Movies I am looking forward to (non Bollywood). This is Dangermousie’s Top 20, and not in any order.

1 King Kong: Peter Jackson +Giant Monkey+Adrian Brody not suffering excruciatingly for the whole running time for once=Dangermousie’s popcorn dream come true.

2 War of the Worlds: Tom Cruise (who must keep a portrait in the attic) and Spielberg destroy evil aliens with the help of Eowyn. I am so there.

3 Memoirs of a Geisha: Neat Cast and a Period movie about Japan. Plus, Zhang Ziyi, Gong Li and Ken Watanabe would make me see the movie anyhow. However, directed by the guy who did Chicago.

4 Spielberg’s Munich project: A movie about the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics, this sounds a lot more like Saving Private Ryan than E.T. Bring it on!

5 Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith: in case you couldn’t tell from the last few entries :) It’s gonna have huge CGI, a fall from grace of the main character, lots of sword fights and angst. The rat tail is gone, Anakin is hot, and the trailer was good even with dialogue included. And don’t forget the outfits.

6 White Countess: It’s a movie with Ralph Fiennes not playing a psycho. That is all I need to know. Seriously, it’s a love story about a blind aristocrat (Fiennes) and an adventuress (Natasha Richardson).

7 Tristan and Isolde: With that topic, I’d see it even if it was made for TV. When it stars the attractive James Franco (Harry Osborn from Spidey) and from the pics I’ve seen has a really great look, than I am off to the theater as soon as it gets here.

8 Beowulf and Grendel: Norse sagas as a movie? Yes, please. The fact that is has Gerard Butler as Beowulf is just a cherry on top.

9 Batman Begins: Comic movies can be fun. Comic movies with angsty British hotties better be.

10 Fantastic Four: Oh, this is likely to be silly cheese, but what’s the harm in that. It’s likely to have fun effects and Hornblower in spandex.

11 Sin City: it looks visually amazing, has Clive Owen, and Frodo playing a mute cannibal serial killer. Unless it really is too violent to stomach, I must see.

12 Kingdom of Heaven: Movie about the Crusades starring Orlando Bloom, Liam Neeson and Edward Norton. Was Ridley Scott reading my mind?

13 Cinderella Man: Russell Crowe in a story of a Depression-era boxer. By the same people who did a Beautiful Mind. Mmmmm, yes please.

14 Elizabethtown: Orlando Bloom not in tights. Shocking. But cool. Romantic comedy by Cameron Crowe would be my cup of tea regardless.

15 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, brats and payback time.

16 Everything is Illuminated: Elijah Wood on a trip in Eastern Europe, searching for his family’s past. Come on, it’s Frodo!

17 Hooligans: Frodo as a Football hooligan? Yup. Also yummy Charlie Hunnam from Nicholas Nickleby. Both are too pretty to be Hooligans, but in this case I am OK about dispensing with realism.

18 The Island: Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johanssen in a Distopia (my favorite sub-genre)

19 New World: OK, it does have Colin (ugh) Farrell. And it is made by Terence (snore) Malick. However, the concept (Jamestown, 1607 or so) is intriguing and the visuals and cinematography look lush beyond belief.

20 Zorro sequel: Sounds like cheesy cheesy cheesy fun. With swords. Did I mention cheesy?

And Dangermousie’s movie that you’d think she is looking forward to, but you are wrong:
Goblet of Fire: Each of the Potter movies has been worse than the last. The awful Prisoner of Azkaban finally taught me my lesson and I am staying away.

Have you read "Perfume"? They're making that a movie, too! Don't know if it's your cup of tea, considering that it concerns a serial killer, but it's a very very good book.

Tristan and Isolde
Beowulf and Grendel
Kingdom of Heaven

Ok, did a new crop of screenwriters just graduate high school? Or did Hollywood delare 2005 the official "old stuff is cool" year?

Isn't it about a poisoner? Hmmmmm...

ROFL. I think they should have "old stuff is cool" every year. For every 3 movies, you should be forced to make a medieval or scifi or ancient epic. Heck, just close up shop and make only epics!
