Am importing everything from LJ at long last and will try to be better at cross-posting now. We'll see.

Also, is anyone as wildly unenthused about kdrama winter season as I am? I mean, Padam Padam is amaI g (though I am way behind as it requires my full attention) and What's Up is good, but they are halfway through their run. I mean dramas that have started or about to start. I am going to give Moon that embraces the Sun a chance but not for week, until subs appear and kiddie eps are done, but I am not super enthused and the other dramas don't grab me at all.

Still, I now have at least one kdrama to look forward to this year- Joo Won has been announced as the lead in Bridal Mask which seems like City Hunter Meets Capital Scandal and is based on a famous manga. I waaaant!!!!!!

I wouldn't say I'm wildly unenthusiastic but there's nothing that makes me go 'OMG! Waaaannnt!' either. But then, nothing ever really does these days. I'll sample a few and see if anything pops.

That new Joo Won drama on the other hand.....

Anyway, I still have couple of ongoing dramas I'm watching at leisure, according to sub availablilty so it's not like I'm starved for drama atm. I'm half way through 'The Princess' Man' as well.

I like it well enough.... but it did not grab me the way say, TwDR did and when it comes to acting TwDR wins by several miles. I have some issues (nothing major, just a pet peeve), of which I'm probably going to make a post about when I can get my act together. I also have to confess I skipped from ep 3 to ep 10 as the lovedovey stuff just bored me along with all the bearded talking heads. I guess romance in sageuks just doesn't generally do it for me unless it's angsty and full of dooooom, LOL!

But...but...lovey stuff ended before ep 10 I think.

Plus, it's already doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom-ridden before then because he almost gets executed.

I realised that once I'd already gone ahead (flashbacks), heh. I'm still not all that 'into' it for some reason, even the doomed romance doesn't really do much for me. I'm ff'ing an awful lot. In fact I was much more taken with CP3, which I gobbled up in a few days. Just one of those things I guess...

Blasphemer! :)

Eh, everyone has different tastes. Pretty much the entire kdrama watching fandom adored Story of Man, and I got so bored, I finally gave up after 5 eps.

Btw, I know you meant Chosun Police 3, but my mind first jumped to 'Chinese Paladin 3' and I was puzzled because that is pretty much the opposite of your thing :)

Yeah, tastes differ... I've never been able to understand the almost universal squee about MNIKSS for instance and even Coffee Prince wasn't that big a hit with me. Sometimes dramas you think you'll be all hyper about turn out to be those you just can't get into no matter what.

Oh, I loathe loathe MNIKSS. I have no words for it. It almost put me of Kim Sunah for life (luckily I've seen Hyun Bin in Snow Queeen before and loved him).

I am loving Padam Padam!! It is the only drama I am really watching right now. I am just waiting for Love Rain and whatever drama TOP is in! I am going to give Wild Romance a chance but the female leads hair scares me (not that all girls look awful with short hair. Her hair just looks awful to me.). I keep thinking I am watching a gender bender drama.

I plan on watching What's Up eventually and Man of Honor too.

I have heard new news about TOP. I have been reading that he may be starring in s drama called Celebrity which people are saying is based off the manga Skip beat. I can not find anything saying he is not in Absolute Boyfriend anymore though.

I'm looking forward to Moon That Embraces The Sun and Wild Romance, once the subs and a backlog of episodes are available. So...about three or four weeks? It's hard to wait.:-( I'd like to start the Flower Boy Rock Band one as well. From currently airing series, I'm thinking of trying Padam Padam and Fermentation Family, which is apparently from the same producer/writer as The Devil.

But fortunately I've got a bunch of already aired series to watch -- I was off kdramas for a while this fall, so still catching up. Watching The Princess' Man put me on a Park Shi Hoo kick, so I'm now watching the second half of Queen of Reversals, with judicious fastforwarding past the office drama to the romance portion. Although once again I stand amazed at how far kdramas will go to make beautiful actresses look dowdy. The helmet hair! The styleless office wear! Oh, Kim Nam Joo. Please say no to the print cardigans and lacy bow shirts.

Wild Romance just sounds slapsticky and I have low tolerance for it. I need to get to QoR at some point.

QoR has my most favorite romantic trope: guy hopelessly gone on love interest who is oblivious to his feelings. And Park Shi Hoo is so good at playing earnest puppy trying and failing to be cool.

WR does sound slap-sticky, but if it's in the right degree, I think that can be hilarious. Just have to wait and see if this one works for me or not.

Yes. Those are pretty much my sentiments exactly. None of the currently airing kdramas interest me at all. I remember reading about Bridal Mask the other day and wishing it came out sooner since it sounds way more interesting than anything that's on right now. I've been feeling like rewatching some of my old favorites though, so I'll tide myself over with those until then. Maybe I'll try Baker King too, since I've never actually seen Joo Won in anything, but I vaguely remember reading some of your posts about BK and being intrigued by his character and OTP.

Baker King is uneven but wildly addictive. I recommend.

Hey dangermousie! Ran into a cdrama on tv and thought you would like to know about it. It's called "Pretty Maid" 大丫鬟 / Da Ya Huan: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Pretty_Maid

It has Mickey He (4th prince from your fav, Gong) with HAIR! In a love that CAN NOT BEEEEEEEE!!! There is sibling fakecest. Decent, nice people that win and well, also die.

A heroine, Sang Caiqing, that's a smart cookie who doesn't self pity herself and waits for the hero to do the saving, but instead does it herself. She's a very strong character. And her OTP might be the type of ideal you like in really life. He's the nice guy that stands up for what's right.

A small synopsis from yesasia : http://www.yesasia.com/global/pretty-maid-h-dvd-end-china-version/1022091349-0-0-0-en/info.html

"Former maid Qin Yuexiang accidentally kills her mason husband to protect her 9-year-old daughter Sang Caiqing from being married to an old man. Before she is hanged by the town magistrate Xiao Ruzhang, Yuexiang sends Caiqing to her biological father, rich tycoon Chen Yuan (Ken Tong), to seek refuge. But Chen's jealous wife Yuru (Michelle Yim) makes Caiqing a maid at Chens' manor. As she grows up, Caiqing (Ma Yashu) is drawn into a series of romantic complications with Chen's foster son Liunian (He Chengming), daughter Liuyun's (Rain Li) fiancé Fang Shaoling (Ron Ng), and Xiao Ruzhang's son Qingyu (Chen Sicheng). Entangled in a web of conspiracies involving power, money, and desire, Caiqing vows never to succumb to fate as she strives to be the master of her own destiny one day.

Produced by Mainland's top television screenwriter Yu Zheng (Four Women Conflict), who is famous for his dramas set in the turbulent times of early 20th-century China."

While I was watching "Pretty Maid" on ICN Channel, I kept thinking "OMG, dangermousie would LOVE this." It also has really good production values, very pretty. Set in the late Qing to early Minguo era.

Ockoala would like this too, Great pacing, angst isn't dragged on forever in the name of plot, things are resolved fast and new problems arise to keep things from becoming boring. No hair tearing out for the sakes of idiot characters, a little for naivety, but understandable why things get misjudged. The screenwriter is Li Ya Ling, a women and it shows. She did a really good job at making things smart. It reminded me of a greek tragedy mixed in with Shakespearean plot machining (in a good way). I'm most impressed by the writing. Nothing is made dumb, just good people caught in the middle of the times and other people's schemes.

Deus ex machina is used often, so the pace moves quickly and nothing drags on for too long. Unlike dramabean's usual opinion, it's used in a good way. Things gets resolved "quickly."

I'm on 23 out of 35 Episodes, so I don't know how it ends, but I can safely said that you'll most likely like this drama and it's worth a try. At 23 the OTP finally gets together and from the opening music sequence the rest of their time will be them fighting to stay that way. The hero seems to go through a lot of pain to be with Sang Caiqing, figuratively and literally.

Trouble is, the only English subs I can find is on viki : http://www.viki.com/channels/3330-the-pretty-maid/videos.
And I know how much you hate streaming, I don't know how else to search bcuz I mostly watch dramas on TV and not on my Computer, Tv Subs are always provided. It aired back in 2010-Jan-01 (start). So if you look, you might find subs.

I did find it on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL10C4749200A273D0&feature=plcp
But not Subbed. :(

Trouble as it is, I highly recommend this to you, I know how resourceful you are and how perfect this type of drama would be for you, and because of that I thought I would tell you of this recommendation.

And one last thing:

In the 2 years that have passed, this is the last time I will bring this up.

You might remember me as the one that recommended "Goodbye Solo" to you : http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Goodbye_Solo

Pie aka, Chun Jung Myung gets the girl.

"fights" with Kim Nam Gil (Bad Guy) to get the girl.

& it's written by Noh Hee Kyung (Padam Padam) so you know her style.

Maybe knowing this, you might rethink about giving "Goodbye Solo" a try?
