dangermousie: (Young Warriors of the Yang Clan - Four)
[personal profile] dangermousie
I put Alec Su's and Chae Rim's Warriors of Yang Clan aside after two eps, even though I loved it, because I was in cdrama overload at the time and because I couldn't find any subbed eps past ep 25 and this is a 36-ep drama. But the overload is gone and I found eps 26-36 on youtube (to download though keepvid. Though if anyone else knows anywhere else I can get it, please let me know) so on with the show!

And am now, on ep 3, wondering why on earth I ever stopped! This is an OTP designed for Mousie's heart expressly because basically they flirt through battling each other with swords and spears!

Seriously, you cannot tell me this isn't foreplay. Just look at them:

And this is how they look AFTER the fight.

For those who have no idea, btw, Warriors is pretty much a love story between Yang Si Lang, a member of a legendary fighting dynasty and possibly the unluckiest Yang brother ever (and that's quite a competition) and Pan Yu Yan, the rebellious daughter of the super-evil Prime Minister, who has it in for the Yangs. So yes, their families are sworn enemies ON TOP of the fact that he's the famous Fourth Brother who, as per legend, gets captured in battle against evil enemies who killed his family and gets amnesia, forgets who he is, gets a new identity and joins them. Can you say AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANGST!!!! At least this one has a sort-of happy ending, unlike the misery fest that was Young Warriors, from which I am still scarred.

Anyway, enjoy the cuteness, OTP. The angst monster will come for you soon enough. It's funny, because normally I find Alec Su as attractive as a piece of toast, but he's RAWR here, with the long hair and the Yang family name, and the sword/spear/every-other-weapon-known-to-man skills. And Chae Rim usually is blandly OK with me but here I adore her.

Uhhhmmm, Mousie, this one scarred me. It does not have a happy ending. Just an FYI. But don't stop watching, because I loved it. The "happy ending" you might have heard about was the Mainland Chinese airing which required the production to end the drama 3 minutes earlier so as to not show bleakness galore.

Really? I peeked at the end of the version I found subbed and it's just him bidding farewell to ashes of his family after having remembered who he is and, presumably, about to go off after Chae Rim. Which I can live with.

Is that not the 'proper' ending? Eeeeeeeek! Spoil me! I don't really mind happy or unhappy as long as I love the drama and I love this one.

Happy New Year, btw!!!

Oh boy, yeah, that's not the real ending. In the real ending, which aired in Taiwan, he arrives back in Central China and approaches the Great Wall all excited to be home and back to Yu Yan. And then some asshole Sung soldier shoots him full of arrows since he's dressed as a foreigner. He dies on the Great Wall, reaching towards his home and everyone he loves.....

It's depressing as all hell, but poignant and realistic, since I wonder why he thought he could just walk home and be allowed through the borders. It's not like random soldiers would recognize him.

Ohhhhhh :(

*tears out any hair left after Young Warriors and BBJX*

I guess he wasn't thinking clearly, seeing that his brain just got unscrambled. Ooooooh :(

Did they really shoot random foreigners though, if they were by themselves etc? *Note to self - do not timetravel too period China*

Haha, see my amended note. Watched this years ago so forgot the details initially til I just rewatched it, but he was killed being Yang Si Yang, since everyone believed he was a traitor. But I think it's not too farfetched to believe foreigners would be killed if the two countries were at war.

Why are period dramas so damn cheerful?

Also, why did Mainland make them cut it out? The most suicidally depressing dramas are always the cdrama period ones.

Apparently Mainland wants cheerful endings to dramas. Not sure what their criteria is since many more depressing ones air there that aren't cut.

They thought Bu Bu Jing Xin's ending was cheerful? They must have a different definition of that word than I do, seeing that I wanted to eat my own head after that one!

Nah, Yang Warriors aired back in 2005. Now they let all sorts of depressing endings happen.

Oh my bad, it wasn't some asshole soldier, it was on old patriotic soldier who was holding a wanted poster for Si Lang since everyone in the Sung dynasty thought he had become a traitor. So he was recognized and then killed.

Here's the real ending.

Argh!!!!! And now my husband and toddler are asking why I am sniffling.

Btw, since you are my cdrama go-to person, is the new version of Huan Zhu Ge Ge any good?

Noooooo, the new version of HZGG is terrible. It's good for the lulz. They added a new character, a white guy in Qing Dynasty China named Benjamin, and if I were a PC person, I would be greatly greatly offended by his depiction.

William has a brother? :)

Perversely, now I am v.v.v. curious. You know how I love trainwrecks!

My adorable (if dim and annoying) Weeeeeeliiiiiam in Tamra is nothing as bad as that Benji feller in the new HZGG. Also, the two new girls are horrid actors, and don't even have Vicki and Ruby's gorgeous looks to coast by.

Bwahahahaha. It's official, I must watch this, probably when Warriors' angst becomes too much.

Ooooh I've never watched this! But then again I've been setting every drama aside for a rainy day since I'm so busy, including my beloved BBJX and Strange Hero. But I always found Alec Su really attractive after I watched HSDS 2003. He was pretty bad with the Qing hairstyle in the original HZGG though. If you wanted to watch that though, you should just watch the original!

Nah, I've seen clips of the original and I confess I am a slave to huge production values :)
