Behind a cut, in case anyone is a complete spoiler-phobe. IMO it doesn't give anything away. OMG. It's just for me. It's Anakin as Vader. Before The Helmet. And he is crying. Thank you George!

I know...surely it's wrong to want to comfort a Sith? Argh...

to hug him, jump him or yell at him

How about yell at him, then hug him, then jump him :D

I think a remorseful Sith is worth comforting. Anakin seems like he was manipulated and tricked into his own downfall. A great deal of it had to do with him being pig headed and cocky and the rest has to do with him just not being as devious minded as Palpatine was.

He just looks like he needs someone's shoulder to cry on in that picture.

True. *sniff* Anakin does strike me as someone who is so easy to read. He himself is very forthright and open (even as Vader) and I don't think he realized that there are some other there (i.e. Palpatine) who are that devious.

Anakin is extremely earnest and very open about his feelings. He wouldn't express himself as impulsively or as emotionally as he does if he weren't. Obi Wan was the more calculating and controlled of the two.

I think that Anakin had a tendency to do the exact opposite of what Obi Wan wanted simply to be spiteful since they were both extremely strong willed men.

True. They are about the worst student/teacher pairing I can think of. I think if they didn't follow the "Kill Liam" principle, and Qui-Gon could have trained him, Palpatine would never have gotten the chance to step in.

Guuuuuuh. Icon....I know I've seen it before, but Guuuuuuuh.

Qui Gon would have been much more ideal as a master for Anakin simply because he didn't take himself so seriously and had a way of manipulating his student into doing what he wanted them to do without the student knowing. Obi Wan is much more "my way or the highway" and Anakin seems to resent that treatment. Obi Wan would have been great with a more pliable student, but with someone as filled with his own self importance as Anakin is, it didn't work too well. Part of it has to do with how young Obi Wan was when he became a master and how old Anakin was when he became a student. It was just an accident waiting to happen.

Qui Gon would have kicked Palpatine's butt.

I think "he's got pecs!" every time I see my icon.

I think "he's got pecs!" every time I see my icon.

That's a bit more coherent than what I think.

I do agree with your write-up. And of course, Qui Gon was really much more openly warm and affectionate which is exactly what Anakin (who was not brought up in the Temple but with a very loving mother) needs. There is no doubt for the viewer that Obi Wan loves and cares for Anakin, but since he is very undemonstrative and "by the book" Anakin can't tell that.

I think Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship even started out wrong since Obi-Wan seemed to very much resent what he took to be Anakin's stealing his master's affections. Obi-Wan couldn't have been more than his early twenties at that point and obviously resented his father figure suddenly seeming to abandon him for a little boy.

Obi-Wan obviously cares a great deal for Anakin, he just doesn't know what to do with him.

Yup, yup, yup *nods head*

And of course it's perfectly understandable reaction on Obi Wan's part.

That's why the story is so interesting: everyone's reactions are perfectly natural and understandable but combined they lead to the fall of the Republic, and Darth Vader.
