion sageuk is not the way to go :P

Date: 2012-09-23 10:57 am (UTC)compared to Rooftop, the time-adjusting gaffes are kept at a bare minimum..but Heejin more than makes up for them due to her clumsiness..
does Boong-do act totally OOC in this ep? i try to keep in mind he was married before, when watching his player side coming out ^_^

Date: 2012-09-23 11:46 pm (UTC)I don't think he's OOC. He has always had a deep and dry but well-developed sense of humor and to me it goes with playfulness. Plus, you are right, he has been married before and nothing to indicate unhappily so... :)
