I sort of assumed that if you were a denizen of a harem, the only company you got was (a) other ladies (b) eunuchs (c) emperor, who's probably old, fat and/or full of STDs.

I did not realize you get your own poseable Feng Shao Feng if you signed up. Hmmmmmm - time to consider a career change, self?

Anyway, the above is related to an upcoming period cdrama called (surprise, surprise!) The Royal Harem and it reunites Ady An and Feng Shao Feng yet again, this time as yet another star-crossed pair. She's one of the new concubines imported into the palace in order to help the emperor to produce an heir. He's...well, not the emperor. You can see how well this is going to end, I am sure.

Full disclaimer - I have no idea of the ending, but come on, who are we kidding? It's a period drama and she's the emperor's concubine. And in any event, Ady/FSF seem to specialize in shippy misery x infinity. Though when I was joking that they should start lopping limbs off for their next drama as it's about the only angsty thing that hasn't happened to them on-screen, I was kidding. But seeing they stuck them in the Ming Dynasty, apparently not.

Ady An is inhumanly gorgeous. I can totally buy that a man would be willing to risk getting his head lopped off for her sake.

Not that FSF is particularly hard to look at (here he is with the other male lead, I believe?)

He even manages to pull off (barely) the horrible hat.

Shippiness:

I approve.

Prettiness:

Yeah, like I said.

Can't wait!!!

I love how you end on a positive note, Mousie. Speaking of which, even as a veteran of historical hairdoes, that double-bun thingy makes Ady An look like she has cat ears.

Going by the headgear, I'm gonna say this is the Ming dynasty, which, okay, was not a happy one for palace tiemz. Then again, when is anything ever happy in melodramas?

I am fairly predictable :P But I don't think she, at least, being offed in that scene - looks more like a beating. Which by cdrama angst standards is nothing, apparently.

This is supposed to be set in the Ming Dynasty, yes.

I kinda like the bunny ears myself :P

I don't know how people survived with all those beatings AND subpar nutrition.

Ady An is gaining a lot of popularity, so no doubt you'll have many more dramas at which to glee at. :D

Yay! Except for Barbie, who's married and off the market (and mainly moved on to movies anyway), she's my favorite Taiwanese actress (though she seems to mainly do Mainland stuff nowadays). She's one of the very few actors I'll watch in pretty much anything.

I don't know how people survived with all those beatings AND subpar nutrition.

I am pretty sure in rl they didn't. In SoaB, I boggle how assassin, general, and assorted other characters stab themselves to make a point and run around as good as new. Clearly ancient world has never had sepsis :P (Just like the scene where Ruby stabs her aunt 3 inches below waist because there are few blood vessels there so she wn't die and I kept thinking - she got stabbed in the abdomen with a big sword. In the era before surgery or antibiotics. Sorry, she's dead). But all the period dramas do this :)

I think Barbie was rather trapped recently, with her popularity and all those expectations. Well, anyway, fresh blood! (This is not in any way meant to be creepy.)

Re: abdomen wounds - Yeah! I'm a biochem/life sciences major! It's still hard to keep people alive with ruptured peritoneum/intestines today, if you don't have adequate equipment and care, so, I really don't know how they did it. I mean, muscles only help cushion the force to a finite extent, etc...

I hate her aunt so much.

Plus, by actress standards, being 34 or so, she's getting on in years (ugh, this made me ill to type that. ugh).

Yeah. and after the wound, she spent hours in a cold cold grave with dirt on top. I am sorry, unless she's an alien from Planet Zorg, she shouldn't be surviving this.

She's a cockroach, it's the only explanation.

That would certainly fit the personality.

Man, I need to stop playing video games and start watching more dramas. Which cdramas have the most epic shippiness? Right now, I'm leaning towards this (whenever it comes out) and Jade Palace Lock Heart. I don't mind rocks fall/everyone dies and long as there's tons of droolworthy scenes before that.

JPLH is basically period Hanadan so yes, epic shippiness. And general awesomeness.

Four Women Conflict is super-epically shippy but set in 1900 or so - no idea if it's outside time period you want. It's also very makjang.

Return of Condor Heroes is epic shippiness with swords. It's the drama that got me hooked on cdramas.

Man, Ady is so pretty.

I already bought Summer's Desire because of you (and the cast... well, I heard about it through you and the cast made me buy it, even though it seems like it'll be sad...) Haven't started watching it, though.

Ady is ridiculously gorgeous.

SD is an entertaining drama. It's a bit OTT in places but I enjoyed it. Probably would have enjoyed it more if HXM and Peter Ho were solving their romantic rivalry through swordfights, but what can you do?

Heh, I don't know - after watching HXM pulling out a gun every 10 minutes in Shanghai Bund looking insanely HOT, I'll take either. At least he (seems to? I flipped through the picture book I bought with the DVDs) wears a suit. *drools*

I am saving Shanghai Bund for a rainy day, which is so pathetic I cannot even explain. It's sort of a "oooh, too lovely-looking for me to start" - I am a bizarre soty of a drama hoarder :)

HXM looks fiiiiine in SD.

I think FSF is supposed to be some scholar here? Although, have these people not seen him all angry in the scenes where he kills the Empress's niece in Schemes of a Beauty!? Strangely though, he's not really rocking the look he's been given in this!

As for ady an, gorgeous, but really someone just needs to sort out the hair! she looks like a wannabe-rabbit with those two cones on her head!

Yup, scholar or musician or something. ut I am going to be expecting him to go on a rampage with a sword nontheless (and will be disappointed I am sure :P). I guess I;ll have to get myy FSF-with-a-sword fill from Tiger Amulet.

I think it's the hat. Nobody can pull of that hat. He looks fine with similar hair in Tiger Amulet vid or Schemes of Beauty.

Gorgeous! But what's with the hairdo? O.O I've never seen something like this. lol.

You know, I actually think FSF looks better with the Qing queue than with that Ming style. Something about the combination of those pretty-boy features of his and long hair makes him look about 10 years older.

And omg who's the hairstylist for the women in this series? The loops are one thing, but the bunny ears...

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
h, thank God, I am not the only one who prefers him in the Qing style. I was wondering if it was my love for Eight that was making me insane.

Re: bunny ears. But that way they can ask Emperor if he wants them to be his playboy bunnies :P
