As per drama beans.

I sincerely hope it is based on the manga I adore and not the jdrama which I hate. Seeing that they want to cast Kim Ha Neul, it's probably the latter though. Add in the fact that kdrama adaptations of manga usually suck (BOF, *shudder*) and there is no way they will be able to deal with "heroine orders a sexbot" thing on MBC (I was cracking up at jb and gf, neither of whom is familiar with the manga, wondering if It could be a sexbot and deciding not).

I think I will just wait for the twdrama.

I'm not familiar with either manga or j-drama but from the little I could gather, it's the manga they're trying to adapt. Reactions on DCgall very, very negative, appalled Kim Ha Neul would even consider it.

The other big news on DC today was the Beethoven Virus PD/writers (the other Hong sisters) re-teaming for The King, which is described as a black comedy/romance about a marriage of convenience btw a North Korean prince and South Korean princess. Apparently the PD's close to Lee Byung-Hyun and desperately wanted him as the lead, but it's impossible with Lee's schedule so they're looking at other big names.

Looks like that's for early spring 2012, and before that is the adaptation of the new romance novel from the Sungkyunkwan Scandal author due Jan 2012 or so, but no word on casting yet. It's not the SKKS sequel, but an entirely new story, set in the Joseon era but purely fictional, of a doomed romance between a king and a shaman.

So there are real plans for adapting 해를 품은 달? Awesome. Last I heard, it was still an unsubstantiated rumour.

They have a crew, as in, there's now a 'staff cafe' at one of the portals, one of the first signs of productions gearing up. But no news on the casting front, not even rumors, which puzzles the DCgall people, if it's indeed being considered as the follow-up project to Me Too, Flower! on MBC.

ETA. Forgot add the writer & PD behind, um, how does it translate, 'The Moon That Embraced The Sun'? Anyhow they've got the Capital Scandal writer and Royal Family PD on board, hence the high expectations on DCgall.

They're definitely cutting it close if it's going to be following Me Too, Flower!, but I suppose stranger things have happened. So many projects have been really last minute this year. That PD/writer combination sounds amazing though. Capital Scandal. ♥

Regarding the story, you referred to it as a doomed romance, so I take it that it'll veer into much more serious/darker territory than Sungkyunkwan Scandal?

Haven't read the book, and this is just bits & pieces I've heard over time (like you said, the project's been rumored forever), but it sounds more tragic and fantasy-like than SKKS. By the time the young king crosses path with the shaman (on a moon-lit night obviously), he's already had his heart broken when the woman he wished would be chosen as his consort (the sister of his tutor) died of illness. And it's only when he falls himself to some illness that the shaman's introduced to the palace and he meets her again, but she can't come forward so he doesn't realize who she is. (Echoes of The Little Mermaid.) Then there's a number of subplots of his bodyguard in love with the same woman, his elder half-brother who fell for the late not-fiancee, his sister pining after his tutor... and they're all apparently doomed, doomed, doomed.

Doomed romance?

But I just got sparks of news that Park Shi Hoo is being considered as the male lead and that Han Ga In is considering for the female lead. That is so not good. I was assuming that it might be about revenge. The shaman was said to be a princess and her family was executed while she escaped and went to live as a shaman. This is like the news about him being casted in "The Princess' Man" all over again. A doomed love.

I am glad it's the manga but KHN is twice the age of the manga's heroine.

Oh, that NK/SK drama sounds like it has a possibility, but mentioning LBH and then saying he can't do it is just plain mean :)

Yay for the SKKS-not-really thing.

My feelings exactly, and it happened twice this week-- the NK/SK drama, and Kim Eun-Sook(Secret Garden)'s new project. I'm sure he's at the top of the list of every possible project out there, and I know he'd rather do a film than television, but would be nice if he could do a drama every 2-3 years or so.

Kim Ha Neul is beautiful and talented. But, I think she would be a wrong choice for the role. She would be 35 when this drama airs - that's a bit old to be ordering a robot for a boyfriend. It would just make me sad for her. Even a beautiful woman whose mature and successful has to have a robot boyfriend!? I hope they stick more to the manga; they can just age the heroine up to a university student.

Also, I do think TOP would be a good robot, but as I understand he's not very fond of showing skin. . .and could he really emote?

TOp would make me wonder if he plans to sex her or murder her :)

I think a 17yr old ordering a sexbot I can deal with but a 35yr-old should know better.

Loathed the JDrama, it's a shame they're going in that direction as the storyline makes more sense if the lead is a teenage girl. Plus the skevy sexbot angle can be more easily overlooked if it's not a 20 something office worker hard up for a boyfriend but a teenager trying to figure love out.

i haven't read the manga but i hated the jdrama adaptation too, and it made me hate aibu saki who was totally rad in buzzer beat. it'd take a lot to make me care about this. ;\

I loved her in Utahime (and she's lucky to have bagged Nagase in RL, mmm) but yes, if I was capable of disliking her, Zettai Kareshi would have done it :)

it was my first saki drama. thus: loathing, lmao.

i got about halfway through utahime and dropped it, it just didn't work for me and everyone else raves about it so much what'm i missing. :( i might have to give it another go; maybe i just wasn't in the mood.

I love Kim Ha Neul, but nothing could make me watch it if it's anything like the jdrama AND the rumours turn out to be true about T.O.P being casted as Night. I can't believe I'm saying this, but even Kim Hyun Joong would fit the role of Night better than T.O.P... unless they're planning a dark twist where Night is an assassin sent to kill Riiko.

Yes.

I know, I'll keep wondering when he'll break her neck.

Why not Jung So Min and Jung Il Woo? Age-appropriate. Or if JIW is too busy with that prettyboy cable thing, LMH.

Oh man, the shades of IRIS.

LMH would be AWESOME as the hot sexbot, LOL. I reckon Ha Suk Jin would be awesome too, but perhaps not enough name recognition there... Hell, if they're aiming to rope in younger fangirls/bank on idol fame, wouldn't a better choice be Jaejoong? Can you imagine a more perfect face for your perfect sexbot?

Well if you think about it. Kdrama has only adapted a few popular Japanese manga. That would be BOF, Playful Kiss, and City Hunter...

There is actually a lot more japanese works not only manga but novels, doramas and movies remade/adapted into korean dramas.

They were all awful though, except CH which was great (but as adaptation was barely inspired by the source).

I have no problem when they are using the same tactics as in the japanese, making the lead character older (a high school girl as in the manga could be quite hard for some viewers to take) but Kim Ha Neul as much as I adore her I think they should choose a younger actress like Park Bo Young. And TOP bad choice unless they want a killerbot.

I really liked the Jdrama lol but I never read the manga anyway hahah. XD

I think for this I'd watch if it was Moon Geun Young/Jang Geun Suk lolol. Or maybe even her and Kim Jae Wook? He did have that dorky-albeit-stoic-sometimes-robotic-ness to him.
