I am very behind on Can You Hear My Heart (am in the middle ep 15 and 20 eps have aired) but it's not for lack of love - the thing is, I want to give it proper attention and not only not fast-forward but rewatch certain scenes, and also be properly awake for it (contrast with e.g. Lie to Me where I skip about half the ep each time).

I have actually been rewatching bits from earlier eps - I am such and idiot but it took me until the rewatch to realize that Woori figured out Dong Joo's handicap at the end of 12.

Anyway, short version: love it but way behind. Still, I couldn't resist taking a peek at this scene posted by [livejournal.com profile] att123 from ep 20.

Are you melting yet?

What gets me more than that gorgeous kiss is how functional they are together, despite their screwed-up pasts and his handicap (and how do I love that she's not letting him know she knows about his deafness - she realizes he wants to keep it a secret and just acts in a matter-of-fact way to help their interactions, like always turning her head towards him when she speaks, but she doesn't let him know she knows. Somehow that really gets me).

cutest kiss ever! they definitely have my vote for cutest couple of 2011 so far ^^
Side-note: I love how dependent Dong Joo is on Woo Ri

I love how he's dependent on her but it's not demeaning or unhealthy.

Eeee, I'm avoiding the vid but so excited to catch up!

and how do I love that she's not letting him know she knows about his deafness - she realizes he wants to keep it a secret and just acts in a matter-of-fact way

I know what you mean, because while on the one hand I want all the secrets out, there's still something just very sweet and caring about it. Even the first scene where she finds out about his deafness and is calling his name again and again - and he doesn't turn - it was somehow both so sad and touching.

Yes - I love that scene. I also love that there wasn't a big overblown fanfare discovery moment.

Awwwwww! I couldn't resist and watched the vid. <333 it was so sweet that I had to pause halfway to catch my breath!

How sweet is it that she was the one kissing him first? =P

I agree with you. I love how she is protecting his secret about his handicap. It's like she doesn't want him to think that he is inferior in her eyes.

I love that she took initiative, especially since he thought she'd be angry. Oh, they are so perfect. I love how she respects whichever way he wants to deal with his deafness because that deafness doesn't define who he is in any way, in her eyes.

I love them! I get this feeling when I watch their scenes that they're both so in sync with each other. They don't need words really.

Your so right about CYHMH. There are so many scenes that you have to pay attention to and can be interperted different ways. Every episode is good and I haven't been disappointed yet.

It's such a layered drama. It's my sleeper favorite of the year.

I love rewatching scenes from this drama too - in fact the more I rewatch the more I get affected and the more I feel like crying, hehehe

This is my favorite drama currently airing, so I completely agree... I just melted when I watched that kiss. :)

Also, funny, but I didn't realize she caught on to his deafness until the next episode either, lol. I've had to do a lot of re-watching with this drama, mainly because my Dong Joo/Woori radar is so high, that actual plot points tend to fly right by me since I'm too busy giggling/sighing over how adorable they are together. ;)

Interestingly enough, it was during one my own re-watches that something else caught my eye: After episode 13, these random scenes kept popping up that confused me. On the surface, they made perfect sense (because really, any scene with them both in it, tends to shine) but once I started approaching those scenes from a specific angle... suddenly, things began to CLICK.

Basically: I'm convinced Dong Joo realizes Woori knows he's deaf, and that it's just another game to him (like pretending he couldn't remember his past and teasing her about it).

If you watch his expression in Episode 13 when he's complaining about the milk-delivery times, Woori keeps going out of her way to speak in front of him, with exaggerated enunciation - and after the second time, he gives her this look right before Young Gyu interrupts them - like he's out of sorts and surprised. The moment is highly charged, and I think it's more than just a shared moment of attraction. In reality, *that's* the moment he realized his cover has somehow been blown. And that's why the playful banter suddenly ends and he heads inside rather than wait to greet Young Gyu.

The entire zoo-scene in Episode 14 further reinforces this theory. First, in the car, he acknowledges her concerns about communicating while he drives - he adjusts the mirror so he can read her lips and assures her that he can see - but Woori's thick and doesn't understand; hence, the kissing joke and the Beethoven jibe. Then, he sings along with the song on the CD, apparently unconcerned that he'll sing out of tune (If he was still perpetrating the lie, then why take such a bold risk? It's odd - especially since he's so self-conscious about his voice). And then later, when they're hiding in the bushes, he uses a transparent lie to get her to hold the flashlight - too heavy, really, lol? - and asks her outright about his voice... if it still sounds like a baby.

In Episode 16 there are a few more examples. However, I think the most telling of all is a particular scene in Episode 17, when Dong Joo is driving. Since Woori asked to see him, he tries to get her to talk to him, but she refuses, saying it's too dangerous... so he pulls the car over, and assures her it's safe to talk now. (If they weren't arguing or upset, why would talking while driving be dangerous? Unless they're both openly acknowledging his need to read her lips...)

It seems to me like they're playing a game of I-know-he/she-knows-but-I'm-going-to-pretend-otherwise... so both keep alluding to the fact that he's deaf, without actually coming out and saying it. It's the same type of thing he does with his amnesia-lie... teasing and baiting her, even though he knows the truth. And since their connection runs so deep, saying it out loud becomes unnecessary; they can speak with their eyes as well as their hearts.

So it's not surprising that so many people don't see it - even after Episode 20 aired, most fans are convinced he still doesn't know.

And yes, the scenes work well enough on their own (they don't need the hidden connotation of their shared secret to make sense). But when you put all the different scenes together - add up all the unspoken moments, glances, looks... suddenly, it's like seeing a puzzle come together that reveals a completely new picture you didn't even know existed.

And for me, *that's* even more romantic than Woori knowing, but keeping it a secret. ^_^

So seriously, when you're re-watching those episodes (particularly the scenes following Episode 13) try approaching them from that view-point, and maybe you'll see it just as clearly as I do. (Or maybe I'll be proven wrong in the end, and am just reading WAY too much into it, lol.) Either way, this show continues to be awesome with every new episode. I don't blame you for wanting to take your time.

I didn't think about it before but now that you mention it, it all clicks into place. Or take scene in ep 20, when he asks her about Maru when they are cuddling - she is turned away from his face because she's in his arms but he is not worried he won't hear her because she nods. Hmmm.

Yup! There are little moments like that in every episode. On the surface it makes sense, but viewed from that angle, and you're like, "wait a minute..."

I think at the end of Episode 16 you'll definitely see it too... there are several key scenes they share that seem to suggest they know - even though they don't say it in words.
