You know how I was obsessing about Rock Rock Rock over the weekend and was binging on Dream High today?

Imagine my shock that the song DH uses for its song-off meet between two of its characters is the song that was featured so prominently in RRR.

I got to say I prefer the original (i.e. the Buhwal/LSC version - or at least as close to it as I can get since I have no access to their 1987 album) - I am always a fan of raspy voices and rock, plus LSC's voice is all sorts of insane. And the emotion is much more there. But I was shocked by (a) how much I liked DH's version and (b) how well Kim Su Hyun can sing as he is not a singer at all - I believe he got a bit of vocal training for the role but that is it. Of course, this further solidified the status of this song as a complete earworm that just won't leave my head. So I decided to share the earworm in the hopes of curing it thusly :)

Yep. Nothing beats the original. My 4 year old daughter loves the song as well and does this emo swaying whenever I play it. Dream High sounds like Korean Fame, there is singing, dancing, high school, very pretty boys. Going to download it now.

I love that song as if there is no tomorrow. As I commented downthread, if someone wrote something like that for me, I might eve forgive a couple of drug binges (but only a couple :P)

I don't think that is a coincidence ... Kim Tae Won is one of KBS's stars... he is in the variety show Happy Sunday - Qualifying Men segment- I must confess that I was curious and even watched them a few times (once it seemed like he talked about his wife like she was God on Earth... but after RRR I should rewatch the ep... to see if I heard/read right)-surprisingly their show had even better ratings than the drama after a quick search I found even a 23% sometimes in July 2009

I saw tihanasan's link a few months ago...then ..and now I was more impressed by the female singer...who I thought at that time she is a professional because she has - soul... and made me listen more carefully that I listened the guys(btw in Dream High ep 5 one task is to convey soul in ones singing)

is it me or in the last month I saw more "hints" to other works, persons or dramas than I ever saw in klala land until now- see SG or Marry Me Mary or My Princess

The DH version of the song looks like a pop cover of a rock song-a very nice one I loved it and replay it...because Wooyoung-2PM is a pop singer... and KSH's training at JYP seemed to be made mainly for pop(while Suzy-Hye Mi has a wider range when it comes about singing-but dunno if she could do an American rock cover too easily)

LOL - so is NMW too old or too young? 24-25 is fine especially since he doesn't look young for his age. Anyone under 23 is too young for me though. I really want to see NMW in Midas but the terminal illness thing is not making me happy. I avoid those dramas with almost no exceptions.

Yup, the DH cover was definitely pop. That may be why I prefer the original - I generally prefer rock over pop. No offense to DH kids - they sing well and are talented, but it's less my cup of tea.

I really like her voice too. I wonder if RRR is accurate and that is actually his wife singing. And speaking of - it seemed like he talked about his wife like she was God on Earth - well, he should think that seeing what the woman put up with without ditching him :P I mean, if someone wrote such an amazing song for me, I'd forgive a couple of drug binges and a few weeks in jail but that still leaves about a gazillion of other binges/jail time to deal with :)

don't worry NMW had his share as trainwreck too.(only kguy that beats his depressions is Yoo Ah In)-but I didn't heard of drugs from him(maybe because a few kguys got to jail... or just because is a NO NO )

NMW isn't suicidal... he gets high as a kite when his fans praise him... or even when he feel his work is well done (don't we all?), but he has his issues ... and with SME isn't easy to put up with( before MGIAG he went to Core Content Media- but the JYJ guys(Lee Sun Joon ring a bell?) had a whole scandal with SME in first weeks of promotions-even though TVXQ-all 5 members try to stay polite-SME doesn't-aka they used a fan and idol war against JYJ and their lawsuit isn't going to end too soon)


this is why in America tabloids sell... because the life of an entertainer beats the movie every time... and this is why we like so much Dream High-even they don't bring smth new-they have things that could happen in RL except one the teacher's house given to gangsters for nothing-that ws too easy(btw I like the gangster to bits.... I ship him with lunatic sister and I love Machiavelli teacher-she is gorgeous)

Dream High is messing with my brain. I don't know who I ship anymore! Each episode gives me a different ship. In ep 5 when Hyemi sang the song I totally shipped her and Jin Gook. This is killing me!!!

KTW seems to have a talent in finding superb vocalist. Every single one has been very good in their own way.

I like the DH version of the song too though the original is the best, obviously. It's quite hard to ruin a good song if they keep to the score even if the rendition and feeling is different.

DM! Hello. Hagrid here. Hope you still remember me. Anyway I'm still silently lurking and keeping up with your blog. I've been watching the stuff you rave about. I'm watching Gloria but for some reason I'm stuck at EP 38. I dunno I guess maybe I'm that afraid to step into the territory of the impending doom but mostly because law school is kicking my ass and I can only manage to religiously follow one kdrama at a time.

I tried to watch Secret Garden but unfortunately I wasn't engaged with it. Sometimes it felt off, sometimes it annoyed me and most of the time it put me to sleep. Maybe I'm too sleep deprived but still. haha!

Anyway, unexpectedly I am super hooked with Dream High. I never saw this coming. With the exception of KSH and EKJ, the list of the cast makes me wanna hurl. haha I dunno I'm still a cynic when it comes to idol turned actors. (Well I still can't bring myself to like Taecyeon for some reason though) But yeah. I'm hooked. LOL This kind of shallow and fluffy High school drama treat is probably what I need to escape my own academics. So onto my main point here. I just wanna spread some Dream High love and share this to you. I found a web community who is subbing the episodes. I think they start off with computer generated subs and they help each other out in editing the grammar and in making sense in the translations. They come up with super quick subs. They release it the day after the episode airs. The quality is not WITH S2 level but I think it's pretty good considering the quick releases.
