DB posted that MBC is considering extending Miss Ripley, from 16 eps to 20, mainly to give its upcoming sageuk Gyebaek (which I am pre-obsessed about) more time.

Normally I'd be pretty against it (rare is the extention which doesn't make the quality go down - Hong Gil Dong, Queen of Reversals and...and...and???) but I think MR may be one of those rare ones. I always thought 16 eps was too short to develop everything properly, and 20 sounds about right. Am I crazy?

just a bit...
one of the stories that needed 20 episodes from the start was Midas... they received an extention but for nothing... why? the flow of the story was chopped from the beginning ... I couldn't connect with a char at least ...and it had in it pretty good actors who done their job quite well... but the directing and the script weren't compelling enough and they didn't have any idea what a cliffhanger is ( is it me or the cliffhanger story is the same on Miss Ripley?)

Midas needed from the start 22 episodes not extentions ... if they would have time to flesh the chars properly... in first 2 weeks then we would have a strong story to tell ..instead they gave me tons of chars with very good synopsis but failed at delivery ... ( frankly each char was interesting but not compelling enough and nor believable

I guess my rule of skipping terminal illness dramas paid off in this case.

frankly they didn't knew how to get points and ratings from this sub-plot
drama was just all over the place without caring too much about chars - they thought it is good plot wise but in reality nobody cared
in the end the terminal illness was like a char got a flew ... and died from whatever reason ...

The only thing about extending a drama is that sometimes the writer ends up stretching the storylines and the characters end up acting out of character in order to make the new storylines work. With a drama like Miss. Ripley, it could go either way.

Yeah, true.

I really really hope Miss Ripley is extended.

I agree 16 episodes is too short to develop everything properly. Especially with a drama as complex as Miss Ripley, there is still so much territory they could cover in terms of storyline and characterization. I'm not sure if this screenwriter could wrap up everything neatly within two weeks....

Exactly, so much to do there.

Yeah, I agree about the extension. When I realized that there were only 2 weeks left I was a bit shocked - there is still so much angst to be had between Yoo-huyn and Miri!

I know - one of few times I thought drama was too short as planned.

I'm somewhere in the middle. I think I'd love another four episodes if I knew the writers were comfortable with the stretch. There's really nothing worse than a drama that's outstayed it's welcome because someone decided 24 episodes was better than 20 and there's nothing left for the drama to say.

At the same time, as someone who just finished ep. 11 and feel like there's so much more that needs to be done in terms of the relationship between YH and Miri - I want more from these two as they are naturally, without all the facades, so that the emotional impact is even greater - another few eps would be welcome. I like it, but, I need a little bit more if this drama is going to resonate with me.

Eighteen would have been the perfect number, I think.

I think 20 eps is about right - there is enough emotional filler there. I want more more more YS and MR.
