Despite my lack of interest at the end of ep 1, I did try ep 2 and, to my shock, found I liked it much better, and not just because they cut down t&a (seriously, I don't get why medieval = doggie style, but I am sure HBO had a crack team of researchers on it).

Basically, the exposition intro babble is over, the story flows much better, and I am actually beginning to see some of these characters as people. The problem of there being too many concurrent storylines, thus spreading the narrative too thin as no one character gets sufficient screen-time to truly stand out, still remains (exascerbated by the fact that I just never like ensemble pieces, I prefer narratives with a very small group of protagonists, Deathstalker notwithstanding), but at least I am interested in the overarching story.

We'll see how it goes.

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns, sorry, I know you adore Jaime, but I don't find him particularly interesting. Good-looking, yes. Interesting, not really. He's frighteningly self-absorbed about himself and Cersei, but that's about his most stand-out feature.

I like the later episodes a lot better and you see more bits and pieces of the characters, especially as we learn more about the backstory of the rebellion and such.

Hopefully it will gell with me more.

I find Martin's treatment of women and propensity for othering cultures annoying, and will stop the series once they show the finale. It's too bad, because his plotting and firm believe in the grayscale is something most fantasy writers don't have...

And, yeah, Jaime doesn't get much better this season. D:

I am not the ultimate fantasy fangirl, admittedly, but do not understand GRRM's cult. If they really wanted to adapt something intelligent and mind-bending, how about Simmons' Endymion series. Now that really made me think, and didn't piss off my inner feminist, either.

That made me giggle. :)

They stop featuring all the characters in every episode soon-ish, episode 5, and it was the first really good episode for me, because the scenes were much longer. (Warning: episode 3 has really short choppy scenes again because they try to fit so much in there, but I think that episode the pace never gets that bad again.)

Thanks for the heads-up!

Ours is the love that dares not speak its name ... (Oh, except I talk about Jaime constantly.) I should perhaps clarify that it's not Early Book Jaime that I love (or ... I didn't fall in love with him until I read from HIS POV and until a lot of things about him were kind of different. But now I can't UNKNOW what I know about him later so I find him more sympathetic even in the earlier novels where he's ... not. Does that even make sense? I dunno!) I also think that although the actor is excellent in the role, I'm not so happy about the extra scenes they gave him anyway.

That makes sense - I always bring future knowledge back with me when I reread various series.

Ah, you're going ahead with it then :o)

I kept wondering if we got all the doggie-style stuff because it's easier to film for the actors without showing too much. We could rename the position "Westeros style". lol. They toned down much of the sex (although there's a very long borderline porn scene in episode 7) and there are quite a few episodes with barely a tit in sight.

There's only one episode left and I'm still as addicted as ever. It's a very well-done and beautifully filmed series. My only regret is that my favorite ship (Sansa x Sandor, yes, I know it's creepy) was inexistant. Maybe in season 2?

I don't know, HBO likes showing a lot :P

While we were watching ep 1, I commented to a friend of mine who I was watching it with (and who watches a lot of HBO) that the show was really obsessed with doggie style sex. She replied "no, that's just HBO."

I can't help but think that, when it's all the same position, "kinky" sex gets rather dull and repetitive before too long...

It's not kinky, it's vanilla is that's the only thing they do. *rolls eyes*

I really, really wanted to like Game of Thrones, but I think it was too rape-y and violent for me. I think I'd have a different opinion, though if I'd read the books?

Nah, I've heard it's kinda the same in the books.
