As per drama beans.

I sincerely hope it is based on the manga I adore and not the jdrama which I hate. Seeing that they want to cast Kim Ha Neul, it's probably the latter though. Add in the fact that kdrama adaptations of manga usually suck (BOF, *shudder*) and there is no way they will be able to deal with "heroine orders a sexbot" thing on MBC (I was cracking up at jb and gf, neither of whom is familiar with the manga, wondering if It could be a sexbot and deciding not).

I think I will just wait for the twdrama.

I'm not familiar with either manga or j-drama but from the little I could gather, it's the manga they're trying to adapt. Reactions on DCgall very, very negative, appalled Kim Ha Neul would even consider it.

The other big news on DC today was the Beethoven Virus PD/writers (the other Hong sisters) re-teaming for The King, which is described as a black comedy/romance about a marriage of convenience btw a North Korean prince and South Korean princess. Apparently the PD's close to Lee Byung-Hyun and desperately wanted him as the lead, but it's impossible with Lee's schedule so they're looking at other big names.

Looks like that's for early spring 2012, and before that is the adaptation of the new romance novel from the Sungkyunkwan Scandal author due Jan 2012 or so, but no word on casting yet. It's not the SKKS sequel, but an entirely new story, set in the Joseon era but purely fictional, of a doomed romance between a king and a shaman.

So there are real plans for adapting 해를 품은 달? Awesome. Last I heard, it was still an unsubstantiated rumour.

They have a crew, as in, there's now a 'staff cafe' at one of the portals, one of the first signs of productions gearing up. But no news on the casting front, not even rumors, which puzzles the DCgall people, if it's indeed being considered as the follow-up project to Me Too, Flower! on MBC.

ETA. Forgot add the writer & PD behind, um, how does it translate, 'The Moon That Embraced The Sun'? Anyhow they've got the Capital Scandal writer and Royal Family PD on board, hence the high expectations on DCgall.

They're definitely cutting it close if it's going to be following Me Too, Flower!, but I suppose stranger things have happened. So many projects have been really last minute this year. That PD/writer combination sounds amazing though. Capital Scandal. ♥

Regarding the story, you referred to it as a doomed romance, so I take it that it'll veer into much more serious/darker territory than Sungkyunkwan Scandal?

Haven't read the book, and this is just bits & pieces I've heard over time (like you said, the project's been rumored forever), but it sounds more tragic and fantasy-like than SKKS. By the time the young king crosses path with the shaman (on a moon-lit night obviously), he's already had his heart broken when the woman he wished would be chosen as his consort (the sister of his tutor) died of illness. And it's only when he falls himself to some illness that the shaman's introduced to the palace and he meets her again, but she can't come forward so he doesn't realize who she is. (Echoes of The Little Mermaid.) Then there's a number of subplots of his bodyguard in love with the same woman, his elder half-brother who fell for the late not-fiancee, his sister pining after his tutor... and they're all apparently doomed, doomed, doomed.

Doomed romance?

But I just got sparks of news that Park Shi Hoo is being considered as the male lead and that Han Ga In is considering for the female lead. That is so not good. I was assuming that it might be about revenge. The shaman was said to be a princess and her family was executed while she escaped and went to live as a shaman. This is like the news about him being casted in "The Princess' Man" all over again. A doomed love.

Ooooh, I'd love it anyway.

I am glad it's the manga but KHN is twice the age of the manga's heroine.

Oh, that NK/SK drama sounds like it has a possibility, but mentioning LBH and then saying he can't do it is just plain mean :)

Yay for the SKKS-not-really thing.

My feelings exactly, and it happened twice this week-- the NK/SK drama, and Kim Eun-Sook(Secret Garden)'s new project. I'm sure he's at the top of the list of every possible project out there, and I know he'd rather do a film than television, but would be nice if he could do a drama every 2-3 years or so.
